thought i'd get working on my starlord site as i've been putting it off for sevenpennynightmare things for too long.
half of it is up and running, and i'm writing some more whenever i have a few moments.
anyway, i added issue 1 so people could look at very old strontium dog. look in the section called 'pages'
Link: this-a-way.....
Excellent!
Great site!
nice one moose... i've got all the issues but hadn't read the 'lenin' timequake story
good stuff
thinky
"Oh god! It's the Skate Board Strike Force!"
"Quick! Up that gravel driveway over there, they'll never be able to follow us!"
thanks moose
excellent site,brought back some memories,
hurry up and get the rest online.
I've got every Starlord issue scanned if you need them.
STRAT! That`s brilliant Moose.
I notice that Johnny Alpha has boned two punks already!
keep up the good work,
yours wishing he had Starlord`s head of hair
imo alpha,
doesnt bone enough punks
Hey, that's a very good site; lots of fun and very informative.
How about a credit for the amazing Ian Gibson for his art on the intro page?
- Trout
Great site! Must get those back issues sometime
The tought of Alpha 'boning' punks is kinda strange if you consider "boning" is another word for "f**king"
Do you know which Srontium Dog story Brendan McCarthy drew in the 1978 Star Lord Summer Special?
Link: www.brendanmccarthy.co.uk
well fancy that
Nice work, moose.
I must say that despite a lot of great content, I would be a liar if I didn't admit to some *slight* disappointment over the decision not to include anything to do with clogs.
;)
Thanks, Moose! I'd never read a single issue of Starlord before, but that looks on a par with 2000ad to me.
Excellent stuff, so glad I got to see this.
Bolt-01
carnivore, i'd love the scans and i'll mail you.
trout, i was going to credit ian gibson on a credits page, but will probably stick something next to the pic as it'd be better. i'm also going to link to this site in a few places for the full on starlord experience.
on that note, if anyone knows of anything starlord related out there, could they post it here so i can link? also if you just want to link in stuff of interest, please do likewise. i reckon brendon mccarthy deserves one, as would ian gibson etc....
has carlos ezquerra got a site?
does anybody have any starlord character sketches?
where's rufus? i'd like some scans from him as i know he has lots of original pages.
Phuz, the brendon stront story from the special was untitled, but i'll put it online soon.
thanks to everyone for kind comments, hope to get some more done soon.
p.s. matt...i'll be putting the strontium clogs pages up soon....
Your web link's not working either. I suggest hitting it with one of your clogs... etc, etc...
:)
>Phuz, the brendon stront story from the special was untitled, but i'll put it online soon.
I've got scans of a Stront story called 'Funfair of Fear' but I don't know which of the Starlord specials it came from - here's the first page:
starlord annual 1981 i think
matt, link not working? works for me...perhaps your pc is clogged up or something....
Well done on the credit thing, Moose.
I'm sure you know, but...
Link: ...this is Ian's official site
starlord annual 1981 i thinkYup.
has carlos ezquerra got a site?Yup, too. Last update 14/May/96
(The phrase "sexy judges" should be followed with "Ees Feelthy, hey?")

Oops, tell a lie, 1980.
Oops, tell a lie, 1980.
So the McCarthy story in the 1978 Special is another story? The story in the 1980 annual isn't a reprint from the special?
They didn't used to do that in those days. Fleetway had a rule about it. Annuals had to contain a certain amount of reprint material to kkep costs down, but the reprints had to be of stuff from at least yey years before - a bit tricky when your comic only began a year or two ago, so they used to reprint stuff like Phantom Patrol, which isn't from 2000AD or like it.
the 78 special story is set in a n orbiting casino and is essentially in black and white, but is sort of greywashed for shading...not the one above
Cheers for the info, Moose. A while back someone sent me the McCarthy Stront artwork above and said it was from the 78 special, obviously it wasn't.
Great site by the way.
why, thanks awfully.
carnivore has kindly supplied me with scans of every issue...cheers for that, i'll use some bits as we go.
phuz, any chance you could send me the stront scans?
"Funfair of Fear" was my first taste of Strontium Dog and I remember feeling vaguely let down when I discovered that it was usually drawn by Carlos (I was young, I thought Carlos was crap- I know better now).
Excellent stuff.
phuz, any chance you could send me the stront scans?
No problems, I send them in the next couple of days.
thanks many there!! jolly good of you.
i'll do the summer special pages and add them tonight for you to enjoy...
carnivore is now supplying me with a complete run of tornado...the chap's a damn good egg.
and about time too
on to the faves browser with that one.
looks like a site to take some time on.
good to see he finally got around to this.
i'm just adding a .rar archive of all 22 issues for download. meanwhile there's some mccarthy strontium dog and even more timequake up as soon as my server hosts fix the 403 permissions error.
then it's time for mind wars...
the action site has got all the 'missing' strips going online today. unseen episodes of death game 1999, hook jaw, kids rule o.k., lefty and hell's highway.
then i'm doing all of johnny red, major eazy, el mestizo and some other stuff at www.falconsquadron.co.uk - it's a johnny red site, but i'll put some 'best of battle' stuff on there without hopefully treading on marble's toes.
what do you reckon...should i do some tornado too?
>the 78 special story is set in a n orbiting casino and is essentially in black and white, but is sort of greywashed for shading...not the one above
If you see some of Carlos' Starlord artwork its black, white & green. When printed in B&W the green comes out as a shade of grey.
La Placa Rifa,
W. R. Logan.
yeah, i just scanned a timequake story that was black, white and yellow....eeeuuch.
anyway it's b & w now, much nicer.
As good as it must be for people who've not these stories to get a chance to see them isnt it also infringing upon copyright of the publisher, writer and artist to put complete stories/issues online?
La Placa Rifa,
W. R. Logan.
probably, but that's been debated here at length before. most of this stuff is out of print, and not likely to be printed again, probably ever. wouldn't the same be true for flogging on old issues at vastly inflated prices?
my original plan was to just put up a few pages, but seeing as the whole lot was already scanned and freely available anyway if you know where to look (which i didn't), it seemed too good to miss.
if starlord strips become available to purchase again, then no doubt i'd remove the lot from the net, because i wouldn't like to deprive anyone of an income, unlike the original publishers, who gave the writers and artists more than enough to complain about when they were screwed over for the royalties, having been forced to sign away the intellectual copyrights on their work before it was ever published, the normal practice for british comics in the 70s. not sure if this would happen yet again on any book deal, some people, like pat mills, managed to regain their rights on early work.
arguing the case further, would you buy a complete run of starlord in a book form to have and to hold, or make do with a load of slightly fuzzy scans? some would, some wouldn't. some people would like to see the stuff first, like try before you buy.
i could debate the issue for ages, and i feel for both sides of the argument. if anybody wanted the stuff removed, i'd remove it. on the other side of the coin, i've never read tornado before, and now i can, without paying 50 or 60 quid to someone on ebay for the privilege. tornado's writes and artists don't see any of that money...
now, i've been sat watching six feet under and curb your enthusiasm and thinking about things and searching my conscience.
what do people think about scanning and online availability?
bolt has put the metro dredds up...there's plenty of other comic sites around...misty is all available online, as is scream...
thorny issue, again...
i'm going to bed feeling guilty now...
maybe i'll just take them down again...maybe not.
probably will though...probably
now i've had another idea.
what about if people could only access online strips after they donated a fee of say, ?1 to a comics related charity?
it would be easy to set up via something like paypal. you'd only be directed to the downloads page after you'd donated, and then you could bookmark it for future use.
of course then there'd have to be a password thing or people would just post links direct to the download page, but i'd sleep easier and that'd be their consciences plaguing them rather than me and mine...
i'll look into it...what do people think?
naaah, probably never work would it?
I know Rebellion have a policy of sending cease and desist notices to sites that host complete 2000AD strips.
La Placa Rifa,
W. R. Logan.
yeah, but timequake has survived online at the same site where rebellion have insisted that the cursed earth was removed...
i'll play it by ear...
