I've had an email from someone who owns the Gronk sewing pattern. I'd like to put it on the site, but it would need to be scanned on a flatbed (and then tidied up no doubt). There are two A4 pages of instructions, and about 6 A4 sheets worth of tissue paper patterns.
If you have access to a scanner and would like to help, please email me and I'll put you in touch with the owner.
Cheers,
Wake

Erm, if there's no-one closer, I might be able to give it a go, but it is about 40 minutes away so anyone from Newcastle or Sunderland would be better. I have a scanner, but sadly no photoshop to do any 'tidying up'.
Incidentally, is truly a wonder to behold. The Holy Gronk, I mean Grail of 2000AD stuff!
"At last they found the treasure that they sought..."
But can the pattern be altered so you can choose between the timid gronk or the kick ass gronk
If PVS scanned it and emailed it to me, i could tidy it up
Heh, the perfect Christmas present for John Wagner... his own special cuddly, loveably gronk, to hold and to love...
I only accept the timid, lovable Gronk. All other Gronks are merely Gronk-like imposters.
Oh my poor heartses!
There are some people in the database who are closer, but aren't regular boarders. I might email them and see if any of them want to help.
Cheers,
Wake
Okay, if it looks unlikely, just let me know.
Fantastic. It's like some long-rumoured-to-be-extinct animal has been uncovered in the misty jungles of Bongly-bongly-beep. Which, in a way, it has.
Congrats, Wake - hope this gives you a warm pre-Christmas glow, and that you know some nifty knitters.

Wow, one of the Holy Grails!
BTW, if he's looking to make some solid cash, tell him to get in touch or put it on ebay! :)
OK, as it means so much to so few, I'll do it. Pass the guy's details to me and I'll work out a mutually convenient time to sort something out.
Cheers
Paul
Calmed down enough now to respond sensibly..
Brilliant news - two questions
Where are the images of the pillow thing from? Was this some other pattern to celebrate various patterns they'd done to that point?
What's the story behind the patterns survival - has he had it since a kid - is he perhaps the child of the creator of the pattern - The person featured on the back of the summer special, IIRC? Or will they remain forever shrouded in secrecy, like Woodwards Deep Throat?
That pillow thing is a printed paper bag of patterns watcher. I remember them from my childhood.
My Nanna's in her eighties now, I'm not sure it would be right to ask her to make one for me!
Aha - that makes sense...
My memories of knitting are being taken around the bullring (the concrete maze that was OLD bullring, dammit - where you could actually buy things that you couldnt get elsewhere!) to wool stalls, going into the downstairs of a shop in Chelmsley Wood shopping centre where wool towered overhead precariously, missing Doctor Who on numerous occasions when my mom went to the wool shop at the Radleys on the way home from my nans, and having to stand for hours with my arms outstretched while my mom wound wool into balls... Only the Gronk knitting pattern can overturn these negative wool experiences... :)
Ah yes, and numeorus wool based outfits for action men... the poor buggers. She did a nifty red Flash outfit for one of them....
Bloody hell, look at that.
'Tis a nice design too.
Bolt-01
shit ! that looks fun !
brilliant, i wish my nan wasnt dead now, she did a nice line in knitted toys... i wonder if my mum would? i can knit, but only free-range, i can't do the pattern thing... is there a market for these? i could combine a help the OAPS project with mass production?
i can sew & embroider nifty accessories, if someone does the knitting ? a felt las-rifle, raffia d-jump wotsit? or a flimo SD badge ?
This is akin to discovering electricity, probably.
My sister's a dab hand with knitting needles, so I may have to bully her into making one for me ;)
WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DEVONS GRANDMA
gets your sewing machine and knitting needles ready.specail internet download printout on it ways soon.
WELL DONE WAKE!thats truly impressive.
Hi
Gronk guy here.
40 mins does not sound too far away.
Are you north, south or west of me.
I have been collecting 2000ad stuff for a good few years now so i don't want to part with it.
Wet my pants when i saw it, and again when i was charged less than a pound to buy it.
Hi Stewart
I'm South of you, I'll send you an e-mail and sort out when would be a good time and place to meet up.
At least everyone knows what to look for now. Was it just in a charity shop or something?
Cheers
Paul
Well done Gronk guy!
I completely understand you wanting to keep it - where did you uncover it? I've been trawling car boots for over a decade for this (and other things), so this brings fresh hope!
Hi Paul,
Got it from ebay.
I have access to an A4 scanner if thats what we need to do?
Maybe i can post the results to somebody who can tidy it up.
Cheers
Rob.
Watch what other rarities are you after?
Well, that's fine then Rob!
E-bay eh? Looks like some folk weren't vigilant enough ;)
Well, in 2000AD terms, I'm only really after things I don't really know exist until I find em (like the IPC in house magazine I found celebrating a Royal visit in 1978, with Prince Phillip visiting the Nerve centre!). Other than that, I'm missing some of the citadel miniatures and am always after old fanzines that regularly had 2000AD art/interviews like Arkensword and Speakeasy to fill the gaps...It can get quite dispiriting when you start to run out of things to find - Learn from my example - just say no to collecting!
That said, the gronk find has inspired me to further collecting... NEC, here I come!
What on earth was it listed under on Ebay?
In the past I've looked for the Womans Weekly the ad was in but never thought of actually looking for the pattern, thought it was the type of emphemeral thing that would have been lost forever, but then I should have known better!
But now I've been made full-time at work I now have more money to fritter away on Ebay so I can now make a push at everything else I want ;)
From the scans submitted so far looks like it was Women's Realm rather than Women's Weekly.
Dan
The search i did to find it was "gronk pattern".
Thankfully i was the only bidder but eighty three had viewed it.
Realm, Weekly I don't remember but I had the details including the date of the issue, even looked at general collector fairs but never found it.
Mad to think it was there and I missed it, well done for seeing it!
Going to have to take a closer look at some things on there, the problem is theres so much other stuff out there to weed through.
GRONK GUY
thats the most impressive first post on this board ever.you arrive and say hi. and offer the gronk pattern for scanning,
WELCOME TO THE BOARD.
i for one will be demanding DEVONS GRANDMA gets started ASAP. upon a printable version being created.
I could tidy up scans.
max
I'll try to be quick.
8th wonder of the world, anyone?
Any further news on the pattern?
I have a mother poised with knitting needles and thread....
OMG - im a happy bunny!!!! need to find someone to knot me one now!!!!
Any news on this lately?
Hi
I will be having another go soon as the first scans were not good.
Thanks for the update - I have a small army of knitters ready to unleash legions of wooly Gronks on the world, so I'm quite keen to get the pattern!
Cheers Stewartr
Cant wait to get myself a Gronk - if you need someone to make one for you, I'll certainly get my mom to knock out an extra one free of charge for you.
The first draft of the Gronk pattern is on the site, at the bottom of the games downloads.
If someone wants to tidy up the pattern, please go ahead. I've made all the images the same size (apart from the instructions) so that if you print them out they should work together.
Cheers,
Wake

oo oo ooo ooo oo oo oo how can i get one?????????
WHHHHHOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO
this is great.
better call my mother. may speed things up if i tell her its for Devon,
I may just have to steal Alina's new sewing machine for this... or at least steal her to use it ;)
Do any of the pages have dimensions of fabric needed?
Dan
The Gronk icon on the right hand side links to instructions. The patterns if printed out best fit on A4 paper should approximate to the original size.
Cheers,
Wake
Cheers for that Wake.
Dan
Wot Gronk icon???
Am I being a dumbass?
'Am I being a dumbass?'
Yes, look to the very right of the screen.
The Gronk icon is at the top right of the Download-Games page. I've now also made a link to the instructions from the Gronk pattern title.
Cheers,
Wake
P.S. Printing the images from Internet Explorer is likely to fail, since the scans are so large. Maybe I should turn them into a pdf file.
I'll have a go at cleaning the scan tonight, or tomorrow, or maybe even at the weekend.
Feel free to replace the text on each piece with new text. I've done that myself on one of them.
If someone could OCR the instructions that would be great too.
Cheers,
Wake
HURRAH!!
Cheers for this - as soon as I have a gronk I'll post him up here
The instructions have now been OCRed and reuploaded - thanks to petemaskreplica for that.
Cheers,
Wake

This is genius. I've e-mailed my lovely fish-Queen, demanding she learn to knit!
Get her to do it when just after spawning season sets it. It'll give her loads of time ;-)
"I've e-mailed my lovely fish-Queen, demanding she learn to knit!"
Not sure that'll help. It appears to be a sewing pattern (although I may very well be mistaken)...
Is there a difference? That's women's work!
that's not important, what is is that bast knows the difference between knitting and sewing. Why?
Apologies for the horrendous Necro-post, but behold:

My Gronk. Thanks to my daughter for taking the time to make this for me.
That's awesome! Can she make one a bit bigger so Pete can fit inside for Thought Bubble ;)
Wouldn't need to be much bigger - wider maybe ....
Ha! Necroposting has become quite the thing of late around these parts... mind I'm a fan of the old necro anyway so...
Nice Gronk by the way.

Nah, a bit of KY Jelly and I should be fine...
