Title: Prog 1290...
Post by: plastikman on 15 May, 2002, 02:06:47 AM
...d'oh - having been busy with Jimmy Corrigan and Planetary over the last week I missed out on picking up 1290 - went to my usual supplier today to find 1291 sitting there in all it's glory but no 1290.

Anyone know where i can get 1290 in the Chester area - can't be bothered shagging to Forbidden Planet in Manc (they're so bloody miserable in there anyway - and I thought Eastern Bloc was bad!!!)?

Why not try Chester Comic Co.? They might have it?

I don't know the street name but try this.

You are standing outside the Railway station. You can cross the road and go down Station Road past that big hotel that looks like a wedding cake. Don't do that. You can turn right and walk along Brook Street into town. Do that.

Keep on the road past all those charity shops and sex shops. It's the road that leads to the subway. It's a bungalow shop. No 73.

Or you could try going to Liverpool. There's a Forbiden Planet and a Worlds Apart that's practically opposite Lime Street Station. It's closer than Manc. And a cheaper rail ticket.

You ought to be prepared, young man.

Most street corners contain a fabulous facility called a thrill merchant, where each week a grumpy old weirdo will give you a funny look for buying 2K, even though you can tell it's already been read by somebody on their tea break.

That's what I put up with.

Or one or two of the posters here seem to have subscribed...

Sure subscribing is the easy way out.  But you do get your progs early (well sometimes *wink*).
I do miss the grumpy old man.  After a while he gets to expect you - one week when the deliveries were late he even went through a giant stack of newly received newspapers & magazines to dig out my prog when any normal shopkeep would just make you wait till he'd put it out on the shelves.
That was when I was one of them 'young professional' types - nice 3 piece suit & a tie.  Scrub up quite nicely I do.

David - Thanks for this - I'll head over to CCC tommorrow via the sex shops! (Useful to know about L'pool - the scousers must be friendlier than the Mancs!).

Mike - I usually brave the ridicule - i  try and give off an air of "i'm buying this for someone else" when paying!

PlastickMan, did you ever get a copy of this issue? Because I bought one on Saturday on the off chance that you didn't. If you want it send me an e-mail and I'll post it when I think on. If you got one don't worry, it was only 30p.
