Hey folks,
i've got a particularly embarrassing and loserish question for you all. i play in a judge dredd roleplaying group, using the d20 system. some of the guys are interested in doing a rogue trooper game.
I know that rogue/friday/tor/venus etc are immune to toxins and biological warfare, and that they are "genetically engineered super-soldiers", but i wonder if anyone knows anything more specific?
His gun is psychic.
Cheers chief! PS, am i the only one that liked Fr1day best out of all the rogues?
I think that's a fairly safe bet.
His helmet has sensors. Seriously.
am i the only one that liked Fr1day best out of all the rogues?
You are, but we tend not to identify ourselves too public ... bugger.
(sound of guns going off)
I've come to terms with it i think. fr1day was just so cool though, he was all brooding and introspective. i remember that prog where he went to a ghost town and he was kind of on the edge of his reason, and he almost killed a child. i know that's pretty standard western movie fare, but it was really well written, and i've always had an affection for him since then. and besides, fr1day is a cool name.
hey man, i really liked your dreddophenia design by the way, it was very cool, nice art too, a bit like a prankster bryan talbot!
Ta mate ;o)
longmanshort basks in the warm glow of praise while waiting for the expected barrage of sarcasm from the others
I'm sure you won't have to wait long.
Ha!
There you go.
IIRC, that was a John Smith Fr1day story, so it was bound to be all right, unlike most of the others.
hey, you remember the story! cool!
yeah, i should probably admit i was a kid back then, and it forms my main memory of fr1day...
thanks for the info!
how nerdie am i from memory only....
Original rouge trooper
Proof against most chem/bio attacks and acids
Greater than human stamina, strength and reflexes
Keener senses (vision hearing etc) also bio (dog) chip tech at point of death brain is electronically copied on to chip chip can retain memory for 60 seconds before needing external power source or data is lost (chip is then read and personality data is inserted in to new clone body) when powered stored personalities can "synth" (talk with synthesizer mounted on chip) and interact as if the personallty had flesh
Equipment:
GI laz rifle has up to (I think) 1km range for accuracy also sammie (surface to surface/surface to air missiles) and seal burster (for breaking anti chem/bio attack shelters) add ons on board sensors and on board comp also bio chop interface for supporting a biochip where stored personality can utilise the rifles sensors autofire and on board comp to increase efficiency
GI helmet has a toughened chevalier like shell also has advanced sensor ability and an interface for supporting a biochip where stored personality can utilise the helmet sensors
GI backpack stored all specialist GI equipment from GI rifle add ons to grenades deployed using a robotic arm and comms equipment also has powerful on board comp sensors and antipersonnel equipment (micro mines can be deployed automatically from the pack without taking off the pack) also an interface for supporting a biochip where stored personality can utilise the Pack sensors, comp, comm, a/p equipment and equipment deploying arm
bugger
apart from the spelling
and when i said interact as if the personallty had flesh i ment they can talk and retain memorys
Gi Backpack (Bagman, obviously) had special powers which made him able to produce handy plot devices whenever necessary.
Nictating eyelids - basically, a second (transparent) eyelid could be closed across his eye, protecting him against acid but still allowing him to see.
hey tweak 72 and all you other guys, thanks so much for the info! i had a basic memory of rogue trooper from many years ago, and it was sorely lacking in detail. really appreciate all your help.
oh and tweak72 when you said rouge trooper i assumed it was a rather witty joke, and started imagining a more urbane, stylish trooper, devlin waugh style.
thanks again folks!
He's got blue skin. Has anybody said that yet?
And a talking hat.
And a natural mohican.
According to the interweb (and gary) he has a big dogs cock - so,e kind of special weapon?
Well, the original Rogue was a clone designed for war. He had superior strength and endurance. He is completely immune to poison, appart from a naturally occuring toxin called 'neotrope X' (which sometimes knocks him completely unconcious and sometimes paralyses him), I think, and he is also slightly affected by Nort Dreamweaver gas (he can see the illusions, but doesn't seem to be bothered by the hypnotic effects that it has on the Souther troopers). He's also fire proof (he gets hit with flamethrowers a couple of times) and acid proof (he can swim in the Scum Sea, which disolves Nort suits and Souther armour). His skin is like armour and he's extremely resistant to injury (he gets stabbed through the heart a couple of times but nevertheless survives) and can apparently hold his breath for several hours.
His skin is bright blue (although no one has ever explained exactly why this is) and he has no irises or pupils in his eyes. He is also implanted with a bio chip in his skull which will record his personality in the event of his death, allowing the chip to be implanted into another body, thus saving on years of training. The chip can only survive for 60 seconds, but can be implanted into energised slots on certain pieces of GI equipment which apparently support them indefinately.
He carries a wide array of equipment, including biochips containing the personalities of his three 'dead' comrades. Helm, who in life was a Pathfinder 1st class, occupies the number one slot in his helmet. As well as protecting Rogue's head, the helmet has CCD image receptors and audio pick-ups, although in the early stories Helm was also used to hack into computer systems.
Gunnar occupies the number two slot in Rogue's assault rifle. A Marksman Grade AAA, Gunnar can operate the rifle on autofire. It's apparently a rapid firing laser, but also seems to be a projectile weapon on occasion. It can also fire a veriety of grenades which fit onto the end of the barrel.
Bagman, an Armourer/Weapons Instructor Grade 2, occupies the number three slot in Rogue's backpack. The backpack is also fitted with CCD audio image receptors and audio pick-ups (although Helm appears to have 'more acute hearing') but also carries loads of other stuff (presumable, it also has a recharing thing for Gunnar's ammo). He seems to carry a lot of ammunition and grenades, as well as lots of other more general equipment.
Oh, and Rogue can also DISCO!
His skin is bright blue (although no one has ever explained exactly why this is)
I figure this is to set the GIs apart from 'real' peolpe, and make them easily recognised as a peice of hardware, rather than a person.
Wow, thanks, that was pretty comprehensive.
i most certainly didn't know that about the fireproof thing. it's funny, all i knew when we were starting to think about setting up a rogue-type campaign was that he was immune to toxins and he was a "genetically engineered supersoldier" which is the phrase used one million times across the web describing any GI.
thanks lobo
GI Backpack (Bagman, obviously) had special powers which made him able to produce handy plot devices whenever necessary.
Not really - Bagman would tend to carry tools and things that Rogue would have some sort of logical reason to carry, which he could then improvide with (typically, his laz-scalpel) - it was the Fleisher-era Fr1day that had the Magic Bag of Plot Devices, from which he could draw exactly what he needed, even if it would be completely useless most of the time.
I figure this is to set the GIs apart from 'real' peolpe, and make them easily recognised as a peice of hardware, rather than a person.
True, I think this was the reason that Dave Gibbons gave for making him blue, but no one in the strip ever says so.
Considering that Rogue appears to be pretty much the only blue thing on Nu-Earth, some sort of camoflage effect might have been more logical, specially as he only ever wore a pair of cycling shorts and a hat...
PS Lobo,
speaking of blue men doing disco...
did you ever read starman, dc comic by james robinson?
there's a character in it who was a superhero in the seventies.
he's supercool, blue skin, red hair, big medallion (source of his star-power, of course) and he takes lots of quaaludes and can disco like fury.
cool.
As well as sensors, Helm also has frottage powers.
YOu LIE!!
i love that word.
have you ever seen flirting with disaster?
i'm not crazy about it as a movie, but it was where i learned about frottagists and their needs, and for that i'm grateful.
but the hell you say, what does helm frottagise?
Every time Rogue throws Helm at Norts, it's just so the talking hat can get off on rubbing up against their chem-suits. Cutting their air hoses in the process is just a coincidental side effect.

Nort: Stak! Mein air line!
Helm: ++NNNNNNNNNRRRRRGGGG++
Rogue: Synth out, Helm. This is meant to be a stealth mission.
Helm: ++Sorry, Rogue. I can't help it. I've just come++
