Do you wear glasses, contacts or any other visual aid?

or Do you fit into the traditional comic/sci-fi geek stereotype?
Yes 3 100 %
No 0 0 %
sigh...........we're stereotypes.............
NO!
I joined the Fire Service - which means I have pretty top notch eyesight.
So does Bou, I guess.
Okay, I hurt my foot and decided that this heroism lark wasn't for me. But I still passed the selection. Okay, I'm a wimp. With good eyesight.
Only when I drive. Up close my eyes are top notch, but after 30 feet or so I need help with the small print.

Only to protect mt secret identity.
Only some of us do and some dont. It was 55% Yes 45% No.
Erm No for me
Slips
I only wear night vision goggles in order to watch you while you sleep.
i am sightly short sighted
We could also have a competition for who has the worst eyesight. Logan would probably win though he's blind as a bat if I remember correctly.

-10.5 left -8.5 right
As of yesterdy I now wear glasses. Managed to last the longest (29 years) out of all my family. And only really for 1 eye.
I now need to get a haircut so my glasses look better on me...
Dan
Fair chance that I'd win in a poor eye sight comp. I'm blind in my right eye from a childhood accident. I then got Keratoconus in my left eye. This eveuntually resulted in me having a cornea transplant, leaving me as long sighted as it's possible to be (which is of course, to a degree corrected by the glasses).
Alan!
Left eye -5.25, right eye -5.50.
Usually wear contacts, but I've got a drawing bug this past while, so I need to wear glasses more often. Complete stereotype, me. Beard, long hair, glasses, and I know the difference between Mr Spock and Dr Spock.
Though I don't read comics with women with big titties, so I probably lose points there - but I did once read an issue of Tomb Raider.
hurrah, i'm not a wimp, and i have good eyes hurrahhhh!
tho i have spaz painful feet, gammy knees, hellish allergies & ahhh yes, okay not such great eyesight, i'm blind as a bat within 6 " of eyes, which is, i believe, why long term relationships just don't work, every time a guy looks deep into my eyes, i just go cross eyed & blank them.
but then i'm also good at running fast, & throw a mean punch...these could all be related...
stereotype warrior psycho hell bitch Bou.
Left eye -6.5
Right eye -7.0
Contacts all the way!
If you lost your eye-sight, would you stop buying 2000ad, or would you still buy it, and get someone to read it to you?
After my cornea transplant I was effectively "blind" for a bit. Eventually I could make out the pics but not the text. At this point I asked/made the missus read me my comics! So...erm... yeah, I'd still get it!
Alan!
hurrah for the missis ! were the thrills still as thrilling ?
i'm big on the prutty pictures me, all script & no image would make it a very odd new kind o thrill , but by hell yes... if i went deef too, then i suppose i could always sniff the pages.
I'm just colour blind (so no fire service for me) but other than that my eyesight is pretty tip top.
However I reckon I will have to wear glasses in the future so I call people who do wear glasses 'speccy' as often as I can before I to become one of their number. Childish I know, but it gets me through the day.
We are the speccies. We will assimilate you. When we can find you.
My grammar is appalling. Sorry.
Erm, the thrills weren't "as" thrilling but beggars can't really be chooses. There no real substiture for the whole experience but sometimes you just have to put up with the hand yer dealt.
Maybe it was more bearable coz I knew it wasn't permanent.
Alan!
indeed, nothing like a scare to make ee appriciate that which is taken for granted. i spent best part o couple o years having trouble walking & in great pain, needlessly too , thanks NHS. so now running , jumping ( cautiously) & general stompery are a luxury that i am very happy about.
bodies have a limited shelf life, look after them boys n girls.
"i spent best part o couple o years having trouble walking & in great pain"
those boots do look a little uncomfortable ;)
No glasses for me except the ones that contain dirty beer or a cheeky red ine, I am left handed though, but only when it comes to drawing or writing ;-)
Ed
Yep, Coke bottles and proud of 'em.
Yep. Plus My eyesight will improve instead of deteriorate as I get older!
If only I had someone to read things with...
>Logan would probably win though he's blind as a bat if I remember correctly.
???

W. R. Logan.
I've got some shades. For when it's sunny like.
They gave me glasses once, but I never wear them - unless I want to see Magic-Eye pictures really clearly. Otherwise they just make things seem closer then they are, which meant it was difficult to pick things up. If I wanted to be that close to something, I'd move closer to it.
Right eye -2.00
Left eye -2.50
My left eye is paralysed in one direction though, and this gets worse when I'm drunk. Remind me to demonstrate at Dreddcon.
I've worn glasses since I was five - don't know my prescription but left eye twice as bad as right. So when I wear ordinary shades I feel lopsided.
Also left-handed.
slightly serious addition to this thread.
As a new spec wearer, can you give any tips on avoiding cloudy/smeary lenses. Been having problems all day, and the stock cleaning cloth seems shite.
Dan
Cleaning glasses - I use soapy water then polish it off with kitchen roll.
Eventually your brain will start to filer out the smears (though the 'starlight' effect still annoys me at the cinema sometimes so I usually clean my glasses before I go in)
Can't remember my prescription but I'm the most short-sighted person I've ever actually met... most peope wince when they put my glasses on.
Dan,
Practise and familiarisation.
Plus get yourself a good quality lens cloth from an opticians (Pentax or something - only a couple of quid) though as they are better than the standard crap.
What a bunch of wankers. Heh, heh, heh.

Well...I was around 15-16 when my eyesight started to go....
Cleaning glasses?
Well, today I cleaned week-old paint drops (I redid the bathroom ceiling last weekend) off my glasses with the back of a biro.
Pentax cleaning cloths?
What's wrong with a dishtowel?
You posh gits.

I haven't got horrendously bad eyesight, but I'm short-sighted in my might and long-sighted in my left, which makes my eyesight...odd.
Eventually, I'll have to switch to contacts so I don't end up looking like a bizarre Patrick Moore caricature.
...short-sighted in my might
Extract taken from Conan the Optician.
There's a big difference between cleaning 'glass' glasses or plastic ones...
Glass is easier to keep clean but I have to have high refractive index plastic to avoid looking like Mr Magoo....
I wear glasses at the moment, but I'm getting laser eyes fitted in about three weeks time.
Can't wait!
"...or any other visual aid?"
Like what?
A dog?
A monocle?
That would be great.
Perhaps one of us uses a telescope?
