I'm just watching this turkey at the minute on the Sci-fi channel, and in my considered opinion it's a load of bollocks.
My dad rates the first one highly, though I've yet to watch it - but this one sucks. Even I know that guff they were spouting a few minutes ago about tesseracts is technically inaccurate, and I didn't even pass my maths gcse. I don't think I'll bother with the first one, now.
Utter wank.
No no no, don't let it put you off!! Cube was a neat little thriller - quite harsh and cruel too.
Cube 2's only claim to fame is that it actually uses the word 'Hypercube'. That takes guts.
Unfortunately, watching the sequel first means that the cool unexplained parts of the original are then explained. Badly.
No, no, no, no, no.
Was my reaction to seeing a thread titled, 'Cube 2: Hypercube'. 'Cube' was a really effective thriller - I realised that I was exhausted when the film finished thanks to the tension generated. Every time I went into a room I was worried that this was a room from the Cube.
Cube 2 is poo.
Yup. Cube Zero comes out this year. Might be fun, but I doubt it.
Cube Zero
They should have called it Cube?
I watched the rest of it, though I wish I hadn't, because I was finishing up a wee bit o' work while praying my printer didn't eat it on the way out,and I was a bit knackered, too.
I probably just wasn't in the mood for watching it, but it seems to me that if Hawk the Slayer could be entertaining on a budget of 20p, something like Cube 2 has an obligation to be entertaining on its budget of several million quid.
Incidently, the only film I've never bothered to watch all the way through - and I have pretty low standards for entertainment, it must be said - was Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life. I just walked out and went to the pub around about the bit where your woman parachuted into the back of a moving jeep. I regret I didn't take this course with a great many films, it must be said.
First Cube was pretty damn good.
The second one has the bloke out of 'Forever Knight' in it......should give everyone an idea of the quality.
Cheers,
Adam
Cube is one of my wife's favorite films, and she's not into sci-fi at all!! She has watched it about half a dozen times. The first time we watched it we where literally on the edge of our seats. It's an awesome film, especialy the first time you watch it. Cube Two however was a severe disapointment. I'll look forward to Cube Zero though.
Cube is absolutely awesome, seriously one of the best high-concept films ever made.
Wouldn't the cube of zero be zero?
Cube was excellent. Cube 2 not so much. What I most disliked about Cube 2 was the illogic of it. I don't want to give any spoilers here, but it's so inconsistent.
Cube is indded aces, and thankfully I've not seen hypercube. I think I won't be bothering either.
Bolt-01
I would reccomend Cypher too. It was by the chappie wot did Cube and, although about an hour in you see the twist lit up in neon, its still pretty good.
hex
Cube?: Cubed
Cypher, by the same director, is pretty good BTW, though as one reviewer put it very much like a feature length episode of Alias.
The original Cube was a clever metaphor for the nature of the universe, making Hypercube just reduces it to a horror movie - or does Hypercube also have some deep subtext?
No, it's just Cube with knobs on - going one better.
Like Hellraiser II - more puzzle boxes, more Cenobites.
Aliens - like Alien, but more monsters, more guns.
Jurassic Park (The Director's Cut) - "with more dinosaurs" according to 'Father Ted', anyway.
The peopele who made Hypercube probably think subtext is what Captain Nemo reads.
