Howdy there you knowledgeable types. I need a free webmail account and hotmail is so last century. Can you recommend any cool alternatives?
yours on the cutting edge
Well I reccomend Gmail, though I know some folks have gaping problems with it. Snazzy sounding, tons of space... Free too, so long as someone invites you. If you fancy it sendmail me what email address you currently use and I'll pop an invite your way.
Yahoo is alright, though a little prone to spyware, which appears to target it very easily ...
I recommend it. Not reccomend....
I use Yahoo - enough space for almost any sensible use these days, and pretty free of spam. I get the occasional dictators wife e-mailing me, but not many people offering to make my member bigger.
It is a shame, for what else am I going to spend my tyrant's gold on?
"We'll all be rich. Rich as Nazis."
Yeah, I agree with GC, I've had my yahoo account for years now, I go through spates of getting the odd Spam, but it really is very little and almost always gets delivered straight into the Bulk Mail folder. You get 250MB, and I only use 2-8% of that at any one time.
When I had Hotmail I hadn't even sent an e-mail before I had 30 spams in my box after a day.
Cheers
Paul
I get about 3000 spam a day. Is that normal?

Heh - is that all M@?!?
I have two main accounts, outside of personal accounts, one a yahoo (which is plenty big enough) and a hotmail (which is now also plenty big). I don't get too much spam in either anymore, but I use the hotmail account for forms which I think are likely to give spam.
floyd - i've got some spare GMail accounts if you want one
drop me a sendmail and i'll get one sorted
thinky
I use gmail too & its excellent.
not one spam!
I realy like the 'conversation' style of archiving too.
Yahoo is good but Gmail is best Floyd. I'd send you an invite if I knew how. I have no interest in learning how.
gmail = wicked
wicked as in terrific or wicked as in evil?
I now have a gmail account, but I remain open to suggestions
My accountant is excellent, and he's male...
terrific (?)
Gmail is best Floyd but get a yahoo account for your junk mail. Give your Gmail address only to people you can trust.
"Do not be fooling around!"
i rarely get spam. is that good?
yahoo, by the way.
then again, i rarely check e-mail at all, so.........
mailinator is good for avoiding spam (yeah, like I'm an authority). You can use use any 'at' mailinator.com address for anything you need to sign-up to, and then the account self-destructs once you've picked up your mail.
Obviously this only any good for things you want to register at temporarily.

thanks for all the advice. Why give my gmail address only to people I trust?
"Why give my gmail address only to people I trust?"
So you can store all of your important mail there without filling it up with spam mail.
If you're signing onto a site and expect spam then give your Yahoo address, that way you'll always get the junk send to one place!
Seems to me that yahoo is as good as any. As pointed out 250mb space is good for most people.
I've had a yahoo account for years now & except for a recent hiccup with my ISP (ntl) it has always stood me in good stead. (but Yahoo have a deal going with BT so that is no real surprise).
