I?m trying to put together a definitive list of all Brendan McCarthy?s work for my website:
http://www.brendanmccarthy.co.uk/
So does anyone know if Brendan did any work for British comics apart from 2000AD, Star Lord and Scream.
He also did some illustration work in the early 80?s for a role playing game called ?Golden Heroes?. Has anyone got a copy? If so could they do me a huge favour and scan me the artwork he did.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

well , there was rogan gosh for revolver( i think) which is a tpb along with 'skin'(bollaaaaarrrrrkkks!) , but you probly got them.....all his crazy artoons 'n' swimini purpose jazz would be nice to see together too. and to think i used to have golden heroes too...darn.(one of my fave rpg's circa 86)his 'shade the changing man' covers are almost british....i wish i could help more but do post up when the sight is ready , as i shall visit it daily and pray for his return. why have you forsaken us?!
good luck-
boo.
the site is up and ready (see the link below)
It's been alive for five years now, But occasionally evolves like a Dairylee triangle left out in the sun.
I've got all the major stuff covered, 2000AD, Revolver, Deadline, A1.... I'm thinking more of one-off stories he may have done for Battle(Action Force), The Eagle and some of the other weekly British comics, like the stories he did for Scream.

I've got some roughs he did for Strange Days covers. I'll email em to you if you want.
Rufus
Oh and some weird stuff like this. R
Tar Rufus - email away, I'll give any McCarthy artwork a good home.
The 'sausage' pic is exellent, do you know where it's from

Stunning.
McCarthy gets such strong colours in his images, does anyone know what he works in? Watercolour? Ink? etc.
Or is it just multiple media?
Brendan works in all sorts of mediums. He used to use a lot of his colour work in gouache and acrylac, but has dabbled in most stuff.
R
Next time I speak to him I?ll ask ?
I do know he does the line work first then works over it with colour?.

His latest design work looks like it?s done with magic markers.
Forgot to mention the website?s getting a huge update in the next couple of weeks, including a promotional flyer for his forthcoming book 'Swimini Purpose' plus more artwork than you could shake a large rubber battery powered stick at.

Cheers, i had an inkling that it was magic marker but without seeing the original work it's just guess work.
Love the site - look forward to the new art and the book.
Any idea when the books likely to be out?
No date yet - Brendan?s still in the negotiation stage with the publishers. It could be soon or could be a long way off.

Here's one of Brendan's Strange days cover roughs.

Here's a Beeeautiful Freakwave Painting. Aplogies for the flash!
R
Beeautiful indeed.
God I love this man's art, but get to see so little of it nowadays.
Roll on the book and the subsequent knighthood. :)
Sir Brendan has such a nice ring to it, doesn't it?
I?d settle for a statue in Trafalgar Square, next to the one of John Peel.

Fantastic stuff. McCarthy's just the business, eh? Strange Days is still one of my all-time favourites, and if Rufus wants to post some more bits and pieces, I for one, won't complain!
Anyone have those old issues of Vanguard where Freakwave started off?
Keep up the good work on the site, John.
I've got the Freakwave issues of Vanguard, I bought mine years ago but you can get them on EBay 'cheap as chips' - the only thing I'm really after are episodes of 'Summer of Love'
And here's a preview of some of the artwork going up on the site soon:

Ah, I have the Vanguards - I was just misty-eyed reminiscing! I think I have two of the different versions of that Mr. X cover somewhere... And now I think about it, my brother lent my copy of Skin to a mate and it was never seen again - gah, bah, funk.
What was the Summer of Love thing?
Skin's still pretty easy to track dow, considering the publisher went bust and left loads of them unsold. Most comic shops usually have a few copies, and you can definitely find it on both ebay and Amazon's .com and .co.uk.
I just went and bought myself a copy of ROgan Gosh, to replace my old issues of Revolver that I sold earlier in the year, after being inspired by this thread and John's site (like to drop in there from time to time for a quick dose of mondo weirdness). I think I've got some old copies of Strangedays, signed by Milligan, Ewins and McCarthy at home somewhere...
Summer of love was a newspaper comic strip Peter Milligan and Brendan McCarthy did for the News on Sunday - it's Milligan/McCarthy's great 'lost' work, as the end was never published and then the original artwork vanished. From the few episodes I've got it's truly stunning, so one of the aims of the site is to try and collect the whole of Summer of Love.
You can read more about it here:
