Title: Rebelstar Raiders
Post by: paulvonscott on 18 May, 2002, 12:09:48 AM
Anyone remember the classic rebelstar game from the 80's by Julian gollop for the speccy (Not rebelstar raider, rebelstar 2 or the amstrad rebelstar), best game of all time or what?  The inspiration for laser squad and UFO.

Anyway it's possible to play it over the net, using an emulator which can take snapshots and the game, then e-mailing them back and forth (48K file size - as in 48K spectrum).  Anyone who has played it in the past and thinks they could ever beat me, I challenge thee to be thrashed.

Cheers

Paul

ftp://ftp.nvg.unit.no/pub/spectrum/snaps/games/

i was told you can get spectrum games/ emulators here but i havnt checked it out yet

I guess you could go to the mame site otherwise im not sure

I like Magic Sword its kinda gauntlet but platform style and Pig skin is a good Laugh- medevial american football at its best!

Hi Arthur

Yeah I've seen it, I was on the beta test group, but it nver worked for me and I couldn't be bothered messing around with patches and stuff.

Having just discovered a way to play rebelstar over the net, I'm happy with that.

The orginal Laser Squad was an advanced version of rebelstar (just as rebelstar was an advanced version of rebelstar raiders) that came our forr the speccy, amstrad et al, it had a lot more to it, but just seemed to lack something for me.

I enjoyed UFO, but no two player game :( and I was rubbish at the overall strategy part.  X-com e-mail was great, but they closed the server down.

This new Laser Squad game does look good, I'd reccomend it to anyone for a two player strategy game with a bit more to it.  Once I have some cash I'm signing up for that baby.

Anyway thanks for the pointer Arthur.

All hail Julian Gollop!
