Title: Christmas is coming the goose is getting fat...
Post by: WoD on 07 October, 2004, 06:07:54 PM
And I'm looking forward to getting some nice new and shiny GNs to read over the holiday period...so...how about some recommendations...

I intend to get the next Y-The last man GN when it is out, and also SMAXX from Top Ten when that arrives.  Anyone have any suggestions on what to get when it arrives or anything that is already here.

Cheers,
WoD.

Currently reading TPB's of 100 Bullets (up to number six now IIRC) and they're not half bad.

It's only October BTW. Getting in early?

If you like anything goth/fairytale, I'd recommend Courtney Crumrin in the Twilight Kingdom. The downside is that the graphic novel is very small. The comics are regular American size, but the GN's about A5.

Actually, forget that WOD. I've got my brother-in-law the originals for Christmas already. You can borrow those in November if you can get them back to me in time to wrap them up !

Grab Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, if you can.
100 Bullets is okay. First volumes are great, then it begins to meander into the whole conspiracy stuff which doesnt float my boat as much as deserved vengeance.

I cant say I'd recommend Smax but if you like Moore then I'd say Supreme,Miracle Man or Swamp Thing.

Others are -

Punisher (Over the top super hero violence)

The Filth (Drug induced frenzy)

Maus (Just plain great)

Happy shopping!

Tintin and The Cigars of the Pharos. I love the art, Herge at his best.

Modesty Blaise books 1-3 from Titan. For collections of 3 panel daily strips they read remarkably well and tell ambitious tales. There's some nice adventure, fun characters, hissable villains, and laugh out loud moments. Sexy female espionagist and crime fighter. To quote J-BO - "What's not to like?"

Last couple of Transmetropolitan TPBs for me.
And isn't the second Losers collection out in November?
