Just as they did with Star Wars comics Marvel have now got the rights for comics relating to the Aliens and Predator franchises. I guess this means a couple of things:
- Hopefully Drak Horse will have an insanely good sale when their contract ends as they did with Star Wars
Loads of Marvel characters while fight nasties I guess
Wonder what happens with Dredd vs Alien and Dredd vs. Predator etc etc.

We've never had a Marvel 2000AD production before - maybe that will change in the future...
*ha*
I got wondering what crossovers Batman had had with Marvel characters (inspired by the Batman vs Aliens/Predator/Dredd stories in the past) and look what image this article used at the top (https://ifanboy.com/articles/dc-histories-batman-intercompany-crossovers/).
So now Aliens/Predator will become part of the Marvel-verse. How boring
Wow! What happened? Did they simply outbid Dark Horse over rights renewal?
Does this mean that all former AVP stories are now considered non canon like former Dark Horse Star Wars stories?

Apparently Disney now own Fox, who own Alien and Predator - that's what I got from the article anyway. So really they've just been waiting for Dark Horse current deal to lapse I guess.
ah right I didn't know that pal. That probably explains it.
Just read about this over at CBR, where there's some lovely David Finch promo art:

The various DC crossovers throughout the years were mostly good fun, so here's hoping the inevitable Avengers Vs Alien Vs Predator is on that level.
A little bit of me is sad that Dark Horse have lost the licence, though: they mostly did the franchises right, especially the early minis, which really helped to put DH and, by extension, indie comics, on the map for a lot of people back in the late 80s.
Fond memories of Aliens #1 and Predator #1 coming out.
Sigh. I'm old.
I just feel sorry for Dark Horse: Star Wars, Conan, Aliens, Predator... what next?
Still, at least I suppose this now GUARANTEES a Conan/ Predator face-off- which Dark Horse oddly never did but which Marvel surely wont be able to resist?

Judge Dredd vs Punisher?
Ulysses Sweet vs Deadpool?
Lobster Random vs Wolverine?
Robo-Hunter vs Iron Man?
Immortal Hulk vs Zombo?
Spidey in Mega City One?
Sinister Dexter take the hit on Howard The Duck?

If, as seems to be the case, Disney are trying to mop up all the existing Fox licenses and get them under the Marvel banner, that would seem to bode ill for BOOM's Buffy and Firefly books. I'll confess to not having read the Buffy stuff, but it's consistently well-reviewed, and the Firefly ongoing is excellent.
It's a good thing that DH still make Hellboy comics, otherwise they'd be in real trouble right now.
Losing Usagi Yojimbo was quite a surprise. (I'm also unconvinced IDW is the right home for that property, but there you go.)

They lost Buffy and Angel too to Disney/Boom!
The current Scott Allie attention isn't going to help Hellboy/BPRD either.
If I was a betting man,I would say Predator vs Wolverine is happening. Or whoever is on every cover these days.

To be fair IDW have done wonders for some stuff they have brought in... well I'm talking about Corto Maltese aren't I really!
I find IDW variable. They made a horrible mess of classic-era Transformers, spending the least amount possible on some abhorrent remastering, and making baffling design decisions on the UK material (that ended up getting canned anyway). The one thing they do very well at least is collected volumes. The question with Usagi Yojimbo is what—if anything—they will do in the HC world. My hope would be volumes that would sit nicely alongside the Dark Horse special editions. But they may end up going their own way. (Also: Usagi in colour doesn't entirely sit right with me. I get that it's a new era and all, but I loved Sakai's B+W work.)
Pretty soon all comics will be Taco Bell. ::)

Not pretty soon all comics will be Wolverine vs Taco Bell.
A cursory glance on eBay shows that people are suddenly paying silly money for some of the early DH Aliens/Predator/Terminator minis.
No idea why the prices have shot up like they have - surely not connected to the recent news?

Never under estimate the strangeness of the speculator market!
Wise words, Colin!

Guess I should prioritize getting PREDATOR VS JUDGE DREDD VS ALIENS collection before someone realizes 2000 AD is still selling it.
I just listed the four Alien Predator HC books put out by Hachette on eBay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/te08/m.html?item=114358415695&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562) if anyone is interested. 99p starts.

I don't know what the mods think of links like this on this thread, but there's certainly a buying and selling section on the forum that you can also post it to.

That could be a good story....

Predator the Original Years omnibus vol 1 - just announced.
https://www.cbr.com/marvel-comics-alien-series-early-2021/
And so it begins.
Larocca on art - gotta be worth a look.
Funnily enough I'm going to be reading a load of the Dark Horse stuff I got on sale digitall, later on this month. I'm really looking forward to seeing what that's like. As I recall the early stuff was a bit hit and miss and I have cherry picked what I bought based on creators involved.
So it will be interesting to see how I think the Aliens world works in comics and that may well determine whether I decide to give this a go as I'm not really familar with either creators work.
Cherry picking is most certainly the way to go, Colin - Dark Horse put out a lot of Aliens comics.
Personally, I always loved the first two runs and the first AvP mini, but there's plenty more out there that is well worth a read.
Any recommendations? I've picked up
First four (I think it is) stories - up to Female War (which used to be called Earth War?)
Stuff by Wagner, Milligan, Gibbons and Mignola, Edginton, something call Apocolayse (not sure why I went for that one specifically?) - Mark Schulz probably, Stronghold - again not sure why exactly. Some stuff with Kelley Jones art (which I think I might of had back in the day), Some Dabnett stuff with art by Moritat (very much looking forward to that).
Finally I have the Brian Wood stuff but I'm not reading that this time out - that's somewhere down the line.
Anything to be recommended apart from that?
Your list looks spot on to me Colin!
The only additions off the top of my head would be the Colonial Marines 12 parter, even though it's a bit wobbly in parts, and the 2 Mondo stories, which are just daft fun.
There was an interesting compilation of Aliens stories that had a weird one in there where Ripley goes back to Earth and it turns out the space jockey pilot people are trying to terraform it.
I was a big fan of the Dark Horse stuff but after a while it got very samey. Mad professor/general/whatever thinks he can use the aliens for science/war/whatever. Anything that shined new light on how the aliens behave was interesting though.
Newt's Tale was a fantastic retelling of Aliens from her perspective.
I never read Newt's Tale as I was super pissed off with Alien 3!
That's true about the whole "mad doctor/scientist/whatever wanting to control aliens" thing - used a lot during the DH run -
even as early as book 2
.
As for Predator - I re-read the first mini DH did and it's still very solid stuff...and wow, Predator 2 REALLY did rip it off!
I've just picked up some extras in a new Dark Horse Aliens sale - Got the Colonial Marines series you mentioned for 79p! Was listed as a single issue in error. Sam Keith book I must have missed first time and a Gabriel Hardmann book. Alien Predator Omnibus 1 (for first series I remember liking) A couple of screenplay books (Dan O'Bannon original and Aliens 3 William Gibson).
Whole lot for £25 - so happy with that.
Started reading these and to be honest I didn't enjoy the first trilogy as much as I remember (so that's Outbreak, Nightmare Asylum and Female War) and had to slog my way through them.
Apocoloypse by Mark Schultz was okay and looked great. Frenzy by our own John W was pretty good, though would really of benefited from a better artist.
So far this has all made for some choppy reading. Still some big name creators to come so remain optimistic...
Exactly, Colin - like the Predator and (to a lesser extent, Terminator) stories - there were so many of them the quality really does vary wildly.
