Ex-Doctor Who companion Sarah Jane Smith will return in the new series of the sci-fi show, it was revealed as the Doctor's new costume was unveiled.
Popular 1970s character Sarah Jane, played by Elisabeth Sladen, will join new Doctor Who actor David Tennant.
However Rose, played by Billie Piper, will remain the Doctor's full-time companion throughout the new series.
The Doctor's "striking" new outfit consists of a striped suit, trenchcoat and trainers.Woohoo!
Link: Who? ;-)
The Cybermen will return in the new series
Yay!
the Doctor and Rose will meet Queen Victoria
Dame Judy?
and an evil race of Cat Women.
Eh?!
I never realised he was so tall:
That's rubbish. He should have an umbrella he can twirl. And a colourful cravat. And some kind of "Who" themed lapel ornament. And clown shoes...
I know the Tardis is roomy inside an' all, but he's going to have trouble just getting through the door.
Yes, an umbrella like that twat on "Coast".
I've only seen him on TV about three times and I hate him already.
Anyway, good news on Who, although I missed pretty much all of the second half of tehfirst series. There's always DVD.

Pretty nifty! It's a nice departure from Eccleston, but not too knowingly eccentric. He still looks remarkably young, but I suspect - given his acting in shows like Quatermass - he'll be able to overcome that quite easily.
The reintroduction of Sarah-Jane is interesting, and I hope it's handled well. Good to have confirmation of the return of Billie for the entire season, and I hope the chemistry between her and Tennant is as strong as it was between Rose & the Ninth Doctor.
All in all, a very promising look at the new Doctor. Cheers, LMS!
What's betting K9's on his way back through the dog flap.
Agree, he needs a bit of colour maybe a red hankerchief in his back pocket?
Oh, and I believe it's confirmed that David Tennant has been signed for the second *and* third series, so we've got at least two years of the new Doctor.
IIRC, it's also been confirmed that a sneak preview of series 2 is going to be on the season 1 boxset, and there are some episode titles for season 2 appearing already:
Episode 2 - Tooth and Claw
Episode 3 - School Reunion
Episode 8 - The Satan Pit
Episode 12 - Army of Ghosts
Given the news in the Beeb link, I suspect the "Cat Women" are going to appear in episode 2. The Cybermen are rumoured for episode 8.
looks good, i might watch it.
Yay, Anthony Head is going to appear in an upcoming episode...

Oooooh Fate! Some cheeky chap's been playing with his photoshop, you clever chicken.
:-)
Hmmm... that's very... brown?
He...wears clothes like me!
Ah, you can't be the cut of a pin stripe, and I suppose Vans'll do if you can't get Addidas, but he really should get hold of a crombie from somewhere, then he'd be sorted, suited and booted.
Looks good, though perhaps the photo they release next will be a little less brown.
Could the catwomen be related in anyway to the catpeople from,I think it was called Survival.
Hopefully not! The thinking behind that would be a little odd - crap story, from crap season? Let's do a sequel!
;-)
She's got no shadow! She's a witch!
All looks bloody good to me! I could have seen Piper bog off, but it it'll do the series no end of good to have her carry the show on.
K9 is a bit tentative, they aren't saying no, but I'm not sure about it.
Couldn't be more pleased about Sarah Jane Smith!
Might consider watching this one.
Jarvis Cocker?
Will K9 sorry K-9 be able to fly now? His laser should have improved dramatically as well you'd hope. I also miss his dry canine wit. As I said before too, he should now get a new body like Toby, snarling at the Doctor and snuggling up all cutesy with Rose. That would be [cartman mode] soooo ceeoooool.
I don't really mind how they would update K9 if they use him,as long as they don't just use cgi.
One of the things that made the first series really work was a minimum of cruft carreid over from the original Who. I'm hoping thisn;t a sign of them going back on that.
Nah, I doubt it. I suspect Sarah-Jane will be back for - at most - two episodes, and I think it's more likely to be just a single guest appearance.
Think of it in terms of how the first series treated the Daleks - an element from earlier Who brought back, but without the weight of backstory & subtly reworked for a new audience. I would expect any other returning characters (Sarah-Jane, the Cybermen) to be treated in pretty much the same way.
He...wears clothes like me!
Pretty much what I thought, though I wear boots in my suit. Still I like it...
Slips
If you call Sarah Jane Smith 'cruft' again, I'll punch ya.
looks pretty good(haven't seen the end of first series yet) pretty young looking for a Doctor and jez he is a tall looking bugger even without the photoshoppery. Cybermen yes(hopefully the design used in who monthly comic strip recently), it'd be good with Sarah Jane how long since she last saw the Doctor, I wonder if the Dr comments on her aging(she must be wrinkling a bit). Anyone know how many episodes in series 2? hopefully more than series 1 i thought 12 was a bit lean.
CU Steamboy
Presumably the Cyberman design will be pretty familiar, from the look of the head in Dalek at any rate. I'm interested in what angle they'll take on them that makes them something other than second rate humanoid Daleks.
Exactly the same number of eps - 13. If you count the Christmas special as part of season 2, that's 14.
Sarah Jane / Elisabeth Sladen looks fantastic still, and while she's obviously an older woman, we're not talking Driving Miss Daisy!
BTW - do you mean the Cybermen from (IIRC) The Flood? I hope they don't go that route. A variant of the "classic" Cyberman would be perfect:
that's my favourite cyberman design, and the only one i can draw, lol
I'd hope they go for what makes the Cybermen tragic villains: they began replacing their bodies to keep themselves alive and lost their humanity in the process.
They're not the universe-spanning totalitarian evil of the Daleks, they're intergalactic hobos driven by the need to survive, skulking in the shadows. They shouldn't amass grand fleets or attempt to conquer star systems, or proclaim some grand plan for a Cyberman Empire. They're echoes of people; dead, silver giants.
Think of it in terms of how the first series treated the Daleks
Okay, I'm imagining Sarah Jane Smith, Britain's cutest woman, whom I still love, in chains deep beneath the desert outside Utah, saying "I am alone in the universe" in a metallic voice
that brown costume looks worryingly like they're getting towards the costumes of Colin Baker and Sylvester Mckoy.....mmmmmmm
yours still enjoying new Who in Aus (we're up to the second appearance of the Slevene) and amazed at how bad the Colin Baker and McKoy shows were.
Got to disagree with you there, Floyd.
Nothing in that outfit comes close to the horror of:
Lesson: don't try to out-do Tom Baker. Or dress people like clowns.
That's an image that just makes you reach for your cosmic exterminator isn't it? Or some kind of twat-seeking cyber missile.
On the Cyberman design, presumably they will stick with the 70s design as per the Cyberman head in the "Dalek" episode?
There's a twat-seeking cyber missile?
I just love the glimmers of 'oh shit, what have I got myself into, my agent never mentioned this hidious set of rags, and making the doctor grumpy - who's idea was that' in his eyes
I'd like to see some sort of look based round the early Cybermen.
Just seen the competition that Blue Peters running. The winner gets his monster design made and it will appear on the new Doctor who.Alas its only up to age 15.Links below.

Set twat-Disintegrator to RAINBOW BEAM!
You're right that it's nowhere near the twatosity of the appalling image above, O Amstor. However, I fear that it's on the slippery slope.
More to be feared are the sort of dire stories (if you could call them that) that CB was in,
yours still recovering from renting "happiness patrol"
80s tastic!
Oh yes, putting the Doc in a costume rather than actual clothes was the start of a long downward slide but 'stunt casting' of comedians was the absolute death knell
/me panics at the thought of Bassett-monsters...
IMO, the new costume has more in common with the slightly dandyish outfits that Pertwee and Baker (the good one) wore, and is a welcome nod at the past that doesn't try desperately to emulate it.
Sensible outfit really. The ninth was done up a hardened traveller with the leather jacket and Tennant's done up as a refined tramp. Makes sense really, no home, no cash. If you yer look at him at as an intergalactic hobo then it works pretty well.
As for the K-9 rumor...I was converted to the new stuff by it not being half as dodgy as the old shows. I bloody hate that dog...
Finnigan Sinister
rather have some of this...
or this?
ho, ho...
WARNING - DON'T LINK AT WORK...
...it's a tad rude

"yours still recovering from renting "happiness patrol""
My next door neighbour was in that - apparently there was a whole different ending to that originally (and I know as I've seen the photos).
Still, must have been a bit of comedown from appearing in Grange Hill and 2001: A Soace Odyssey, though.
Larf... WTF?
Larf... WTF?
I know, I know...
...it gives a whole new flavour to Chicken Peri Peri!
Hmm... Both have played the Doctor, one's wearing a close approximation of the new costume...
Either I've had beer, or that's quite bizarre...
Beer... and the finest cake in the land!
Peri is quite clearly 'best assistant ever' as those pics prove.
Get her back, she still looks great. (oh, didn't she die? never mind...)
Yup. Definitely the beer...
I'm writing to the BBC right now!... Peri returns in Planet of the Lezzers! (ALthough given the Who mafia it'll probably end up as Adric back in Planet of the Bummers)
Perhaps there could be some kind of purist "Real Who" movement for people who liked all the stuff from the old Who that was dumped and can start making their own home movie versions of incomprehensible McCoy episodes, complete with hideous casio music and plots that only make sense if you read the provided pamphlet.
That probably exists...
See there's some new Who books out in the kiddies section of Smiths. Anyone read one (well obviously I only mean Brunt here)
That probably exists... There's a fairly accurate adaptation of The Dark Dimension online already...

I read one of the new Who books (The Clockwise Man by Justin Richards). meh, it was ok. Theres more coming in October, they look better.
