JUDGE DREDD FUNKO UNIVERSE: ONE SHOT (https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/02/17/idw-launch-funko-comic-books-ghostbusters-tmnt-x-files-strawberry-shortcake-judge-dredd-announced-comicspro/)
I've read the article and I still have no idea what it means so I'm not going to comment on this news.
JUDGE DREDD: FUNKO UNIVERSE
John Layman (W), Francesco Gaston (A), Rob Schwartz (C), Photo (VC), Francesco Gaston (VC). Check out the funkiest Dredd of all-time as Funko takes over Mega-City One! Perps like Judge Death and the Angel Gang may strike fear in the hearts of citizens, but Judge Dredd is here to stop them! And he may be cute but never forget -- HE IS THE LAW!
That looks stupid.
So this is why Layman can't deliver on last issue of Judge Dredd and AvP crossover?

I take your point, but I wouldn't compare Funko to Lego (or Dredd to Batman).
A 'Steve Green Lego Movie' would probably make a few million profit.
It'd be surprising if this wasn't the worst selling Dredd comic of all time.
I can see IDW's reasoning though.
Funko is popular, I expect you get people who collect Funko figures because it's Funko, rather than being a fan of the IP.
So that might bleed over into the comics side of things.
It's a one-shot so it's not like they're committing to an ongoing series.
Hey, we had Dredd having a 2000AD party on the moon, and replacing Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz story.
I'm guessing the 'red lines' on IP is a little more flexible on the comics front compared to licensing movies, TVs or games.
I quite like Layman's writing, so I'm sure I'll pick it up.
It's just 'chibi-Dredd' with Funko branding. Ultimately harmless if not your bag.

I'll take the opposite tack, and expect it to be one of the better selling IDW Dredd comics. This Funko stuff seems to be exploding at the moment.
Now why didn't I think of that?
I had never heard of Funko before but bought this for "completeness sake".
How bad could it be, right?
Well I have just read it and basically, I probably shouldn't have bothered. On the plus side it didn't take very long.

Guessing you've never set foot inside of a Forbidden Planet shop then. :P
Sure I do, but I generally head straight for the 2000AD section. I preferred how they used to be back in the day, before they became a "mega store". I prefer shops like Orbital that only sell comics and GNs and not toys.
If I do look at the toys in FP it is usually only Star Wars stuff for my son.
So yeah I had managed to remain unaware of Funko until now.

You must have a better selection in your local Forbidden Planet than I do, cos the ones nearest to me are pretty much 50% Funko figures these days. :P
My "local" FP is Shaftesbury AV. It's toys, clothes and posters on the ground floor, books, comics and GNs in the basement. So I generally head straight to the basement, ignoring the stuff on the ground floor.
I actually enjoyed it. it was fun in a lego batman type way and i had a good laugh at the fate of the funko dark judges. And I am sure it'd appeal to a lot of kids. I got my Dredd funko pop signed by Wagner a few weeks ago
