Title: 2000AD Podcast #19
Post by: bluemeanie on 11 February, 2010, 08:49:26 AM
(http://libsyn.com/images/geeksyndicate/2000adbanner19.jpg)

For the first time in AGES we are up to date, so as well as looking at 1669 & 70 the guys also delve back to April 1977 to get stuck into Prog 10. They also find time to talk about PJ Holdens non 2000AD work on Battlefields, offend as many people as possible and question Richards heterosexuality ...a lot.

As always, spoilers throughout and non kiddie friendly language.

And as promised... Dan Dare's orbital bell end

"They also find time to - question Richard's heterosexuality... a lot!"

And let's face it, those questions need asking!

Maybe he dragged a box of your Playgirl magazines over to stand on...

And how can you not mention that pic of Lauren on P3,F5? Gorgeous! (Mind you, I'm used to seeing girls crying, especially after sex. Why do they always do that?)

And calling me a "famous man-eater" won't work, either. Try flowers and a meal and I might just slip you the benefit. (I'm not legendary for nothing, you know  )

Another great ep, boys. Loving you both xx

did you read this in the actual issues or the Case Files? If so, which volume is it in as I wanna know how long I got to wait

And talking Case Files... Flint was on about them putting the Megazine stuff in the case files. I was thinking, would that work or would it be better for them to put that in a seperate collection? The Dredd files or something
Only ask as I know the meg stuff jumps about the timeline a bit whereas the Dredd stuff in 2000AD is all chronological (did I spell that right? Im a bit pissed)

anyway, just a thought like. Sorry to de-rail this thread from its usual "no.. YOU are gay" theme   :P

I kinda miss those jokes, to be honest: "What do you think you're running here, Smart - some kind of circus?"

A bit like the inexplicable plethora of carpet jokes in 'The Warlord' -- "You'll be on the carpet for this, Wilton" and "Cyril Lord's a luxury we can't afford" (which, I admit, my parents had to explain to me).

Cheers!

I'll admit I'm not following it, so someone else will probably have to suggest something useful like actual titles and issue numbers, but isn't the Abnett droid pretty much cleaning up all of Marvel's space stuff these days?

Cheers

C'mon Clint, what's with the uninformed stereotypes?...

Since when was Volkhan supposed to be Middle Eastern? He's a Volgan war robot, the "Ikon of Ikons", Russian.

He has a "helmeted cupola" or "onion dome" for a head, a traditional feature of Russkie orthodox architecture. Big clue being Hammer & Sickle?

no one else see that...

just me then... damnit.

Just finished and another fine fun Podcast.

One point I find really interesting, and well it seems I always have to nit pick summit, was the fact you didn't like Old One Eye having a heart attack I always bloody loved that. It emphasized that she's such a battered old hag with the brain the size of a kitten and all, even for all that (and some stuff to come) her hatred is so all consuming that she is driven on and on. She's just a hate filled old bitch kept going only by a desire to kill humans. If you ever get to the epilogue that's kinda re-enforced.

As for suggests for 2000ad creators work outside the Prog you kinda answered you're own question. Why no have a go at 'Charley's War' its chuffin' brillant. Or if ya after current stuff then yeah I'd go with Jim's idea of Adnett's Marvel stuff, not read it but I'm always curious.

Good job fella's

My fav bit was when Flint was brought a beer by his wife who the offered to drink the beer for him

Flint: "No, you can't take it away and drink it for me"

Mrs Flint: "Well, I wouldn't want it to me a bad enhancement to your ability to talk."

Flint: "I talk more when I have had a beer."

Mrs Flint: "... I know."

Comedy gold.

Loving the podcasts so far, lads.
Being outcast in NZ it's a shining light other than the one coming out of Mordor.

Have you managed to pin down Dredd's age yet? I think the old guy is physically pushing 71 being born in 2066 with the physiological age of 5(ish). That said, Jimmy Saville could still probably outpace him...

I have him at 32/33 in 2099 (When the strip starts). It's 2132 in the strip...so...mmm...66 years old.

It's actually pretty straightforward. Dredd fast-tracked through the Academy and graduated in 13 years rather than the usual 15, meaning that he was physically 18 in 2079, which has him at a physical age of 71.

Obviously, there's the matter of some fairly extensive rejuve work post-Necropolis, plus sundry bits being rebuilt or replaced over the years. Add to that the fact that some people remain pretty damn active up until their late 60s now so it's not hard to imagine that 70 in 2132 isn't much different to 50 today ...

Cheers!

Blimey. Nice one, Jim.
I wonder if there is a Departmental record he is breaking for his 53 years on the force.

"Jangle Jangle, Judgey Judgey..." as Judge Saville is fond of saying.

This is something I've been wanting to see for years (and mentioned in another thread recently) is that we've seen scant little of Dredd's exploits between 2079 and 2099. Twenty whole years. I'd love to see some of how Dredd went from the newly promoted judge, albeit a high flying one, to becoming the most feared man on the force.
He was such a tight ass in the first few progs and that was with 20 years under his belt. How tight must he have been in those first few years?
