Title: Some advice needed on commissions...
Post by: willthemightyW on 20 June, 2010, 03:59:56 PM
Hi, I'm looking into getting a commission done, now I've decided I'll probably get one done by bolt-01 eventually, but would also like one by either Jon Haward, Patrick Goddard or Cliff Robinson. I have got huge amounts of money, so I asked Cliff if he did A4 ones as I assume his A3 one are beyond my budget, which looks rather feeble in comparison to other people who have had commissions done. So basically I need some opinions, who do you guys think I should get one done by?
Thanks, Will.

I guess it's down to how much you're prepared to spend and personal preferance.
My choice of Cliff Robinson was down to him being, in my opinion, one of the definitive Dredd artists of all time, so being a fan of his work was a major factor in my decision.
Also you might want to consider the concept of your of commission-some artists would suit some scenarios better than others. For example, if I wanted Halo Jones in my commission, I'd try and contact Ian Gibson. I knew from an early stage I wanted Dredd to feature, so the obvious choice for me, after all options were considered, was hoping to get Cliff on board.

Hope this helps.

Mine's going to be A3 I'm not sure if he does A4. Just send him an Email and ask, he's a lovely bloke to deal with.

I've been amazed by the Cliff Robinson commissions I've seen. He obviously only produces work to one standard - brilliant.

Any one of them would make an iconic and memorable 2000AD cover. He doesn't seem daunted by any amount of detail or difficulty.

I'm having one done with Cliff next. When I put my idea forward he said, "how about I add **** into the piece" which let me tell you, will add a hell of a lot more detail and work. I just said yes please, obviously  ;)
