Title: I'm flying this Message Board to Cuba!
Post by: paulvonscott on 14 May, 2002, 06:36:45 AM
Nobody try and stop me!

Any of you drokkers move, or mention the spugging script and I'll shoot a hole in the side of this Message Board and you'll be squeezed out of it like toothpaste from a tube!

Ha-ha-ha, I have guns, how can I be mad?  Who would give a madman so many guns!

Hi Frazer

I cannot tell a lie, Plastikman suggest the poll.

I just thought it was such an interesting idea I had to post it up.  It would take some planning of course and it would most likely have to be a prog of one-offs.

It would be a great idea to have Testimonial progs.  Where if someone who'd drawn for 2000AD was going to retire, they got this great big prog all to themselves.  Someone like Ron Smith.  Imagine if we had testimonial progs from Eric Bradbury and Massimo Belardinelli to look back on...

Anyway, that was just a though that occured as I hit the keys, but if it was just a case of a current artist, then I'd go for someone with a distinctive style.

Cam Kennedy is someone whose name isn't mentioned enough in my books.  He does a smashing Dredd, his rogue trooper was the most exciting and alive of the lot.

To be honest I have a list of artists I love as long as my elbow, okay, Andre the Giant's elbow.  I could give you twenty names without stopping to think about it.

But anyway, I think it would produce some interesting results, casting artists on projects you wouldn't associate them with.  Imagine Ian Gibson Doing a prog of say (at random)... Dredd, Nikolai Dante, Rogue Trooper, ABC Warriors and a future shock.  Who wouldn't want to see the results?

Anyway it's probably a too exciting an idea to actually happen (is that an ickle elf on my knee?) but fun to fink about.

Cheers

Paul

I wouldn't really want to see it done with writers though as I know who would get the gig and he'd cack it all up as he always does.  I almost loathe mentioning it, lest it come to pass...

I wasn't keen on the idea of single-artist progs, but then I realised how subjective it all was.

You mentioned Ian Gibson and that was enough to change my mind.

He could even have his artistic personae doing bits - the madder style of Q Twerk and the blockier Dredd stuff of Emberton.

What a fine idea!
