Title: DVD regions
Post by: Matt Timson on 02 November, 2004, 05:25:36 PM
I know that the UK is Region 2- but what's region 3?  Is that anywhere in the world- or did I just dream that?

Not too sure, but region 0 is anywhere in the world so I don't think it's that. If you've got a ps2 you can get a disc called region x that'll decode any region. Rocking so it is.

Region 1 - The U.S., U.S. territories and Canada

Region 2 - Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland

Region 3 - Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong

Region 4 - Mexico, South America, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Caribbean

Region 5 - Russia (okay, former Russia), Eastern Europe, India, most of Africa, North Korea, Mongolia

Region 6 - China

Who came up with these regions. Some of the choices are a bit arbitary and/or weird.

no, they're perfectly logical:

region 1 the US of A (I think for the purposes of this, Canada counts as the US of A, in the same way Scotland counts as England)
Region 2: Economic competitors of the US of A
Region 3: sweatshop economies serving the US of A
Region 4: countries full of people who might emigrate to the US of A
Regions 5&6: Commies.

You can get a DVD that changes the regions for you on the PS2 - costs around ?8-?10.

Considering how cheap some of the Region 3 DVDs are it could be worth it...especially when you start buying the Teletubbies, Pingu, Tweenies, etc. to keep the little one happy...and you will you know...

Very red now- I've actually got that Region X DVD knocking around somewhere.  A mate gave it to me after buying a multi region player- I'd just forgotten all about it...

Doofus!
