Title: Subject tag suggestion.
Post by: DavidXBrunt on 15 February, 2005, 12:21:14 AM
Don't know if this will help with the Off Topic thing but there seems to be a general opinion that some things are less off topic than others. For me a thread about comics or Sci-fi or Cult stuff would seem to be more on topic than a thread about...monkeys in hats. So would Subject titles with the headings 'Comics' or 'Cult' be of any use?

And what about the title 'Speculation' for those discussions of what's coming up in stories that well...speculate...about what's coming up? SPOILER doesn't seem to quite fit the bill somehow.

Oh, I don't know. I smell of cabbage apparantly so why should you listen to me.

I think that sounds like a good idea. How about headings for t.v and film.

Well, my twopence...
I think that there are almost enough subjects, although a "Comics" Subject would be ok for talking about non 2000ad related comics. People DO forget to use them (or don't know about their existence).

With regards to on/off topic. I have a suggestion. When you post a message, you click on the Post Message button. If there were two Post Message Buttons, one "POST ON TOPIC" and one "POST OFF TOPIC". To the end that when the message is posted on the board, The Subject tag remains as chosen, but the Message Thread Title is prefixed with either "ON TOPIC: " or "OFF TOPIC: " depending on which button was pressed. (or nothing prefix the subject if it is on topic, but if OFF TOPIC is pressed, then the prefix is added).

This is madness!

Why not dispense with posting messages altogether, and just choose from a list of several thousand loose message descriptions, picking the one that best fits what you want to say?

"Film/TV" is a step in the right suggestion, and will certainly help, though it leaves other media out in the cold a little... how about a "comics", "books" or even lumping it all together under "Media"...

An "events" category could come in handy too.

If "Suggestions" is the right category for suggestions about the site, and "admin" the right one for site announcements, then perhaps "Website" could become "Websites" and be merged with "Links".

I'm not really sure waht "Scripts" is for, behaps it could be merged with one of the others?

I think 'Scripts' was there to help identify & avoid Scojo's posts? Probably not really needed now...

I've removed Scripts, and added Books/Comics

Could someone explain to me, in simple laymen's terms, how to undo Wake's unfathomable redesign of the message board?
When I go to the database chatroom it's empty, and I can't see an obvious place to type in whatever retarded crap I'm supposed to do, to get it as it was before.
Ah, bollochs maybe this is a sign from Grud to not even bother with messages. nice one Wake.
Disgruntled and grinding teeth,
Rufus

The simple phrase that will brighten up anybody's day.

Hmmm... What we really need here is a tag called "fuck off".

This category would really come into its own when faced with some moronic boarder that constantly confuses wit with, say, oh I don't know, being a twat.  You could simply select the subject tag (fuck off) and your message could be something as simple as (insert your least favourite/annoying boarder here).

Admittedly, I'd use it more than most, but that's no reason not to include it...

Being as I'm probably the only boarder to which this would be applied, I'm against this "fuck off" tag. ;(

oy byron, stop with that crap ya hear ? people hate me more than you, me me me ya hear ?
i'm not in favor of a 'fuck off' tab, i'd prefer a 'please ignore this'

ive realised i don't actually notice tabs at all, except big old 'admin'  .

i'd like maybe two icon/personas,
bou's boots,
and some nuetral grey blokey type.
be interesting to type the same posts with both & see what different responses there were.
if i had nothing better to do like.

I never notice the category tags either.  Just the titles of threads I think I might like to read and those that I don't.  Or sometimes I get drawn to a thread because of the last person who posted, depending on whether or not I think that they're interesting/funny/going to amuse me by simple virtue of the fact that I know they'll be talking out of their arse...

Cough couch wankers?  What are they then?  Do they have anything to do with irritating little twats?

Couch wanking is what he does, when mummy has went to bed and he's watching bravo with the sound turned right down.

A quick trip to Koom Skrree will confirm for anyone interested that as of this post Dok is now off the board.

I don't know what you guys said to him in the chat room but it obviously sent him over the edge.

DoK Life Cycle

Stage 1: far too excitable and posted everywhere
Stage 2: Settled down and actually made some coherent points
Stage 3: have a mental breakdown in the chat room
Stage 4: Just roundly abuse everyone
Stage 5: Extinction

Hope he's not like that in real life and has just been pissing his brother off here

Looking forwards to the inevitable zombie phase I can only hope that it is brief and delt with quickly and with a minimum of fuss.

I tend to killfile people as soon as they exhibit the slightest possibility of a hint of Stage 1 symptoms. It's the only way to be sure.

One side effect is that for a few weeks following you see rather strange one sided arguments going on. But they wear off as well.

On occassion, enough people I respect seem to be giving someone I've killfiled the time of day so I'll unkill them.  This doesn't happen often.
