Can anyone help?
I recently bought a replacement copy of Eagle dated 1st October 1983 with a space spinner attached to the cover, exactly the same as the Space spinner given away with issue 1 of Tornado (ie not the space spinner given away with 15th October 1983). There was no mention of a free gift on the cover or in the comic. There is no mention of it in the previous week's issue. I assumed that someone had a space spinner lying around and sellotaped it to the cover of the comic to make it "more valuable".......until I looked at my original issue that I bought in 1983 which has sellotape residue on the front cover! Now I don't know whether it is a true free gift or a fake. There's no mention of a free gift in Steve Holland's book "The Fleetway Companion" but that doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't genuine.
Can anyone help???
Confused, Wirral
Tornado didnt have a space spinner given away with it it had a turbo flyer:

The 'New' eagle gave away space spinners (like the 2000AD one) with the first issue 27th March 1982 and with the 15th October 1983 edition.
The Space spinner with the first Eagle differed from the 2000AD one in its colour

The 15th Oct edition is listed on this site but doesnt have an image of the free
Space Spinner
"Tornado didnt have a space spinner given away with it it had a turbo flyer"
Should have written Turbo Flyer when I wrote Space Spinner. The 1st October edition had a Turbo Flyer sellotaped to it, exactly the same as the turbo flyer in the picture. The space spinner in the 15th October issue was different to the one given away with issue 1. It had four spikes emanating from the centre with an outer ring.
Thanks for the post anyway.
I think I have the spinner you're talking about as well, but loose so I can't immediatly see which comic it came from

I think the internet has filled in a few gaps in the last eight years...
2000AD Prog 1 (1977) - space spinner (red plastic, 0-shaped - text: "(c) I P C 1977 SPACE SPINNER")
Tornado Issue 1 - turbo-flyer (red plastic, Y-shaped with thick arms)
(new) Eagle Issue 1 (1982) - space spinner (silver plastic, 0-shaped, same design as the 2000AD space spinner - text: "(c) I P C 1982 SPACE SPINNER")
(new) Eagle (15 October 1983) - super space spinner (red plastic, cross-shaped with spindly arms and a thin ring)
