I have it on reliable source that Dredd 3D will see home video release on DVD and Blu-ray (and probably Blu-ray 3D) come January 22nd. It was advanced announced to retailers, though no official announcement has been made yet.
This is also probably a US street date, so I don't know when it will arrive in the UK. Probably around the same time.
Good news, can't wait to abuse that....new TV might be in order.
That's a tuesday. I think in the US DVDs are released on Tuesdays but in the UK it's a Monday.
Is that a worldwide release date? Otherwise I'll have to wait until Feb to get my sweaty, greasy, little mitts on a copy.
Almost a pity they couldn't get it out mid-December, for a Christmas rush, but then I guess some places will still be showing the movie around then.

Nice, I cannot wait to own this film. If we get a swanky edition all the better.
Or...
I was being noesy looking through an Entertainment Reps files in work today. They had a briefing on new releases up until christmas and he was running off the main events such as TDKR and talking about the massive pallets we're going to be getting in and boring stuff like that.
There were 4 or 5 titles for Dec 24th Dredd's cover was the one that stuck out. Of course little birdy might wrong as we know dates are always subject to change.
This stuffs all confidential of course, so if anyone asks don't tell them it was me

Used to be manager at Blockbuster, popped down to check the system, nothing has come up with the dates suggested, usually the system is spot on, we had WiiU games on there before they where announced. Spotted The Sweeney release date ( which has not been announced either ) but not Dredd, there is not even a placeholder in the system yet. So take this with a pinch of salt with the January thing.
I think they should really push for December as I don' think January would be a good time for sales as everyone will have just bought loads of crap for Christmas.
January is a good time for release too. Lots of people with gift cards and granny money.
Oh yeah that's true. Still, better to get in on the Christmas sales too, surely.

Think you are both right! Get it out a week or two before Xmas, shift a load of copies, and in January hopefully there'll be a second wave of good sales as people start using up those gift vouchers!

Avengers was 5 months so it's probably a little sooner than average, but dates will shift around holidays.
I'd say the Avengers is the exception to the rule; I agree with Teivion that 3 - 4 months for a film to be released is pretty normal. It's one reason I think very carefully about going to the cinema these days. It's always in my mind that rather than paying £20 for myself & my wife to get through the front door, I could just wait a few months to buy the film for a lesser price and be able to watch it over and over again in the comfort of my own home. Obviously I did go and see Dredd though - and it was well worth the money!

Touch and go with Amazon and Play.com. I have had stuff before, on and after the release date. You takes your choice!
Three months? >:(
Ill be waiting for it to land in the shops, i think.
As long as you go for 1st class postage, you usually get it on the day of release from Amazon. Then again, I wouldn't want to make any promises on their behalf.

You're all wrong! Some guy's just posted on IMDB that Dredd won't be released on home video until August of next year. Of course he's getting his information from Wal-Mart's US site, which uses month/day/year date formatting ... Also on Amazon, slightly cheaper on there as well. Looks to be a 2 disc set? (3D disc, and 2D disc).
No cover image at this stage though.
Think ill wait and see whats what, before ordering. More than likely ill buy it in from the high street, on the day.
Probably be out on video before it is released in Belgium. They have the release date here of 21st November now :-(
I'm waiting - most genre films seem to have an exclusive edition or two - Play.com and HMV especially. Will definitely go for a collector's edition, even if it's just alternative packaging.
I've pre-ordered on Amazon, if somewhere else offers a better edition I'll cancel that though.
Looks like we have a lock on the packaging.

The Blue Ray will give you the option of 3D or standard Blue Ray. But as I have a 3D TV then best of both worlds.

The original dark poster is damn good and I'm unsure as to the reason why they've changed it?
I don't think it is dodgy photography as they've thrown in a flare effect to the side of the gun.
They've went to a lot of trouble to make a cool poster look really bad and unfortunately it looks to be genuine!!

I was about to say the special editions usually come out straight away but maybe I'm wrong. I tend to buy DVDs after they've been out for a bit and don't recall ever buying anything off the chart shelf. Perhaps it also depends on who's releasing them though.
*sigh*
I really hate Entertainment in Video as of their VHS lack of subtitles and most of DVD as well... lucky Lords of the Rings got subtitle, really hope Dredd 3D will be subtitled as disappointed with lack of subtitled screen of Dredd! Like 95 % of all other official DVD/Blu-ray covers, that one is hideous. This is why I use custom covers for ALL my Blu-ray's and DVD's, the official covers just aren't up to par. It's as if the studios try topping each other in making the lamest, most generic looking covers possible!
Maybe I'll use Jock's poster as the basis for my custom cover.
The criterion collection should do a release of this film in a couple of years. I am not sure what their exact selection process is, but being independent and somewhat of a cult film I think that would count. Oh and really good too.
I assumed the minging green sky and general oversaturation of the reds and oranges on the Dredd cover was due to colour profile issues you sometimes get with online images, but looking at it again it does look like someone (not the original artist) has dicked around with the poster image, including adding the stupid flare(?) on the side of the gun.

Wow, that is dedication. I created my own Star Wars sleeves last year, just for a bit of fun really (and because the SW covers are always so fugly). I may do something similar for Dredd:

Very nice mondo posters, those are some awesome covers!
I could be wrong, but it looks like you've printed them on normal A4 paper?
I print mine on a Canon printer set specifically for the Canon Semi Gloss photo paper I use.
No way to tell the difference between my covers and the official ones as far as paper and print quality goes.

No, professionally printed on high quality roughly textured heavy paper - it's what I print most of my work on. Looks and feels beautiful and is far better than anything you could get out of a commercial desktop printer. Photos don't quite do it justice admittedly!
Anyone willing to design up an alternative cover for us to use instead?
It would be nice for some of the artists who frequent the boards here to design one up barring no copyright issues.

"Dredd" featurette
"Dredd's Gear" featurette
"The 3rd Dimension" featurette

Seriously? Has anyone, anywhere ever - in the whole of recorded history - ever bought a DVD because of a quote on the box? Doesn't everyone treat them the same way as quotes on cinema posters, i.e. they all manage to find something celebratory to say so you can't trust any of them.
As far as I'm concerned quotes on the cover spoil it for me. Plus, if I was wandering around HMV I wouldn't go, 'look at that film, some unknown twat says it's awesome, I must buy it!' Does it work on anyone?

Erm... I can be a bit of a sucker for blurb on a box, but only if it comes from sources I trust. If it had been the Guardian, the Independent, or maybe even the Telegraph or the Times, it might prompt me to pick up the box and have a closer look. I'm aware it's a marketing ploy, so although I am influenced by it, I still apply the 'buyer beware' maxim.
If the quote comes from a review from the Sun, Mirror, Star, Sport, Daily Mail or any other cruddy tabloid I ignore it completely. A bit snobbish, I know, but heigh ho. ;)
It's a shame the quote on the Dredd box is from the Sun. I guess they're hoping it'll appeal to a certain demographic. ::)
I like box quotes when you can tell they're really reaching, when you can tell they're selectively misquoting.
I also like it when they plaster the poster with FOUR star reviews as if to say "this film is pretty good! It's not amazing, we know, but its not bad!".i
I don't think it's snobbish at all to say that tabloid quotes aren't worth a shit. I'm also often a bit suspect about the likes of Empire. Generally fair, but they've given some right old crap glowing reviews in their time.
Quote from: radiator on 16 November, 2012, 10:22:55 AM

and you can(t) quote me on that (http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2007/aug/18/2)
"I didn't enjoy the first instalment of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, giving it only two stars, but conceded that it was 'technically stunning'. Of course, on the poster, it simply read 'Stunning - The Guardian'.
Well my point was that this film being good will come as a surprise to a lot of people, and considering they are using quotes why not really go for it? If someone saw that dvd colour with the odd colouring and just the word awesome from Alex Zane it's probably not gonna make them spend £10-£15 to just check it out.
If they saw the dvd cover plastered in positive quotes (I also thought it made the poster look a bit better), it might peak their curiosity. They have to keep trying to show people this is actually a really good movie and the cover isn't really doing that in my opinion.
I may have to break my promise of never buying a blu ray film if all those juicy extras are not on the DVD.

Very cool
Ah that is nice. You have talent, sir.
Thanks. The grey tones still need a fair bit of polishing I think. Might go back to the red version, and perhaps try overlaying a bit if texture or something. I previously had a glowy, paint-splatter kind of effect on the logos in a nod to Slo mo, might revisit that.
I've always struggled with digital art, in the way that its so easy just to endlessly tinker and experiment, especially when it comes to stuff like this.
Great stuff there Radiator!
Its probably already been suggested, and its easy for me to say this, especially as ive got as much artistic talent as a flea, but it would be great to have a cover like this (and arent others working on designs as well?) produced, and available to download.

Something I've been kicking around today - work in progress for a custom Dredd Blu Ray/DVD sleeve. Needs a fair bit of work still, keep changing the colours around, was all red originally:
Love the trout-pout.
That is amazing! Love the font.
Radiator, You have your first download guaranteed from me. Very cool!
radiator
love your cover and its not finished yet keep it up
Any chance the 2000ad bods could give away a series of alternative BluRay/DVD covers for the forthcoming release of the film with the Prog?
Maybe a selection from the comic's most iconic Dredd artists and including that Jock Mondo poster, seeing as it looks that a BluRay steel book is off the cards.

But with Cass and Joe in more of a buddy-stance, and Ma-Ma instead of Lo Pan. Motorbike chase to the left, crooked judges on the right and slomo-glitter all over. A pic that would work as a flipper game background ;)
blue ray +DVD please
