Title: Moulin Rouge?
Post by: paulvonscott on 21 November, 2004, 02:37:09 AM
It's on C4 in 30 minutes.  Should I even bother trying to watch it?

It looks just the sort of thing I'm going to hate,   so should I give it a go?

Paul, don't bother. It really is crap. And I like musicals.

If you ever meet folks who think that Ewan is wasted as a Jedi, tell them to watch this and decide which is worse.

i tried watching it once, but my utter revulsion at nicole meant i only lasted 3 seconds... ive got a new tactic, half watching & burying my nose in a book when ever the camera focuses on her or she starts squealing & yip-ing... shudder...  its quite enjoyable but for her..

why oh why couldnt they have put wee kylie in as the courtesan ? shes slutty but watchable & cute.

still my attention span only lasted this long on second try.

You'd have loved the Premier of the Chanel N05 'film' in the first ad break then...

Maaaaan, but I love this film. I saw it the day I bought the Wilderlands collection and immediatley went back in to see it again. The person I went with didn't want to see it again, the people in the cinema didn't want me to see it again. But I did. And it was good.

Boring holiday anecdote: When we were in Paris for four days we walked past the Moulin Rouge just about every day, and we unable to do so without saying "It's the Moulin Roooooooouge" in the style of Jim Broadbent.

The actual Moulin Rouge is a bit shabby and crap looking, and possibly quite modern built as a replacemnt for an equally shabby and crap looking original. Oh, and it's a top film, IMHO.

Incidentaly, anyone seen the trailers for Phantom Of The Opera? That definately looks like it's shaping up to be a fifth rate Moulin Rouge.

Anyone bought the Red Curtain Trilogy?  It has Mouline Rouge, Romeo & Juliet and Strictly Ballroom.

I got it as a gift about a year ago, but I have yet to see Strictly Ballroom.

Anyway, the concept of his trilogy is interesting.  Let me see if I can remember it correctly.

Strictly Ballroom is an exploration through dance.
Romeo & Juliet is an exploration through word.
Moulin Rouge is an exploration through song.

What'cha all think?

Nothing wrong with a little division of opinion Bolt.

Personally I thought it was a mess.  Fantastic performance by Jim Broadbean as well as Ewan McGregor and the guy who played Mr Trek.  It would have been unwatchable without them.

It was like someone attempting to make a Terry Gilliam film, 'cept they weren't no Gilliam.

The Terry Thomas Impersonator wasn't to bad.

romeo & juliette's brilliant, watched this again recently.

not seen strictly ballroom tho.

theres a salsa class in village hall in december , does this sound like fun for the brain-to-limb-instruction-interpretatively-challenged?

Well, it's too late for me to tell you anything in advance, but I really quite enjoyed this film when I saw it a while back.  And I don't like musicals.

Like Ewan, like Nicole (well did until I saw that Chanel ad last night) and my girlfriend loves the film, so she's got it on DVD.

I disliked it when I was first dragged to the cinema to watch it, but watching it on DVD and skipping the chapters in between the big musical numbers makes it quite enjoyable. Surprisingly.

My favourite scene is when they are fleshing out the play. Most of the film is tot though.

moulin rouge   AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHSTILLABAGOFSHITE
romeo + juliet now dont get me wrong i hate HATE Leonardo DiCaprio (as i think he is a lazy actor and hardly ever gives his best relying on being blond and sexy) BUT i love this film (hang over from theatre days) and i must admit i even cryed when i first saw this film the entire cast is stunning the way the design is interpried is to say the least inspired and Claire Danes has been waisted since (terminator 3??)

Ewan's singing voice sounds like a toad.

When I first heard a single by the band KEANE I thought it was Ewan singing.

I think it was Bedshapes that he sounds most like Obi Wan on.
