...as it sez on the tin, but with a small twist, i mean cartoon characters you love, say fo mannerisms aswell as there iconic look, you'd possibly buy merchandise with them on but rarely watch them on t.v or read their comic,...
...mine are. Tigger, Marvin the Martian, Muttley, Hagar the Horrible, Bananaman and Scooby Doo...
ren hoek, secret squirrel, all the whacky racers, snoopy, g-force and vicky the viking
Duck Dogers/Daffy duck, Wile E. Coyote, Dexter (and his lab), Johnny Bravo, Foghorn Leghorn... I say... Foghorn Leghorn, Tom Cat (wish he'd get that mouse), Top Cat, Hong Kong Phooey!
Samurai Jack is clearly best.
Samurai Jack = lovely goodness.
My personal prefernces are; Danger Mouse, Wile E Coyote, Inspector Gadget, Space Ghost, Count Duckula, Bugs Bunny, Scooby Doo and Shaggy, and The Simpsons. And Futurama. Ooh, and Bananaman. And Invader Zim. And Bounty Hamster.
I'll stop now. :)
Samurai Jack, Dr Nick Riviera (Simpsons), Bender (Futurama), Yosemite Sam from the old Bugs Bunny shorts, and Tom, from Tom and Jerry (before someone thought to tailor them for kids, obviously).
Honourable mention for Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star. Anyone who can out-kickbox a tank, an aircraft carrier, and Satan is okay in my book.
each worm jim and rocko's modern life, i'd watch them if i could
I like Sponge Pants Bob, but have never seen the cartoon. I quite like Hamutaro merchandise, but hope I never have to sit through another hamutaro movie
Link: the horror, the horror
well saddly i'm too olde to have any knowledge of cartoonies from the recent decades, all of which i would no doubt approve of;
a few years back there was one, where the baddie was a meglomaniac bitch, with possibly a spider costumey face? purple/black clothes? she tended to say "and sooon all of te gold in the world will me MINeeeee WHAAAA HAAAA HAAAA !" She rocked.
whos vicky the viking ? she sounds rather coooel.
tom n jerry.
road runner, the cayote bloke.
mutley & crew.
dexter & his lab.
jessie james, team rocket ( are here to blast into space!) from pokemon... they were so excellently pathetic & camp (meglomaniacs).
johnny bravo.
thers a few i hate;
donald f*ck
shitty mouse
pluto
rugrats
thornberries are pretty irriating
Choo Choo from Top Cat.
Bender from Futurama.
Daffy Duck from the early days - when he was basically just a f**king nutcase. Before he got all sanitised and cleaned up.
Captain Caveman.
The Anthill Mob.
actualy timone & pumba had their moments...
i can't stand pointless manic characters like the mask. bugs bunny is a bit of a git too.
It has to be Scooby Doo. He's the greatest and little 'un has got into him too. Gives me an excuse to watch and buy merchandise. It's not for me!
Hong Kong Fooey is pretty cool to as is Dangermouse. Though i used to love his sidekick who's name escapes me right now. Hey Baroni!
Samurai Jack, Gossamer, Marvin the Martian, Scooby and the gang...erm.....Totoro.
I also can't get enough of Rocket Robin Hood which they are showing on the cartoon network over here in Canada...it's soooooo bad.
Cheers,
Adam
Madgirl: Penfold
my faves
the warner bros come out tops for me.
TAZ,daffy and bugs, being top.
pinky and the brain very underated.
and i never trun down a clasic tom and jerry.
dicl dastardley and mutley though i think take the prize.for their roles in catch the pigeon and whacky races.

Sam & Max. Steve Purcell is a genius.
I used to have Sam and Max hit the road game, where they have to a girrafe necked girl and find a big foot, never been able to see a full episode on tv.
oh, and earth worm Jim too, I think that's the cartoon with the evil bitch spider catapillar woman was in as well, Bou- I remember one episode (showing how old it is) where she was saying that Val Kilmer (the then current movie batman) had nothing on the camp tv batman.
Hello everyone, I have recently put a sort of competition thing for fans on my website, it would be great if you good people good be part of this.
What it is, is thing where you send me fan art and fan tales, and all the best stuff will appear on the site. It would be really great if you people could take part, the site is below.
www.dredd.00sf.com
vicky the viking was an old cartoon...it concerned the adventures of a Viking boy called Vicky and his fellow Vikings. All the characters lived in a village called Flake which lies somewhere on the coastal regions of Norway or Sweden. and is centralised on Vicky who is not a brave, fierce, strong Viking like his father but is a small boy who always relies on thinking through a problem before applying the correct solution. This would often infuriate his father Chieftain Halva of village Flake. In fact it is remarkable the rest of the Vikings had lasted so long without Vicky's help. Many of the Vikings adventures end in triumph due only to the quick thinking of Vicky. Without his help the entire male population of Flake would have spent the rest of their days either as slave or chained up in some deep castle dungeon.
and I forgot to mention one of the greatest cartoons ever...
THE TICK!!
Anyone ever see Undergrads? That is foooking brilliant.
Animaniacs, Top Cat, Bugs Bunny, The Simpsons Dexters Lab
He's my favorite movie star, so I've got to love the cartoon...
Oopps!
Let's try this
Space Ghost!
I'm agreeing wholeheartedly with Sam&Max and Earthworm Jim.
And obviously 1980s Transformers.
Visionaries.
Biker Mice From Mars. And that Cosgrove Hall one with Biker Penguins.
Toxic Crusaders
jessie james, team rocket ( are here to blast into space!) from pokemon... they were so excellently pathetic & camp (meglomaniacs). bless their hearts, they were the best thing about pokemon....:)
anyone here seen Big O....that is fecking brilliant....
oh my god! biker mice from mars! i had forgotton all about that! an toxic crusaders....and bucky o'hare...and the turtles......sigh...happy memories......

Dunno, but they ought to outlaw woody woodpecker, the little fuck.
Enjoyed the Space Ghost chat show a lot. The original cartoon was magic pants with bells on.
More:
Sharky and George
Jason and the Wheeled Warriors
Being a child in the late 80s/early 90s ruled.
No really cartoons, but well missed:
H.R. Puffenstuff. Sigmund the Seamonster, Land of the Lost (the original), Dr. Shrinker, Power Woman and Dyna Girl, The Bugaloos, Far Space Nuts, The Lost Saucer, and Wonder Bug.
Critter
Daffy Duck from the early days - when he was basically just a f**king nutcase. Before he got all sanitised and cleaned up. Hoo Hoo! Hoo Hoo!
Ren Hoek the real talent in the Ren & Stimpy partnership (Think Morcombe & Wise)
Sylvester the Cat (you're dithpicable) I pray for the day he catches Tweety and plays/tortures him cat-like before devouring his intestines.
Dexters Lab. You are steeupid, you are steeupid and do not forget... you are steeupid.
Felix the Cat. More surreal than Canadian street theatre and with a bag of Tardis like proportions.
Rex the Runt. His sidekick Vince married a mail order hoover... and had a Vince/hoover hybrid. Do you need any more convincing?
Betty Boop. She's a cartoon, but you would, wouldn't you.
Rocko's Modern Life. He has a dog called Spunky who had a relationship with a mop (what is it with cartoon dogs and cleaning equipment?) and a friend called Heffer who is a cow, but is also clearly male.
Samurai Jack. Kids shouldn't be allowed to watch this. It's too good for them.
Willo the Wisp. A fat fairy named Mavis, an intellectual snobby cat called Carwash, a caterpillar called Arthur who builds a chrysalis out of planks and a television set that's an evil witch. No competition whatsoever.
"And that Cosgrove Hall one with Biker Penguins"
Avenger Penguins!
It may interest approximately no-one, but Grud is working with Cosgrove Hall on a new toon, and I met the guys partially responsible for that classic! Bonkers.
And I agree, Space Ghost Coast to Coast is far better than the original series.
"I'm fonda Fonda...Bridgette Fonda".
Pinky and the Brain (NARF!)
Scooby doo
Dexter's lab
Cow and chicken
Team rocket
earthworm jim
dangermouse
johnny bravo
Bucky o hare had the best theme tune!
In another dimension, another time and space,
A parallel universe was fallin' on its face
When out of the chaos, who else could it be
But the animal adventurers from S.P.A.C.E.?
Bucky! Captain Bucky O'Hare!
Mutants and aliens and toads beware!
You're looking for adventure? Well, this is it,
With Jenny, Deadeye, Blinky, and Willy DuWitt
I said Bucky! Captain Bucky O'Hare!
?And now, an update on Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars!?
In the battle of the aniverse, you don't know what's next,
You only know amphibians have made it KOMPLEX!
When you check out your scanner and the evil that it bodes,
There's only one course of action: Let's croak us some toads!
Bucky! Captain Bucky O'Hare!
He goes where no ordinary rabbit would dare!
If your Righteous Indignation has suffered a hit
And your photon accelerator's broken a bit
And you're losing your mind, and you're having a fit
Get the funky fresh rabbit who can take care of it!
Bucky! Captain Bucky O'Hare!
You say Bucky? I said Bucky!
Bucky O'Hare!
Let's croak us some toads!
as cool as it was, looking back bucky seems evil....

Ren and Stimpy, anyone?
"and one which I cant remember the name of but was about a cowboy who had the abilities of different animals and had a robot horse"
That was Bravestar! "Speed of a puma, strength of a bear!"
How come I can remember that but not quote passages of Shakespeare to 'woo' the 'laydeez', or remember to put my trousers on before going off to work? Gah!!
"Ren and Stimpy, anyone?" Yes please, though it never seems to be on these days. (Foxkids,Cartoon network, etc take note- believe it or not there are cartoons out there that don't involve psuedo-mythical japanese characters who can inexplicably fly, invoke monsters from a pack of crap playing cards and have big spiky haircuts). Other faves are old Tom and Jerry and old Pink Panther show, before they were made PC or had speech/canned laughter added. Wile E Coyote, why is this never on dammit! Whenever an old toon is on it's always Bugs fecking Bunny- the smug long eared git! Bring back Wile E (riding an ACME rocket sledge) NOW! Honourable mention must also go to Beavis and Butthead, though their antics are uncomfortably close to those of mine and my best mate when we were about 13 yrs old. Oh, and yes PVS. Woody Woodpecker, how many generations has this unfunny twat managed to annoy I wonder.Feed him to Tom and Sylvester now please someone.
Yours insomniacly Jim.
The ones I admire as merchandisable properties: Dexter's Lab, Scooby Doo, Marvin the Martian, Ren and Stimpy, Stewie from Family Guy, Pinky and the Brain, Earthworm Jim, The Tick.
The cartoons I'd make time to watch: Dexter's Lab, Wacky Races, The Perils of Penelope Pitstop, Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, The Ren and Stimpy Show, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Futurama, Family Guy, Pinky and the Brain, Ulysses 31 (why not?), Home Movies, Baby Blues.
Nobody ever seems to remember Space Sentinels, though. From about the same time as the Tarzan cartoon and Battle of the Planets.
" The world's mightiest young heroes on a mission
to save the Universe!! "
Space Sentinels: Hercules, Astrea and Mercury using their "uncanny powers" to save mankind from deadly space invaders! Their computer was called S1, which had a giant baldy-man Wizard-of-Oz hologram face, and there was a Maintenance Operator robot as well (with telescopic limbs, I think).
Link: Great web-link
For anyone who can catch it, the Astroboy cartoon is frickin great. Ten past four on a thursday. On the Beeb.
hex
...i remember the Space Sentinals, took me ages a month or two back to do various web searches to find only minor details about this series, funny thing was i only ever remembered the title as the Sentinals, and discovered there was only 13 episodes, its like other classics you think theres many more, would love to see the missing Battle of the Planet ones...
Lots and lots of 'em.
Special mentions:-
? The entire crew of SEALAB 2021, especially fat stupid dolphin kid
? Spike Spiegel (impossibly cool) and Ein (cutest cartoon dog EVAH) from COWBOY BEBOP
? Guts from BEZERK
? Arucard from HELLSING
? Mr. Thundercles, the next-door-death-robot from THE BRAK SHOW
??Incredible bad-ass Batman from JUSTICE LEAGUE (esp. S2)
? The Groovy Ghoulies
? Venger, DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS' mono-horned sarong-sporting master of evil
? ZIM!
J-Bo-1
Also: the entire ANIMANIACS axis of genius from mid-90s Warner Bros, i.e. ANIMS / FREAKAZOID / PINKY & THE BRAIN. ANIMANIACS gets the nod for GOODFEATHERS alone, utter brilliance!
Oh, and Haku from SPIRITED AWAY.
J-Bo-1
Centurions rocked like hell.
All of Jamies choices plus these added by myself
Gene Starwind from outlaw star
Darkwing duck
count duckula
dangermouse
The cast of reboot
the cast of big O
jayce and the wheeled warriors
Around the World with Willy Fog
plus also journey to the centre of the earth
and possibly more

Now if only these two had their own Saturday morning cartoon.
On the topic of Evan (Godlike) Dorkin, did you see the ELTINGVILLE CLUB pilot? Absolutely EVIL, and quite brilliant*. Can kinda see why it didn't get to a full series, though!
J-Bo-1
*It uses the plot of the very first ELTINGVILLE comic, if you've read it - the one where they have a trivia-off to get a 12" Boba Fett... hey, it was in DEADLINE!
How could I forget!?!
A classic...on the same show was another cartoon called 'Crazylegs crane' another classic :)
duh duh-ding duh-ding
I've not seen Bring Me The Head of Boba Fett, but I do want a Major Violence alarm clock. "Get up you big sissy or I'll break your arm!"
Thundercats
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (The new series, not the old one)
Lost Cities of Gold (But possibly couldn't sit through all 40 or so episodes again)
Science Ninja-Team Gatchaman (AKA Battle of the Planets)
Sam 'n Max
Earthworm Jim
The Tick
Ren & Stimpy (First Series - it got a bit pants after that, although the new adult-aimed series alternated between genius and madness)
Tarzan - that rocked.
Most of the 90's Marvel Superheroes cartoons were very well done too.
Robotech
Steve
Oh, and everyone loves Happy Tree Friends.
Link: Watch episodes
Well, if we're talking web then there's:
Weebl and Boband
Homestar Runner(Hopes web-fu works...)
Milk & Cheese are my girlfriend's favourite comic book characters EVER.
"Love us with money, or we'll hate you with hammers!"
does anyone remember the 'Drac Pack'?
does anyone remember the 'Drac Pack'?
Ahhh, so that's where I remember "Bad toad! Bad toad!" from. Been driving me bonkers that.
Another Cosgrove & Hall one - Victor and Hugo.
And possibly the rudest/funniest name a young child watching cartoons can hear - Chilly Willy.
"Ahhh, I needed that"
Dan/Frankie
I hear dat!
Also: ISTR Marvel are reprinting Dorkin's run on BILL AND TED - get it if you see it, because it includes the peerless FIGHT MAN, whence my profile quote comes from:
"I'll fight until the cows come home ? and then I'll fight the f**king cows!"
J-Bo-1
Wish I'd bought the Milk 'n' Cheese T-shirt that DEADLINE put out:
M: "Gin makes a man MEAN!"
C: "Everyone booze up and RIOT!"
Ah, happy, happy days. I really miss DEADLINE :(
J-Bo-1
wasn't 'I needed that' from Frankie in the groovy ghoulies?
THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT!
(On reflection, it's possible that GROOVY GHOULIES was a UK retitle of DRAK PACK)
J-Bo-1
A quick google suggests that they were seperate entities (GG from the 70's, DP 80's).
However I don't conciously remember the former, but do the latter. I thought the quote was Frankie...
I may be wrong
Dan
groovy ghoulies and drac pack were completely different shows...I remember them both :)
Yes, they were quite different. Groovy Ghoulies was a 'Laugh-in' format cartoon sketch show with musical numbers (e.g Frankie as 'Super Ghoul, he looks so cool, in his yellow cape and a polkadot vest...'), set in a very crowded haunted castle.
Drac Pack was a cartoon adventure series in which a team of hero monsters battled a team of villain monsters intent on taking over the world or just getting up to general badness.
Both of them were eminently watchable.
Anyone else see the ad for this in the newest meg?
Transformers is old news, but I didn't know this was coming out!
