Title: MacNeil reader art - in what prog?
Post by: davidbishop on 10 November, 2004, 10:05:47 PM
Gordon Rennie once did an hilarious article for Speakeasy about 2000 AD reader art by people who later worked for the comic. Can anyone point me to the prog where Colin MacNeil's drawing of Mega-City Warden Judge Peel appeared? (No prizes for guessing who will soon suffer under the third degree for the Meg's Interrogation feature...)

Although it looks here like he'd covered it in glitter  - I think that's a scanner problem, so you'd be better off re-scanning it from the original prog.

Who's to say he didn't cover it in Glitter and send it off with a note from his social worker saying 'This drawing was done by Colin. He's special'? Could have happened.

Glitter's extra spacey, isn't it?

I've got scans of all droid artwork and letters including names and prog issues on my hard drive, in anticipation of an article for this site.
If you want them Bish, let me know. (There are a few that aren't on the Co79 site)

The glitter is because the gif file has been set with a transparent background of a colour which appears at those points.

Actually, last night I came across that old article by that old sorcerer of sarcasm, Gordon Rennie, in Speakeasy 116.  I wasn't even thinking of this thread, just browsing through some old tat.  Gordon's stuff is much more entertaining than some of the self indulgent stuff by comic pros in there.  Now a jaded and well abused pro himself, Gordon could be forgiven for falling into the same trap, but has thankfully avoided it.

He also pointed out Philip Bond (139), Kev Hopgood (132 and another, unnamed) Warren Ellis, Pat (the Shakey hat) Kane, John Mcrea, Steve Pugh, and Kris Guido (don't ask).

For his troubles Gordon was given a Squaxx Dex Thargo.  Isn't that the really lame one given to any reader of 2000AD?  It's not a Krill Tro Thargo, or a Deca Thargo.
