It's Chriiiiiistmas!
Hooray! I am proud to kick off this year's advent calendar with a little festive Dredd song for y'all! Apologies for the terrible singing and the poopy drawings but you're allowed to do that at Christmas!
You can find the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fowIRnklOH8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fowIRnklOH8)
And here's a still:

Merry Christmas everyone, thanks for all the great posts this year and I hope your adent calendar entries are all better than mine!
Pete
Fantastic, Pete. It's now officially Christmas.
How can anything do better then that.
Hurrah! Well done Pete - it's starting to feel a lot like Christmas!
Brilliant Mr Wells! Made me laugh like a drain.
Err...now for something completely different. Hope you like my humble offering and best of the season to you all.
HOME
"Jesus Christ," thinks the soldier, " But it's cold. Cold as a witch's tit."
As he stares over the long barrel of his rifle to a world of darkness; frozen mud and scabby crusts of snow.
Over the long barrel of his pulse gun to a world of darkness; ochre dust and scabby crusts of carbon dioxide ice.
"Night's black arch stane", he mutters to himself, not knowing why.
And pulls his filthy great coat tighter, heedless of lice and stink.
Shifts in his filthy battle armour, heedless of raw skin and blisters.
"I wonder what they're doing now?" he thinks,
And he remembers a better Christmas by the hearth in his terrace.
A better Christmas, in the sunlight of his orbital.
"Dear God, I miss them so much" and his eyes shine,
As for the thousandth time he rubs his thumb over the creased and dog-eared print.
Over the scuffed and scored plastic plaque.
"Christ no, I do I have to kill another man tonight?"
Dark shapes, bundled up, stumble through the mud.
Half frozen, stumble through the dust.
And fall back, as a flare hisses up to hang in the iron cold.
A blinding star, a guiding light; no killing this night.
"One day this will end and I can go home," thinks the soldier.
Comfort enough in this joyless place.
Well forgot this was starting today and so this was a glorious surprise! That chin mutation is the work of genius alone, never mind the rest!
YIPPEE! It's snowed all night and the advent calender has started, IT'S CHRIIIIIIIISTMAS!
PeteWellsyes :D:D
very good! :D
Pete, that's great... the line about
cock-rot
really made me chuckle.
BTW, drawing and singing were absolutely fine - IMO, all part of the beauty of it!
Dounreay, very thought provoking and evocatively written!
Worried about following these tomorrow now...
Two fantastic pieces, Christmas time is here again!
Arsom! "There must have been some cock-rot in old Fargo's DNA" had me laughing out loud. Although I'm a little concerned by the implication that Dredd was cloned from Fargo's sperm - Haploid Christmas!
Dounreay's more of a downer, but a fine piece of writing - thanks!
Marvellous stuff! Pete Wells for Christmas Number One!
It's started!
This will make the counting down 'til Christmas that much more fun.
Great fun, Pete - as always, made me laugh. And Dounrey, a superb bit of prose poetry there. Well done!
Great stuff to start the month off with. Pete and his jolly funny little song and Dounreay with his moving words that bring memories of Christmas's away from home and family.
Thanks, Pete - made me warm up with a big smile. :D
Yay!!! Christmas at last!
Great stuff lads, brilliant start!
Well done to Dounrey also, very moving.
Great work, chaps! Yep, it's pissing (wanking) snow here and all, and the advent calender has begun. not long now till Santy's birthday!
Both excellent! I shall attempt to use the phrase "Fargo's cock rot" this evening over dinner. :)
"My goodness Marge, this Stilton cauliflower cheese tastes just like Fargo's cock rot! Is there any more?"
Thanks for all the overly generous comments folks and well done Dounreay on a wonderfully uplifting piece.
Hey Judge Minty guys, if you want any help with special effects, feel free to ask!
Can't wait to see what KeV comes up with tomorrow!
Brilliant Pete! Made me laugh out loud!
(although the wife just gave me a funny look when she heard it. Some people have no sense of humour)
With apologies to Rob Williams and Pearl Jam.
Austerity means that...

Ha ha ha! Absolutely magnificent (as usual) Kev.
Merry Christmas to you sir!

Nice!
Thanks for the kind words fellas, glad you liked it.
I'm down for the 4th but my computer has been up the shit for the past week and it's not looking likely to be going again any time soon!
If someone want to jump in there and fill the gap, please go ahead...
Hopefully I'll have the thing working again soon and I'll contribute to the final day....
Cheers! (and sorry)
love it
Excellent Kev, who wouldn't love to share a meal with Dirty Frank? ;)

Mine is all ready so I'm happy to fill the gap and leave the 11th all to Commando Forces. Is this Ok with you Pete or will it mess up your press releases?
How do i add my name to the list ?
Actually forget it because i will post something on the final day when its open to everyone.

As long as your entry has piss releases, my press releases will be okay!
As for Kev, it's criminal that his work hasn't appeared in the prog yet >:(
Cheers Kev, HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
Great pic there Kev, it reminds me of a story someone on the forum told about pavements and pizzas, if I remember correctly
Its been the 3rd for nearly 9 hours here and I'm hanging to post it I'll do so in about 2.5 hours assuming I'm in front of the PC then.
Will it be worth staying up till midnight for? Computer says NO! :P

Ha ha! As the other 3rd contributor (with artistic assistance from a certain Uncle), I'm aiming for a somewhat more liberal interpretation of when the day starts.....
And yeay for the first two contributions!!
Excellent work so far everyone!!
I love this board.
Gah its too muggy today and I have to spend most of it trimming trees/hedges/grass, super sweat activate!
You weird people and your 'white' christmas'!
Anyhoo, here is my one. Hope you like, and if you don't, don't be mean, otherwise Santa wont come and you'll get nothing from his sack!*

Great start to the advent calendar! Love it.
Thanks, guys. I was in a bit of foul mood through flights being delayed, being deprived of sleep, having a bag falling on my head mid flight and being more then a little jet lagged, but, that has put a massive smile on my face.
Kev, I've said it before, but, you are a genius, stunning work. Get Kev in the prog, NOW.
Loving your work, BMB, loving your shading work.

The talents so far on display make me weep into my egg nogg with jealously! Brilliant work boarders - loving it!
M.
That's a fantastic level of effort from Lady Festina and Uncle Fester. I was lucky enough to read the script beforehand and it was ace even then, but Uncle Fester has done a really nice job on the art too - LOVE the little details.
That's fantastic, Fester and Festina. I really love the Judean People's Block and the People's Block of Judea in the background. Well done.
Wow, that's brilliant! Very FESTive (geddit?) :D
Love it!
Ha! That's great!
Nice work FESTERina. Love the pencil-work as always, Conor.

Fester / Festina - incredible stuff! Really, really lovely work there... Not sure what I like most, the overall story or the little details (love the block names, and the birds' eye street view).
*Sigh* I love this place.
Wow, Fester + Festina, incredible work.
Right then...
+cracks knuckles, ups game+
Absolutely brilliant Fester & Festina (has a certain ring to that team up) love the whole story and pay off.
BMB the shadow on Dredd's helmet highlighting the visor is superb.
Great stuff so far
Fests'(s?) is arsom!!
Wow, the advent calendar 'entries' so far are bloody wonderful... I'm really glad this is a big collaborative effort and not a competition or I'd be very anxious for my day in a week's time...
Buh-luddy hell! Lady F and Fester, that's amazing. Cheers youse two, you're good you are, you, are, good. Happy Yule y'all!

Thanks for all comments yesterday. Uncle Fester uploaded the pic and didn't give himself a credit when he'd done all the hard work!
All of this is brilliant.

So that's what Dredd looks like Buddy :o
Buttonman, what goes on in your mind and by the way, is your Tharg a limited edition
Like a proper simp, I've only just seen this (I've been looking at the other thread and wondering when it was all going to start). Brilliant, brilliant stuff everyone - and a cool Yule to the lot of ye!
Good night. We (George Moore & Shutendogi) wish you a Merry Christmas and also a Happy New Year, no less.

Here´s the poem as text only -as an image I couldn´t upload it in a wider size:
Twas the Night Before Christmas, when all through the Meg
Not a creature was stirring...Not even a Klegg
The Lawgivers hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that Judge Dredd soon would be there
The fatties were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of Umpty Candy danced in their heads
And Ma-Ma in her kerchief, and I in my cap
Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap
When out on the Block there aroused such a clatter
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter
Away to the window I flew like a powerboard
Tore open the shutters and threw up the cord
The moon on the breast of the cursed earth gloom
Gave the lustre of mid-day on a deserted Slipzoom
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But Judge Death, Mortis, Fire and Fear!
Then a shout of Command, And a shot to Deaths head
I knew in a moment it must be Judge Dredd!
Confronting the Dark Ones his voice calm and deep
He ordered the corpses to 'Drokking Freeze Creep!'
Now Death, Now Mortis, Now Fire, Now Fear
Knew of Dredds great prowess and wouldn't come near
'To the Top of the Tom Cruise Block' Death said to his brood
'We'll dine on some citizens to lighten the mood'
A murder of Chump-Dump proportions it's said
Occurred as Dredd tried to corral the undead
So up to the block tops his Lawmaster screeched
To uphold the Law and protect the beseetched
'The punishment Death for the crime of life'
The dark ones judgement was gratuitous and rife
Until Anderson PSI arrived on the scene
Then Judge Deaths complexion turned a sick shade of green
Judge Fire was confined to the Smokatorium dome
Judge Fear was just laughed at and sent home alone
Judge Mortis was plagued by an infestation of doubt
And froze on the spot with terminal gout.
Judge Deaths penchant for blondes had soon disappeared
It was as he had dreaded...as he had feared
At the last Christmas party, the bringer of doom
Had fumbled with Anderson in the spare room
The result 9 months later was easy to see
The Psi Judge had arrived with a Death Mini Me
And a maintenance bill he could little afford
'He's your responsibility too!' Anderson roared!
Death made his escape, and to this day
Is still being chased by PSI CSA
And mini Death's godfather Joseph Dredd said
"That Judge Death will pay every drokking last cred!"
So Death fans please spare a thought for him this year
He is not full of merriment...Not full of cheer
A small indiscretion with a beautiful lady
Has left him on the run, and her holding the baby
Merry Christmas everyone!
Ha ha ha, that was nuts guys! I wanna see baby Death!
Thanks a bunch fellas!
That was arsom.
A mini death with long blond flowing locks is a must.
V
There's been some wonderful, wonderful stuff again this year. Lovin' that Dredd and the Dark Judges.
Brilliant! Happy Christmas fellas, that's class.
Totally mental stuff, in the best possible way! Nice one, lads, love it!
Fantastic chaps, well done!
I bloody LOVE this :D
I struggle to find time to post most days but I've just been through this thread and want to say:
Pete Wells – love it. Made me chuckle. Perfect start.
Dounreay – excellent moving thought provoking stuff there.
KevLev – fantastic as always. Very topical. And it's leftover sandwiches or curry on Boxing Day. I'll also give that a miss.
BMB – Great work. Munce pies – good one.
Lady Festina and Uncle Fester – what can I say. Unfu*king believable. Superb concept, script and masterful pencil work. Well worth looking at the larger version. Great touches I didn't spot such as 'deliveries only'.
Buddy – That needs to be used as an Xmas card.
Buttonman – Surely this man is going to start a new art movement: Lo-fi with piss stains.
Shutendogi – Superb loose linework. Brilliant poem.
Amazing amount of effort put into these and Buttonman's also put a bit of time into his.

MIssed that yesterday - great! The poem had me chuckling, especially the second half, and I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love shutendogi's muppet-Dredd!

It wouldn't be the festive season without a Sexy Anderson! Good stuff Dunk, can't wait to see the final thing!
Aw Dunk, that's looking stunning! Cheers fella!
That is excellent Dunk. I looked at it earlier on my phone when I was down the town and it looked like she had a sort of Servalan haircut, due to not noticing the hat ::)

Poorly worded excuse thread now up over on my blog.

And we've got two sets of 12 (3 of each of these bad boys) to give away! just send your board name, real name and address (we won't share them of course) to this address: thewonderfulbarn@gmail.com, and answer this salmon-leapingly easy question:

b) Karl Turban
c) Karl Heniz-pilchards-in-tomato-sauce-clayderman
Get your entries in before midnight tomorrow night and we'll announce the winners on Friday afternoon; when we'll also publish downloadable versions for everyone else. 2 lucky winners get a set of cards and a little something extra.

May I also use the spirit of the season to shed my Irish cynicism and say that it's been an absolute pleasure to work with Johnny - not only is he ridiculously good at drawing, but also a more chilled-out, amiable and genuine guy would be hard to meet.
Altogether now: IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL BARN OF THE YEAR!
Wow! How cool are those cards and how generous are you two?!?
Brilliant work guys!

Cards. Also have a pint on me for mentioning the Wonderful Barn!
An excellent idea by the leixlip massive and so well done, my name is in your inbox ;)

DanDontDare and I are going to swap days! So, that'll be me (and Roger) tomorrow, DDD on the 12th.
-- Mike
Yup, thanks Mike. I'm currently having college flashbacks - all those wasted days and now I'm frantically trying to do a ton of work in one sitting! Now that I've got an extension I reckon I'll have cup of tea and a quick look at the paper - LOOOOADS of time on Saturday! ::)
Dandontdare if you need longer I think I'm good to go any time now (well I've either done it right or not time ain't going to make a difference now) So if you want to swap form the 12th to the 17th that's all good with me either way.

Oh its much more that I've no really relevant talent and so have to think a little different and as it turned out the idea I had, I think (gulp we'll see) was easy to sort out... christ have I ever jinxed that!
I so wish I had the talent to fall behind on a drawing as good as the ones posted here.
Thanks, but if I extend it more, I'll just leave it longer! 12th should be fine (gulp).
BTW, forgot to mention above just how much I'm loving everything so far. Dunk's sexy Anderson(hubba) is brilliant, as are CFM's DR & Who and those awesome Xmas cards.
Yet more amazing work!
Just the business this thread! :D
Great idea Johnny and Jayzus, I've stuck my name in the hat. Happy Christmas!

Love it Mike..aside from a Swedish hockey player that's the next best thing we would all like to wake up to on Christmas morn ;)
I have a tear in my eye looking at that Mike and that's not because of the wallpaper.
Could you make those real and send them to my address ;)
Way to go, Johnnystress and JayzusB.Christ. Beautiful stuff. Poor Rhodes.
Those look fantastic, Mike. But if they come with reprints of Phantom Patrol I am more than happy to stay in our dimension and our much loved end of year progs.
Once again this thread surpasses itself. Mike that is just a little bit of magic right there. Oh how I wish it was so!
Wonderful.
Humble effort he says, sheesh! Your modesty has reached new heights Mike. A 2000AD annual on Christmas morning, ahhhh revery.
Happy Christmas Mike!
Oh man. Two superb entries from the Irish contingent!
Really nice Johnny and Jaysus... totally jealous of that idea.
Now, I really want those annuals Mike. Same content as the end of year progs of course. I feel all nostalgic for something that didn't exist...
Awesome pic Mike... but like everyone else, its ARSOM tinged with sadness :'(
Oh, and just for the record. I have mine done so if anyone is feeling deadline pressures and wants to swap, drop me a PM as Im not due up till the 21st
Mike, your pic makes me sad, in a good way. Great work.
In fact great work by all.
Vitual mince pies and an over generous measure of virtual brandy all round.
Hu-hick-zzah!
A nice new bunch of entries - I can't thank you guys enough for bringing a smile to my face every day. I've only been with this forum for two years, but stuff like this always makes me happy to be a part of this family.
I... I have something in my eye
grud bless us..everyone
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh :'(
Brilliant Mike!
I not only want the annuals but the funting wrapping paper! Nice job Mr C! :D
Fantastic Mike. The perfect Christmas morning!
That's brilliant, Mike - Brings a lump to the throat.
*sniff*
Do the germans have a word for feeling nostalgia for something that's never existed?
Thanks for all the kind words, guys!

That's fair welled me up, Mike, makes ye proud to be a fan through it all. If only it could be like this all the time...
M.
Grud I'm thick. At first I just thought "he's taken a photo of his annual collection - huh?", but on closer inspection it turns out to be a wonderful Christmas fantasy! *sigh*
And thanks again Mike for swapping slots!
Hmmm, today was meant to be Roger's turn too. After last year's depravity I don't know whether to be worried or relieved...
Mike, that is arsom but makes me sad. Why don't we get those lovely annuals anymore. (OK so in general the contents was less than stellar but still) .. A sight to behold
Wonderful piece Mike. But where are the Dredd annuals?
V
A fantastic piece of work, Mike. Excellent, I only wish they were real.
Happy holidays! Here's a piece Dirk Van Dom asked me to do of Dirty Frank and Nemesis enjoying some Christmas cheer. That is until some idiot bumped into there table.

Holy shit, that's fantastic! I love Nemesis' bow tie and Pina Colada!
Cheers Dave!
Amazing stuff, Dave Hedmark, love it! Right then... for my bit of the advent calendar, I would like to present... 2000AD at the Xmas Movies! Featuring a science-fiction double-feature...

Rejected ideas: It's a Waughnderful Life, Nightmare Before Necropolismas, Santa Claus Conquers The Betelgeusians, Fred 2L Claus and sundry others. And while I'm here... fellow festive forumites, though I have only been around here a few months, you have made me feel very welcome and helped rekindle my love of all things zarjaz! Many thanks, and as Eddie and Richie from 'Bottom' would say... 'MERRY BLOODY CHRISTMAS!'
Cheers Dave and Greg, bloody wonderful. Happy Christmas!
Lads oh lads, yiz are all funtin' geniuses. Anyone who says this board is a negative place needs to have this thread shoved up their virtual jacksee.
BTW, Mike's annuals caused me to experience a whole new emotion: paranostalgia.
Hedmark; that's stunning! Absolutely superb and would grace the year end prog if it featured. Fantastic.
Greg; like all the best ideas, so simple and elegant when you see it done properly! Wonderfully executed and I'm sucker for the puns...but Thrax as Santa is just the bestest thing EVAH turnipheads!
This thread makes me happy :D
M.
Great Work guys...and Merry Christmas! :D
Excellent work all round! You can't go far wrong with Dogbrain in a Christmas jumper and Nemesis in a dicky-bow.
Dave that is absolutely freaking awesome...but....check your messages!!!
(To explain my involvement in that pic, its for something special I am preparing for the 22nd.....so, em, just think of that as a little teaser please!!!)
Aw brilliant Greg! I reckon that would be a cracking idea for a comp!
More brilliant work from you all, how I miss the annuals used to love waking up xmas morning to 2000AD and Judge Dredd.
Can't wait to see what other goodies are waiting behind the advent calendar doors.

No worries monarch, it's the thought that counts! Remember there's the Christmas Eve free for all where you can show off your considerable comic strip prowess!
Harking back a couple of days to me and Johnny's competition - We've (quite literally) picked two names out of my hat, and...
Buttonman and Mikey:

A set of cards, as well as a couple of extra Christmas presents, will be winging their way to each of you as soon as I get down to the post office. Thanks to everyone who entered, and for the various kind sentiments and funny comments contained within the entries.
Johnny will be posting the downloadable versions of the cards later this evening.
Oh yeah, and I know it was a tough one, but the answer was a) Karl Urban. So Mikey, your trawl through Google paid off, and Buttonman, I wish it was c) too but that's life, eh
Great work by everyone so far. Keep it up as they're a lot of fun to look at.
Marvellous! Thanks so much guys and in the Christmas spirit I would like to say 'get it right up you' to all my fellow entrants!
As ever, cheers for all the kind words about my advent stuff, folks. I came close to making it a triptych with a 'Miracle On 34th Parallel' one, which would have featured Alternate Maximan cuddling Zenith, but decided not to hog the thread!

Yes folks, the trusty helmet and Lawgiver have made a welcome return, as I do my bit in pushing Dredd onto the streets (and into the Grotto's). I asked Santa if he had heard of Dredd and he said yes, so now came the hard part. "I have a helmet and gun at home from the character, would you be okay wearing these and arresting my son for a picture?" and the man in the red suit, he did say....well you can tell what he said from above.
Merry Christmas to you all from the Forces Family
So that's what happens when you go on the naughty list!
Cracking CF, it's amazing the lengths folk are going to to make this calendar special! Grud bless us, everyone!
Fantastic! Happy Christmas to you and the family Mr.Forces! I'm gonna behave a lot better now I know Santa's tooled up.

HOW IT WORKS: :geek: Visit the SPOT THE THRILL (http://spot-the-thrill.blogspot.com/) blog (or this Photobucket album (http://s531.photobucket.com/albums/dd359/anaconda888/SPOT%20THE%20THRILL/) if you'd rather watch it as a slideshow), where you'll find
100, yup, one whole hundred panels from progs down the years.
:geek: Simply identify the name of the strip (not the character, or the particular story arc ... EXCEPT for the Dredd ones, where I need the name of the story too)
:geek:
PLEASE DON'T POST SPOILERS here or on the blog, send me a PM with your answers by
Christmas Day and I'll announce the result as soon as my mince pie and brandy hangover subsides.
:geek: G'wan have a go! Even if you can only get a few, how many entries are there likely to be? Nobody's going to get them all, some of them are tough!
:geek: HINTS and TIPS: The panels cover the entire run - there's at least one from prog 1 and at least one from the latest prog (1715). There are SIX Dredd stories represented, but no other strip appears more than once.
THE PRIZE: (http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd359/anaconda888/0012-1.jpg)
It's an action packed page from Tour of Duty. I hope Colin's not offended by me getting rid of it so soon after buying it! I just had to buy it at BICS 'cos there were so many lovely pages at such reasonable prices, and all the cool kids were buying art. However, I've already shown it to the handful of people I know who'd appreciate it, I don't really intend to become a collector, and I have nowhere to adequately display it, so it'll just sit rolled up in a tube on a shelf, which is a shame. As they always say on Cash in the Attic, I'd like it to go to someone who'll give it the appreciation it deserves.
This is something that I started ages ago, but I didn't anticipate how much effort was involved in going through my entire prog-stack and then scanning, cropping, labelling and uploading 100 panels, so it kinda got abandoned. Since I had no other ideas for the Advent calendar, I thought I'd dust it off and get it finished.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
yes, I know 'COMPETITION' is spelled wrong, but it's not my fault, it's just Tharg's weird alien accent!
Man oh man I'm all over this - that'll look lovely next to my Christmas card prize!
Edit : Ooh that's a bit hard innit. 50% off the bat, the rest will need some cognitation...
Man oh man that's a great and very generous prize. I reckon 70-80% off the bat but there's some stinkers there that will require quite a bit of digging.
What fun can't wait to find the time to dig into this one.
Nice one.
Cool! I haven't got a hope against some of the Mentat level 2000AD experts in these here parts but I'll give it a go. Brilliant idea DDD and very generous, Happy Christmas sir!
And that made me chuckle Filip, cheers, Happy Christmas to you too.
Nice one, flip-r!
Dandontdare - brilliant idea, I love testing my thrill knowledge. Like Colin, a quick run-through has allowed me to recognise about 70-80% of them, but because of my thrill hiatus I'm unlikely to improve on that. The frustrating ones are the ones I know I've seen before though, but can't quite put my finger on...
I won't say the number, but my favourite was one I looked at and thought "What the hell is that thing?" and then it suddenly dawned on me...
I wonder if you're talking about no 59. That one certainly did that to me.
Yes, Colin, that was the one. :)
Oh boy...! 33 I'm sure of, another dozen whose name escapes me at the moment, about ten I'm dithering about, most of the rest are vaguely familiar, but there's some I've just not got a clue about!
Dandontdare: You've just raised this thread up a whole new level!
-- Mike
Brilliant!
And I've a head start on No38- the original art is hanging on our wall!
looking through those.... makes me incredibly proud. What a marvellously insane and gloriously disturbing comic we've chosen to lash ourselves to.
I'm welled up with tears - I cannot possibly enter - !
55 at the moment, a few more maybe's and a fair few real head scratchers. Excellent sport!
Very cool, flip.
DDD, that is incredible. I don't have a chance of wining it myself, but so much efort must of gone into that.
So, is it cheating if I recognise the artist but not the story, and then use Barney to look up what all they've done in the hope of it helping me guess?
Bit of a Bellardinelli bias there, DDD! Good man.
Haw! Christams glowing balls! Nice one Flip!
Another competition? I'm good at those...what a prize Dan!
M.
Brilliant picture Flip, I love the colouring! And DDD, that is just amazing! What a wonderful gesture and a brilliant idea! It must have taken you sodding ages!!!
More fab entries since I last looked.
Good stuff Filip and CF, nice gesture too DDD!
Sorry fellas, that's me done and I'm pretty, pretty, pret-ah sure that I've nailed it. 52 will win, right Phil?
That's the first entry in from Buttonman. I'm giving nowt away, except to say that there were some right and some wrong (and one I think you hallucinated because I'm fairly sure that was no such story!). A respectable total, but beatable so keep 'em coming.
Quote from: Pete Wells on 12 December, 2010, 07:23:41 PMIt must have taken you sodding ages!!!
Much longer than I anticipated, hence the need for a date-change. I wish I hadn't chosen 100 but I'd already started adding numbers to them, so I couldn't go back. Also, some of these progs hadn't been opened in 10 or 20 years, so I kept getting distracted reading stuff!
Great stuff Dan. I've got answers for 75 so far. About fifty I'm certain of, another dozen I'm 95% sure about and a bunch of random guesses for the rest.
Oh-ho, 75 for me at the moment as well. Great fun trying to ferret this lot out, cheers again Phil.
Quote from: Dandontdare on 12 December, 2010, 10:29:53 PM
(and one I think you hallucinated because I'm fairly sure that was no such story!)
How dare you - stories that I crayoned into Progs count and 'Captain Underpants and the Meringue of Fear' is a solid gold classic!
Brilliant idea DDD and a very generous prize, sitting on 82 stories at moment and 95 of the artists will now have to search through the progs for rest no21 the only real sticking point.
filip

This can be heard free on Spotify. Just follow these links (this will involve downloading Spotify if you don't have it already, sorry only way I could work out to do this! This is free, but does have advertising)
2000ad X-Mas mix - Side 1 - http://open.spotify.com/user/colin.ynwa/playlist/4OmuQzVnFK5jeeT4L53Qgs (http://open.spotify.com/user/colin.ynwa/playlist/4OmuQzVnFK5jeeT4L53Qgs)

Side 1 features actual 2000ad related tributes and tunes. I take no responsibility for the quality of these!
Side Colin features tunes with a slightly more tentative (ahem) 2000ad connection but are tunes from my record collection (or near enough)
Each side is of course approximately 45 minutes long. How I miss you C90s.
There are also some video bonus features (errr just like you always got on mix tapes!?!). With a couple of tracks I couldn't find on Spotify and a few other treats. This too involves advertising.

We have the mother in law staying with us from the 22nd to the 28th
I shall be sobbing quietly throughout xmas whilst attempting to sneak the wife off for verrrrry quiet sex.
That said I do have 8 boxes under the stairs each containing 24 bottles of beer. Gonna try and float through the whole thing.
Anyway, thought I'd go for the classy option
(http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn11/welshbluemeanie/ADVENTCALENDAR.jpg)
Merry Bloody Christmas, Bluemeanie! :D
Nice work Blue! On the picture, not on the mother in law. That Alba one needs a good
law giver to complete the pic
M.
Mmmmmmm, works for me. Happy Christmas, Blue.
"Great minds think alike, Bluemeanie," he said, binning the cartoon of Durham Red standing alone under the mistletoe whilst everyone lines up with the safer option of DeMarco.
Ha ha ha nice one - stay classy :)
Nice! I'll be shunning that one later (it's about time shunning was resurrected, if you ask me)
Right... I've been a bit devoid of ideas since my Dredd poem for the board compy, but have today roused my tiny brain and written a love song to the Prog, called "Hey There 2000AD".
I will make a video as soon as I can - when can I put it on this thread please?
Any time you like Alski! Christmas Eve is the official free for all (plus the pros - I've already got two pro pics!) but I'm sure no one will mind if you want to do it before then!
Oh and that's brilliant Bluemeanie but scaring accurate to my, and I'm sure one or two other board members', favourite little daydream!
Guys...wow...thanks so much for the compliments, when in truth, I'm just relieved you enjoyed it. I don't know what to say except that you've made me feel really happy! Thanks so much all!
I can't believe I haven't commented on this thread yet, considering how much glee I've been leeching from it. Both of Uncle Fester's strips have blown my mind and I've had "Joe Dredd, the lawmaaaaan" stuck in my head since the 1st.
Is it wrong that I'm looking forward to the 22nd more than the 25th this year? I'm talking about the complete Van Domination of Xmas, not the advent of bluemeanie's mother-in-law :D (I feel for you man, perhaps you and Mr Schadenfreude can take solace in the fact that mine lives in the apartment above us all year round!)
Anyhoo, Merry Xmas lads and keep up ze good works. A Ghost is watching....
Great stuff chaps, amazing effort by all! My offering:
Slaine and Ukko get into the swing of Christmas with mince pies and a spot of, *ahem*... Fegnog.
(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5130/5264306803_7fa63ea202_o.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/neil_ford/5264306803/)
Woah, settle down there Ghosty! Van Domination?!?!? Yikes, I hope its as good as all that! (pressure....)
As for everything else - bloody hell what can I say. You're all amazing bastards! Well done everyone, this has to be thread of the year?
And Neil Ford - Sweet Jesus! You have heard there is an opening for a Slaine artist I take it....??
holey moley! :o
great pic, Neil.
Me, I've gone down the musical route, with an unashamed love letter to 2000AD, called "Hey There 2000AD", using Aero's prog cover video as a backdrop.
Hope you all like it, and Merry Christmas!

Alski - super lovely singing voice you've got there - what a sweet song! Although I should credit the original lest ye enrage the copyright gods!
NeilFord - STOP
BEING
SO
RIDICULOUSLY
GOOD
Alski - great! I wasn't sure what I was going to hear when I clicked on the link, but you do have a nice voice - do you sing at the books shop as well? Ha! Are you also playing? Good to hear "arsom" dropped once again...
Neil - nice, nice, nice! Can't say more than that!
I used a karaoke backing track, as my talents only lie in the vocals - tricky song to sing though.
Also on my YouTube are "Cider man" based around Michael Bouble's swing version of the cartoon theme and "Father & Son" as sing by Luke Skywalker and darth Vader, among others.
I sing comedy songs in my stand up routine sometimes.

More musical goodness! "Stallone's to blame"
And I haven't even got through all of Colin's playlist yet!
And a rocking piece by Neil Ford too!
I love this thread.
Neil Ford for next Slaine artist!
Nothing like hacking someone's brains out for Christmas.
Alski & Neil, fantastic. How the feck am I supposed to follow that tomorrow. I 'Fink' I'm going to have to up my game ;)
Now that's an eyecatching image Neil! Superb!
And a lovely song to boot. Well, isn't that nice?
M.
Neil - fantastic
Alski - I really didn't know what to expect, but that was bloody amazing.
Excellent stuff fellas! Happy Christmas!
Love that Slaine pic, Neil. I can almost feel the impact! Alskis song is great, too. What a top day on the calendar. :D
More fooking exellent work from all involved so far and still more to look forword too.
filip
PS Happy very belated Birthday Fester.
Just to get y'all excited, I've got FIVE (really lovely!) pictures from the pro's already for the Christmas Eve thread with quite a few more promised!
Merry Christmas everyone!

Nice one Bhuna! I'd been looking forward to this since your *SUBTLE HINT* yesterday ;)
Thank you, Bhuna - nice work, fella!
it's so frustraing not to able to see images at work! I'll check out Bhuna's tonight. Neil's Slaine and Alski's song were brilliant.
Why not take this weekend to have a go at the SPOT THE THRILL competition? Even if you don't think you're likely to win, have a go for fun! Entries are very thin on the ground so far (two to be exact!)
Alski I totally loved your song! Fantastic stuff guys you are all arsom
Nice one Bhuna, I luvs The Fink, a brilliant character! Alski's song was great too.
Many thanks for all the kind comments chaps, Merry Xmas to you all.
Yeah! Great to see Fink's waterin' hole - excellent!
And as an aside - I just wanted to say an extra thanks to the Leixlip Massive, as I got my cards today PLUS the original art of one of them PLUS a Dredd annual 1986 PLUS a Daily Star Dredd collection! You are truly generous fellas, cheers! :D
M.
PS - I think the rules for Dan's contest should include no looking up characters. That means I'd be in with a chance...if I entered...
M.
That is amazing, Bhuna! Ol' Fink is a personal favourite of mine.

Man oh man it's a Christmas miracle! Just heading out to the office party only to be met by the neighbour with a parcel. What a treat! Some vintage thrill power was used to quell the almighty glow of the best Christmas cards, well, ever.
Thanks so much Gents a real selfless act that is really appreciated - I'm going to buy some old soak a drink tonight in your honour.
I'm even willing to believe you didn't nick the envelopes out of Hallmark!
Best thread ever!
Top thrill Bhuna! Happy Christmas mate!

Today's advent...
Apologies for delay, work's Christmas do, hangover, 1 year old, 6.00am, knackered, just made it - it's a tad rushed, but with five kids leading up to Christmas is crazy in our house.
Merry Christmas to everyone.
Arctic Judges. Now that's more like it. Splendid piece.
V
Incredible, LARF. So worth the wait.
Larf.. that just might be the best thing I have ever seen..... particularly like the reindeer belt buckle...
If we're voting on this thread... you get my top vote.
Thanks for a great pic... Merry Christmas to you and your lot....
J.
Taking a short break from working on mine to see how things are going round these parts.
Good work Bluemeanie with the fine ladieees.
Just brilliant Slaine pic, Neil, brilliant.
Course we like it Alski. Great to see so many people talented in different ways.
Bhuna – great Fink and Ratty and cool idea. Thanks for stepping in for me.
Exilewood – if you have a camera on your mobile why not take a snap with that?
LARF – Nice one!
Right. Back to work. It ain't gonna be a first thing in the morning contribution so talk amongst yourselves...
Brilliant LARF! Happy Christmas to you and all the Marshall horde. Love the little details on that.
Mine's due when? Aaaaarrgh!
Bluemeanie - Hubba, hubba - I considered a Anderson/Red Mash up for the previous art comp - lovely!
Neil Ford - Ace, great impact on that (no pun intended).
Bhuna - As lovely as Fink can be, this is.
Larf - Great stuff - nothing says 'Festive' like ripping the p*ss out of prominent soft drinks' manufacturers!
This thread continues to delight and reward!
Thank you, LARF - an original take on things, very christmassy and talented.
Larf - that's brilliant!
M.
Lard that's the reindeers danglies! :D
This thread is great! I can't remember how it was done last year, but when it's finished are all the entires going to be collected on their own dedicated thread (like they do with the art competitions) so we can see them all together?
Larf NOT Lard ;)
Thanks for the kind comments everyone, sat here now just relaxing thank the lord. Little one's in bed, youngest son is on computer, middle lad's upstairs, eldest daughter stayed at a friends house and eldest lad is at his girlfriend's, the missus and I are sat watching My Fair Lady. I'm sure they will be.

Ay ay ay, holy free-holey Sharky! That is unbelievable sir! Congratulations and a very Happy Christmas.
Thanks for the kind comments for my one folks.
Incredible, set perfectly to Morricone. Whatever time was spent on this was well worth it.
How am I meant to fallow this tomorrow.
This thread is really great and all the pics so far are a credit to the board.
But Shark, that's amazing- poignant and heartfealt. (I hope you've sent Carlos a link via email or facebook.)
These are the things that make this board great.
Holy shit Sharky, we can all see the incredible amount of work that went into that! Simply brilliant!
Thank you sooooo much!
Fucking hell Sharky! :o
That was absolutely stunning! So I'm going to ask if no one else will - how long did it take?? Were you converting the images to eps files for the zooming in bits or something?
Thanks everyone :) Glad you like it.
It was a case of selecting images, scanning them, vectorizing them so they could be resized without going too blocky, exporting them as bitmaps, removing all the SFX and speech bubbles and filling in the spaces left behind by drawing what I thought looked right in their place, arranging them in some kind of order and then animating them on 2d planes in Bryce 7PLE. Then came the filters and whatnot in Corel, adding the music and stitching it all together in several programs. Interspersed with this was lots of shouting at the computer and general frustration. In all, I reckon it's taken me about forty to fifty hours of mounting insanity (meep). Kinda' gives me a deeper respect for The Simpsons - the characters in my effort don't even move or speak! (I did send Carlos a link, Dog, at your suggestion - so if he sues me I'll blame you  )
It's all worth it, though - it's a pleasure to be a part of such a talented and generous community, and if I can pass on some of the pleasure all your works have given me throughout the year, then it's time well spent.
Festive salutations to you all!
Once again Mr Shark you give us all a lesson in what it is to be truly legendary.

You legendarily talented Shark ye! That was absolutely fantastic - inspired choice of music.
That Max Bubba; what a bastard!

Wow Sharky... just WOW!
That's dedication, Shark. Can't believe you put in all that effort!
Good job it didn't turn out to be shite! :D
Time for me now.
With Christmas being a time for giving and when you have no talent and very little creativity, there was only one thing I could do, the exact same as last year.
I purchased an extra copy of prog 2011, left a little message inside and then warped this up in some Christmas paper. This was then left on a bench in a local park with a label on it inviting whoever found it to take it.

There is a reason for nearly all the casting there from the Shepherd to the Three Kings.
It could also all be seen as a metaphor, for something or other, if you were a big silly billy ;)
"I am the PA!" Heh, heh.
It was a scrotnig idea last year Gavin and equally so this. Lets just hope it doesn't blow some unsuspecting non-squaxx's thrill buffers. :D
Emperor, El Chivo and Bolt, that's one hell of a nativity play. You'd have to be nuts to heckle that lot, or from Zrag.
Happy Christmas to you all!
Love it - Dredd as "Joe" is a nice little touch.
The art is reminiscent of Alan Davis, which is nice.
Amazing stuff Shark - !
Glorious thing to do Gavin - !

Wowzers. Nice bloody work Emps/Bolt/Chi.... but this whole thread is just fantastic. Happy Christmas!

Still not getting too much chances to check the internet, but brilliant work, everyone!
Lovely pic, Emperor, Chiv and Bolt (I always enjoy a bit of blasphemy, hence the boardname), inspired choice of music and great work on the animation, Sharky, and Gavin, if it ain't broke why fix it - that's the one I remember most from last year! Sorry if I missed people, I'm in an internet cafe, it's all good though
Thanks for all the comments, folks. locustsofdeath! – I am honoured. Would love to. (I had similar comments a year ago from a couple of the other small pressers. Have I had time to take them up on their offer? Bah!)
Great McNulty, Kerrin. Cracked me up. Life has been cruel to the old piss head.
The Legendary Shark – like, wow. Really enjoyed that. Cool choice of music.
Gavin – If Xmas is all about giving, then what better present to give than Prog 2010 and the gift of Thrill Power. Very nice of you. Let's hope we hear from whoever picks this up.
Emperor, El Chivo and Bolt – now that's what I call a nativity play. It's about time we saw the Dictators of Zrag again. Well, it isn't but great piece nevertheless.
Emperor, Chiv and Bolt, that looks cracking, love it.

I don't know - if it ended up in the hands of a 2000AD-equivalent of the Porn Fairy it could still help spread Thrills as hairy-palmed schoolboys could stumble across a page or two shoved in a hedge or round the back of the Nun's Garden at school. Or has the Internet spoiled another one of our fondly remembered childhood games? Anyway better than it being blown up as a suspect package, but then again a shower of singed prog falling across this snow-encrusted land would have a certain poetry to it...
Glad everyone liked our entry - it is now updated with and RGB coloured version which has less harsh colouring (apparently - you know what these artistic types are like ;) ).

Thanks for all the overly kind words everyone and I promise to do something more inventive next year.
If it was blown up as a suspect package than that could be only described as a true expression of Trill Power.
More awesomeness.
Supersurfer - looking forward to seeing the second part!
Kerrin - Good stuff, the season wouldn't be complete without an unwanted/useless gift.
Shark - again, your efforts are above and beyond!
Gavin - really glad you did the same thing again this year! it's STILL a brilliant idea!
Emps, Chivo, Bolt - Lovely - always nostalgic to see a nativity play, really nice to see some older characters in there too!
My turn, (and I'm a virgin to this so go easy on me)!
Seeing as the only thing I can really do creatively is string words together into reasonably interesting sentences, that's precisely what I decided to do for my contribution. Remember the old 'choose your own adventure' stories? Well, I've prepared one for you to read/play, that centres around a night at a 2000ad Christmas party, as you mingle with various characters, get involved in various situations, and just generally try to make it through the night. The rules are simple. DON'T get eaten by Zombo. DON'T send Slaine into a warp spasm. And, above all, DON'T piss off Judge Dredd. If you can manage all that, you MIGHT impress Tharg and be rewarded, you MAY score with a really hot chick (3 to choose from!), you MIGHT save one character from an old nemesis, and you COULD foil a devious plot to sabotage the party and blow everyone to smithereens! Depending on the choices you make and the way you progress through the story, there are a number of different objectives you can be presented with. There are also quite a few sticky endings you can come to if you don't choose carefully, so watch out!
When I decided to do this at the start of November, I realised early on that, in order to make it visually interesting and not just blocks of text, it was going to need spot illustrations, so I sent out a call to arms to a number of fellow boarders, and, I have to say, was overwhelmed by the positive response and support I received. To make this a funner experience – and add an extra level of entertainment - there are TWENTY-NINE brand-new and original illustrations by TWENTY-SEVEN of our fellow boarders accompanying the story. The thing is, they are specific to certain events that occur within the story, so the choices you make and the way you progress will determine which ones you see. It's not possible to see all the illustrations on one read-through, nor even two, so there's a bit of a treasure hunt ahead of you here. And, believe me, there are some awesome pictures to be found. I would like to take this opportunity to give a big shout out to the wonderful artists who helped me out on this (and whose illustrations you will be searching for) so a great bit THANK YOU to:
Bolt-01, mygrimmbrother, staticgirl, mitahane, Davey Candlish, Kevlev, Johnnystress, Ghostpockets, M.I.K, Dog Deever, Chris Askham, Elchivo, BMB, Crazyfoxmachine, conceptboy, Flip-R Mk2, krombasher, Steven Denton, Mike Carroll, Darren Stephens, Bhuna, Woolly, Professor Byah, Dark Jimbo, Cthulouis, Dave Hedmark and Chaingunchimp
(Additional props go to Mike Carroll for the wonderful logo he designed to accompany the adventure).
That said, and without further ado, I give you...
PARTY CRASH! THE 2000AD CHRISTMAS BLOWOUT, 2010! (By Invitation Only!) (http://toothmas2010.blogspot.com/)
I reeeeeally hope you enjoy this and have fun reading it. I had a lot of fun putting it together, though it was incredibly time-consuming and I had to restrain myself from going as wild with it as I would have liked. A single read-though can be anything from 4 to 20 installments, depending on the choices you make. There is one way to go that enables you to achieve all the objectives of the story, while others will yield just one, so hopefully I've created a good bit of re-read value here. Also, don't forget about tracking down all those pictures!
Enjoy and a very Happy Christmas to everyone!
Ugh... I died... :)
Superb concept, Van Dom! I'm off to have another go!

That was brilliant...loved it...good effort all round!
I've played it a couple of times now - lots of fun!
Well done Van Dom (and all the other collaborators)!
It's brilliant!!! What a fantastic idea Van Dom! I really appreciate how much time and effort this must have taken to produce, what a wonderful gesture!
This thread is absolutely fab!
Oh, TWO 2000AD artists have sent me brilliant images today for Friday's thread, I can't wait!!!

Oh, TWO 2000AD artists have sent me brilliant images today for Friday's thread, I can't wait!!!
Make that THREE!
That is excellent stuff, Van Dom! I fully intend to find my way through every possible outcome... Good thing I spent all those years playing adventure games: I know how to map this sort of thing!
-- Mike
And here is my entry (finally) which I would love to do as a comic strip one day (if I ever find an artist)
Please read it and tell me how it is. I've been working on it for years...
If you like it I'll be happy to put up more of it
http://daarkquest.blogspot.com/2010/12/daark-quest-chapter-1.html
I like this thread.
If anyone's posting a link to Van Dom's adventure and wants a pic to accompany it that hasn't been used in the story itself, you're welcome to use this thing I've done using cover artwork by Chris Weston.
I've ended up at Ghostpockets picture SO THEREFORE I WIN.
Glorious glorious GLORIOUS stuff Van Dom - so proud to be a part of this one :D Cheers for asking - !
Brilliant idea Dirk! So far I'm doing particularly badly.
Well done to all the collaborators.
Excellent Van Dom... Its a great story... with some great art work... just a shame that I am doing so badly!
haven't had a chance to comment recently, but all the entries have been fantastic.
Sharky's animation really made me want to re-read Rage instantly! And I've just played van Dom's roleplay about 10 times before I got to a happy ending - I think I got beaten up by most of the 2000ad universe before then. A brilliantly novel idea and enhanced by loads of glorious illustrations. I'm stuck at work till 8 so I'm going to have a few more goes to see what other outcomes there are. Fab.
This thread has rapidly become my official Favourite Thing About Christmas!
Fantastic, Van Dom. I had no idea what you were up to there....really chuffed to have taken part! :D
This is brilliant Van Dom!
I used to love these books, must...resist...urge...to....cheat!!
Chi
Fantastic. I got my perfect party. Is that Mike "Mr Christmas" Carol's Stogie? Brilliant! :D :D :o :D :D
See what did I tell you, VAN DOMINATION! Dirk my good man, you are an awesomeist. This has exceeded my wildest expectations, I knew it was gonna be big but didn't spect
labyrinthine. I have managed to see most of the pics now, though I must admit to a certain degree of cheating--- What!? It's traditional! Ian Livingstone knows all about it. Also thanks for not including any bits where we'd have to faff about with dice, I always hated those bits.

You old honeydripper, you. Your image was delicious as usual, I washed it down with my breakfast tea but now have indigestion due to it being so rich. If people haven't noticed by now, rest assured me and Owen have got a
thing going on....
Elsewhere Sharky's animation was mind-blowing eye candy of the highest order and the choice of music was suitably stirring. I loved it almost as much as his effort from last year, which I still rate as one of the most exciting things I ever did see. Also I support the calls for a Krill Tro Thargo for Mr Leahy,
not so exciting now Van Dom has revealed what they actually are
. What a nice guy, the spirit of xmas is strong in that one. Similarly Alski's beautiful balladeering brings a tear to the eye, it means so much to meeee. This thread and the board in general emanate goodwill and kindness, and this hungry lurkershark loves hanging around and leeching glee from you guys. Thanks for feeding the Ghost!
Merry Xmas everyone!
Wow - the choose your own adventure story is ARSOM. Sooo many droid hours for no reward!
Gah! I've attempted Van Dom's adventure five times now and died five seperate grisly deaths. :) I'm expecting many more before I puzzle out the right path.
Wow guys, thanks for all the kind words. I'm just glad you like it!
And Alski - yes, loooooooooots of droid hours, but reading all of these comments is more than enough reward for me (any my collaborators too, I'm sure).
Thanks guys!
Van Dom - Utterly Scrotnig!
I went out with Halo Jones!
you made a young Squaxx's dreams come true!!
Everyone's contributions have been so great.
Gimme a second & I'm going to try and do something, if I can....
Damn! How did you
pull Halo Jones? I only managed to cop off with Samantha Slade!
I pulled Sammy Slade as well - result! Halo is too much like hard work!
By the way, I have just done another song, although not a 2000AD based one, and here is the link if you think a Jam based attack on the X factor sounds like a good idea!

This thread is the real meaning of christmas!
Muchos kudos to Van Dom, you da man! :)
Merry christmas y'all!
Here's mine - better late than never...
... to everyone at 2000ad, and everyone on this message board!
Very nice Radiator. I want a whole strip of your Dredd in the prog, it's a unique style.
Yeah, that's lovely. There's something slightly Roger Landridge about your style, but it's very much your own.
Have lost track of this thread a bit lately, but contributions musical, artistic and Steve Jackson-ified have been really remarkable. So much enormous effort has gone into everyone's ideas and execution... what a great testament to the forum community.
PS: Have 'enjoyed the company' of three ladies so far in Van Dom's epic... tell me there's a way to pull Judge Anderson though!
Thats a Christmas cracker, if ever I saw one radiator. :D
Simply brilliant! I must admit as soon as I saw Radiator's name I was excited and I've been anxiously checking the board all day! I'm certainly not disappointed!
Cheers Radiator!
Beauty!
Wow!! Excellent radiator :P
Superb Radiator! Happy Christmas Tom, and a triffic 2011.
My bonus Xmas Eve pic
Have a good one guys
(http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn11/welshbluemeanie/peppers.jpg)
Oh... and that Dredd ROCKS Mr Radiator
The Dredd is ACE! Radiator.
BM - that must have taken ages! Nice idea too!
What a fantastic thread. Thanks everyone for warming up the dark, sub-zero mornings.
Merry-ness to all and this is respectfully dedicated ( with tongue very firmly in cheek) to all the boarders who are about to enjoy a sleep deprived 48 hours or so. Just keep saying "I can make it past Dr Who, then I can have a nap."
Daddy dear,
Is he making a list?
Is he checking it twice?
How does he know if I've been naughty or nice?
Can he walk through walls?
Does he have laser eyes?
How can he manage to eat all those mince pies?
How can such a fat man be nimble and quick?
Is his name really Santa or is it Saint Nick?
And how does he get reindeer to fly without being air-sick?
Does he live at the Pole?
Why does he wear a red coat?
If global warming gets worse, will he have to live in a boat?
Is he always so jolly?
Has he always been old?
Who delivers the presents, if he has the cold?
Has the job always been his?
Does he get a day off?
Why did he come early and hide presents in our loft?
Does he get all this stuff at eBay on-line?
With all this snow, will the postie deliver it on time...?
My dear child, that was all very well said,
It's all done by magic,
Now please fuck off to bed.
RADDDIAAAAAAAAAAATORRRRRR!!!
Great work everybody. If the forum were a human body, this thread would be the sexy bits.
Right then, I've been dead excited for this, fourteen lovely pro's have been generous enough to give their time up for us, many battling deadlines, illness and snow. So, I'm sure you'll join me in thanking each and every one of them!
So, in order of when I got 'em, here!
We'll kick off with good old Cat Sullivan who sent this lovely festive P14 within minutes of me contacting him...
Great! Next, the very lovely Nick Percival sent this beautiful digital painting. If you haven't checked out his Legends: The Enchanted graphic novel, you can buy it from Comixology for 2.99 and it's brilliant!
Next up, the ever wonderful PJ Holden sent this fan-bloody-tastic festive death picture. Simply wonderful!
King of cool design, Sinister Dexter artist Anthony Williams sent this veeeeery cool Finny and Ramone picture...
The ever-so-nice Boo Cook sent this beautiful illustration, I adore it!
I was delighted when 2000AD legend Steve Yeowell sent this beautiful Zenith sketch to my inbox...
The ever wonderful Jon Davis-Hunt sent this gem at four-frigging-thirty in the morning after fighting with a deadline! How kind is that!?!
The lovely Jon Haward posted this BRILLIANT picture and after a nervous week and a half it finally arrived on Monday - phew. It's absolutely gorgeous in the flesh!
On the same day, Patrick Goddard, the man who Pat Mills calls the new Brian Bolland, sent this belter - I can't believe I didn't make the connection between 'boarders' and Chopper before...
Another legend, Mr Mike Collins battled adversity in many forms to bring us this beauty. I heartfelt thanks to Mike as he really did go out on a limb to get it to us!
Yesterday, I received this fine image from Graeme Neil Reid, s'beautiful!
Then late last night, Inaki Miranda sent this. He'd kindly done it after just finishing another strip, and thanked the readers for being so kind about his work when he was at the start of his career. Thank YOU Inaki!
Aaaaand finally (for the images anyway) imagine my delight this morning when I awoke to have an email from none other than... King Carlos Ezquerra in my inbox!!! He's sent the absolutely wonderful image below and made Christmas come early for me, and I'm sure everyone else!
So there's the artists, thank you to each and everyone! I'll leave you with a brilliant festive song from the amazing Al Ewing...
"Behind the 24th door is obviously the birth of Grud, so here's a carol to celebrate.
Ding-dongs merrily on high
Were raging through Mega-City,
Christmas was the reason why
The people weren't sitting pretty
All the people disagreed, which deity to heed, which devotional creed, would satisfy their need, reaction was immediate - a rise in crime on Christmas.
Religion run by the state
Would lead to better behaviour
Many focus-groups debate
-d the name of the new saviour
"We need something that sounds grand, not too fresh or too bland, something they'll understand, the old familiar brand, but spun a little and relaunched - a brand new God for Christmas."
So by official decree
The Chief Judge soon persuaded
Those reluctant to agree
To worship a god mandated
And disseminated by, the judges from on high, by offering to try, and show the people why, they wouldn't like an iso-cube - thus Grud was born that Christmas."
Ha ha, excellent! That coulda been a Dredd strip!
Thanks to everyone who has posted or commented to this thread. It really shows what a brilliant community we have! I'll collect everything up for a 2010 Calendar Unplugged thread on Boxing Day so there's plenty of time to add stuff!
FANTASTIC!!!
Fantastic work there. Thanks for organising it all and thanks as well to all the artists for giving up their time and taking part.
Drokk me!
Those are fan-bloody-tastic!
What an absolutely lovely bunch of talented, generous people they are.
PJ, Davis Hunt and Goddard take the medals, but they're all brilliant.
Have a feeling that Zenith is going to cause quite a stir!!!
Great work here, Pete! Sad to see it come to an end, but at least we can look at/read/listen to all these wonderful entries over and over again!
That's a whole lot of arsom right there!
Wow! Officially the best thread on the interwebs now. Carlos is the master... look at that! Wonderful art and well done & thanks to Pete for organising this too.
WOW! Amazing stuff and a whole Gamut of emotions there then!
Very cool, thanks Pete and very many thanks to the hard working droids who took the time to entertain us all (yet again)!
MY HEART HAS MELTED LIKE THE SNOW
Aaaaaand, in the thread that just keeps on giving, the wonderful Dunk Nimmo, who is currently sunning himself away from the interweb, sent these ridiculously fantastic images for me to post today...
Firstly, an updated version of his wonderfully sexy Anderson...
Secondly, check out Dredd's naughtly list in this stunning pic!
Amazing!
[Emp edit: Fixing second image]
Not seeing a second pic there Pete, bracket missing maybe?
Fantastic pics and a cracking carol from the pros, Happy Christmas to you all and a scrotnig 2011!
Most of all though, thanks and festive well wishes to Pete Wells for organising another brilliant advent calender. Good on yer Pete!
No second pic for me either - MASSIVE FAIL - Christmas has been ruined, Wells, you bastard.
Actually no, what a treat and watch a great bunch of pros and indeed boarders - Grud love us, every one.
Wow, that's a stunning line up from the pros! PJ's and Carlos' are my favourites but they're all fantastic.
That brilliant second picture again...
Ha ha ha! Genius, Dunk!
Storming stuff from the pros too - thank you very much, guys!
Here's my contribution. Merry Xmas all. (Great minds etc...!)
I've held off from commenting until now because I want to say thanks to EVERYONE for contributing to this thread. Some posts have been poignant, some have been insane and some have been funny. Some have been all three.
You are such a talented bunch of bastards and I wish you
HAPPY GRUDMAS!!!
Cravenoir, that is brilliant. Great thinking, wonderful art.
This thread is beautiful! Well done all who've contributed, and especially Pete for getting all the pro work up!
My only contribution this year has been a picture to Van Dom's entry. For those who haven't stumbled upon it, here it is...
So much fantastic stuff it must be christmas! :)
Bloody Hell! Some absolutely stunning pieces from the creators!
Now my pifflingly easy effort, that took no talent whatsoever...
Stirling effort this year chaps; but the submission from Carlos brought a bit of a lump to me throat.
May all your xmas trees stay perpendicular!
M.
More fab last minute posts... and the very welcome return of Jim Campbell... now it really is f**king Christmas! Huzzahs!
JIM!!! CARLOS!!! What a Christmas Eve :D:D:D
Lovely work, chaps (and chappettes...?) :D
Ah, this thread's brought a tear to me old eye. It's nice to know us Earthlets aren't all warmongering, profiteering scumbags and that so many people stood ready, willing and able to donate so much talent and time to giving us this magnificent Advent Calendar. God bless us, every one!
In honour of this board, the lovely people who make it what it is and specifically for this very thread - a carol! All together now:
O Little Thread of Zarzazness
O little thread of zarjazness
Much skill we've seen here plied
Generosity enow to make me weep
Is piled up to the skies
And from this one thread shineth
The ever Twoothsome Light
That's been around for of all these years
Is with us all tonight
This love born of 2000AD
And gathered all above
While nonscrots sleep, the squaxx do keep
Their watch of Twoothy love
O morning stars together
Proclaiming joy and mirth
And praises sing to Tharg the King
And Peace to the 'lets of earth
How wondrously, how silently
These astounding gifts unfurled!
So Tharg imparts to human hearts
The thrill power of His world.
From Betelguese He came to us,
Into our world of sin,
Where discerning souls receive him still,
Zarjazness enters in.
O holy thread of zarjazness
We thank you and we say;
That Twoothy's light has entered in
To warm us all today
We see the board's fine angels
Giving scrotnig materiels
O thank you for this zarjaz thread
Our Lord the Great Pete Wells!
Have a great Christmas, everyone!
More Christmas Eve wonders! Lovely. And Happy Christmas Jim!
And a lovely little Christmas story. Virtually the moment I posted Dunk's brilliant pictures, the postie knocked on the door. He handed over a tube and was off.
I was sure all the pressies I'd ordered had came so, somewhat puzzled, I opened the tube...
And to my complete suprise and utter joy, out popped Dunk's original artwork for his advent threads - git big, lovely A3 artwork! I don't know how he got my address but I'm utterly, utterly thrilled! What a lovely gesture, what a lovely fella!
Here are the pix:

and

I've been gagging to post these all afternoon but have had a constant stream of visitors. I'm absolutely beaming, cheers Dunk!!!
ARSOM!!
Merry Xmas 2 All!!
Chi
Superb - fantastic work everyone.
Thanks to Pete for organising it again and really... we need a set of 2000AD Xmas cards don't we?
7 Hrs 4 minutes and counting and i havent got any idea what to draw at all...........
Fantastic work Dirk and everyone else who contributed, had a lot of fun reading through it, I got to do everything with Halo, score.
Always love your style Radiator.
As a big Beatles fan I fucking love that Blue, it's now my wallpaper.
Simply incredible, CraveNoir.
Great work Jim, good to see you back again.
Very cool, Mikey.
Nice one, Sharky.
To all the creators who have contributed, a very big thank you for taking the time to help make this such a fantastic place.
The biggest thank you goes to Pete, you are a pure legend.
Apologies if I left anyone out, ye are all great and I'm very hungover.
I asked this earlier in the thread, but is there any chance we could get all of the entries bundled together in their own thread a la the art competitions? Would be nice to see everything together without having to navigate through the whole thing.
Yep, Pete sad he will be doing it just after Christmas.
Wicked.
Flippy Neck!
Nice work as always Radiator. And Bluemeanie, thats just awesome. As for all the pros---wow wow wow wow wow. What else can you say??
Thanks to everyone for everything!
10-10 til we do it again!!!
What an incredible thread, and undoubtedly the best Advent Calendar ever. Thank you all so very much for almost a month of fun and anticipation.
This thread is officially the most arsom thread ever created!
Please allow me to now drag the level of quality down a few notches with this rushed, feeble effort...
Have a good one, fellow squaxx! :)
Wow! This is really stunning, and Jim's back!
Merry Christmas everyone!
Awesome thread, well done all. If you are anything like me, this might still be useful?

A bit late but here's my rushed(spent to much time on spot the thrill and party crasher) Christmas Eve piece.

MERRY XMAS ALL!
Wow. So much amazing stuff. This is as far as I got with mine. (This is not me up early, it's me up late). If you never hear from me again it's because I have been struck down by lightning for this. Merry Xmas.

Fantastic Woolly.
Looks great and may come in useful NeilFord.
Nice one, Peter. Good to see you got it finished.
Horrifyingly brilliant, flip.
Very cool, Deever.
Great to see it finished, SuperSurfer.
Good one, Kerrin.
Kerrin, I nearly choked on my malteseres at that!
My final contribution to this calender, as it's been absolutely brilliant... In honour of all the excellent work put in by everyone, and the kind comments from everyone else:
Merry Christmas, and I'm toasting all your health(s?) with a long-held ambition, a Piston Broke! (See this (http://www.2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,30954.0.html) for details.)

My youth has finally rolled over and died forever.
Whoa, yeah, nice jumper Jayzus!
That Piston Broke looks evil, FOUR measures of booze topped up with stout?! JAYZUS CHRIST!
Have to admit it's only about three shots and the Guinness, I pussed out by a third.
Hey guys, I gotta go and vist some relatives for a coupla days. The unplugged Advent thread will be done when I get back.
Apologies, it'll be up before New Years Eve.
SPOT THE THRILL - THE RESULTS!The red-wine hangover has just about subsided enough that looking at a screen doesn't actually hurt, so here are the full results, and mighty impressive they were. I awarded quite a few half points, e.g. for spotting the Dredds but not the story.
In 8th place, notwithstanding the effects of alcohol and a noble refusal to cheat by looking anything up, was
Exilewood with a still very respectable
68.5 (including a half for "
The sheep thing. inspector baa something. OH FUCK. What was it called?" In 7th place, it's the Paisley Penpusher himself,
Buttonman with
73.5, closely followed by
Albion on
74 and
Kerrin with
76I didn't expect anyone to get more than 90% but amazingly the top four all achieved it. In fourth place and just outside the medal table is
Greg M with an impressive
92. And now mounting the podium to be sprayed with champagne are....
*drum roll please*...
:geek: In third place, step forward
Colin YNWA with a stunning
97.5!
:geek: Taking the silver medal (if I was actually giving out medals, which I'm not) is
flip-r mk2 with a near-perfect
98.
:geek: But the winner with a mind blowing score of
99.5 out of 100, is our new King Geek
CRAVENOIR!
Even more impressive, he included the prog numbers, for which I almost awarded an extra point, but that would have made the score more than 100% which I couldn't allow! I was forced to be super pedantic and only award half a point for SOUL GUN ASSASSIN as the correct answer was SOUL GUN WARRIOR, but the rest was perfect. If Cravenior PMs me his name and address, I'll get that page of Macneil loveliness in the post to him.

Congratulations to the big three medal winners, and especially Cravenoir for his frankly astonishing grasp of thrill-lore. And may I lead the forum in a round of applause for Dandontdare, both for his fiendish ingenuity in coming up with such a brilliant quiz and his clear generosity in terms of prize-giving. Jolly good show all round, chaps!
(On a personal note, I am amazed I beat the 90% barrier. Assumed I would be around 80%. Bloody number 21 though... Pussyfoot 5! I might've known...)
Welldone all who took part, congratulations Cravenoir for a near perfect score and major round of applause for Dandontdare for all the hard work putting it all together.
MACH Zero and Night Run were the two that I spent late nights and fitful sleep trying and failing to get.

The only way (j)I can articulte my response..

I'll echo that. It was great fun to play and Cravenoir is the very deserving reciever of a fantastically generous offer of a wonderful page. Well done Dandontdare one of my favs
SOUL GUN WARRIOR....AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHH!
That 0.5% will haunt me forever.
This challenge was BRUTAL, but temptingly achievable. Thank God it was restricted to the weekly, and each strip was only represented once except for the six Dredds. There weren't any Future Shocks or smilar one-offs... which would've been nice to know at the start! But those constraints helped, as once Dredd, Dante, Sin-Dex, Rogue Trooper, Robo-Hunter, Slaine, and Nemesis were eliminated the field was cut down considerably.
It helped to have a good feel for the art styles and a rough sense of the era in 2000ad's history. I'd got 89 of them the first day, but it took a couple more sessions to nail the remainder. I couldn't rest until I'd got them all, and probably spent close to 16 hours on the task.
Colin YNWA and flip-r mk2, I salute you. :)
Thank you, DDD, for putting together a very well thought out challenge, and for torturing me and anyone else with a personality disorder. I had (mostly) a lot of fun, learned a few things, and doubtless would've done it if the prize had been two kicks up the arse.
Oh, and the original art is from part 5 of Tour of Duty. page 3, Prog 1664!!
Congratulations Crave!
And cheers again to DDD for setting such an entertaining challenge, great fun. I've been reading through the answers, and to be honest I'm chuffed to have got as many as I did...thanks Barney.
Haha not last - loooser!
In fact I got them all although perhaps not in the right order.
Well done Crave, an OCD feat that even I can only marvel at - next year it's letter snippets and all bets are off!
NOOOOOO!!! I spent yesterday afternoon ignoring my family and trawling through a good 150 Progs to fill in a few blanks and had the same thing pencilled in for today. It's really bizarre how some of those obsure panels (the Night Zero and Tyranny Rex ones, for example) have stuck in the mind.
Not sure what my current score would be. It's certainly better than Buttonman's but not in the same league as CraveNoir. Chapeau, sir. Hats off to DDD for setting it up in the first place and to everyone else who's contributed to the advent calendar.

well you can take that to the bank. On an unrelated note I could've pumped Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox last night but chose to wash my hair instead. That counts too using The Cosh's scoring system. Hurrah!
Yes, by golly. Well done that man for an astonishing score. And all the other entrants too. But I'm still quite pleased with myself - as DDD pointed out, I compiled my entry hammered, at about 5 in the morning with no recourse to any research!
and now for one last final surprise which may please some people on this board
