Title: EXTREME EDITION SUGGESTION
Post by: Rio De Fideldo on 24 September, 2005, 04:55:25 AM
The nights are drawing in, the Goose is starting to look big boned and my thoughts are staring to turn to Christmas. Which got me thinking...

I'm not sure how far in advance the films have to brought out of the archives in order to produce an Extreme Edition so this might have to be a suggestion for next year. The fact that this will never happen is neither here nor there! My idea is a Christmas edition collecting the various Christmas themed Dredd strips which have appeared over the years.

Looking through my collection there hasn't actually been that many so they could make a nice package to read, warming a brandy in one hand whilst sat in front of the fire pretending the rest of the family aren't in the room trying to watch Dale's Christmas Sack.

What follows is a list of all the stories which have appeared in Christmas Edition Progs and have a Festive Flavour. For a bit of fun lets decide what we want to see in our Hypothetical Christmas Cracker of an Extreme Edition. I've included Artist Writer info to make it easier and the number of pages. There is no prize and no winners and it no fun. Enjoy!

Red Christmas Xmas 2099 (McMahon Wagner) 6 pages

Christmas Comes to Des O'Connor Xmas 2101 (McMahon/Wagner) 6 pages

Tne Night of the Rad-Beast (Ezquerra Wagner/Grant) Xmas 2104 12 Pages

A Merry Tale of the Christmas Angel (Dillon Wagner/Grant) Xmas 2107 14 Pages

A Real Christmas Story (Robinson Wagner/Grant) Xmas 2108 10 pages

Little Spuggy's Christmas (Baikie Wagner) Xmas 2111 6 Pages

Christmas with Attitude (Ezquerra Ennis) Xmas 2114 6 Pages

I Hate Christmas (Ezquerra Millar) Xmas 2115 6 Pages (In its favour this has some nice Ezquerra art)

Christmas Angel (Brashill Wagner) Xmas 2120 16 Pages

The Goodman (Murray Wagner) Xmas 2125 12 pages (Possibly too recent to be considered)

Christmas with the Blints (Currie Wagner) Xmas 2126 12 pages (Again too recent)

Xmas Meg Stories

A Christmas Carol (Kitson Wagner) Xmas 2114 9 Pages

It's a Dreddful Life (MacNeil Morrison/Alexander) Xmas 2115 18 Pages

Turkey Shoot (Kennedy/Flint Wagner) Xmas 2125 16 Pages
(Too recent)

Fat Christmas (Higgins Wagner) Xmas 2126 17 Pages (Too recent again)

Other Xmas Tales

The Santa Affair (Ranson Grant) Xmas 2111 6 Pages

Christmas is Cancelled (Ewins Millar) Xmas 2112 9 Pages (Not such great Ewins art IMO)

Christmas Party (Page Unknown) Xmas 2099 8 Pages (Bishop may have dissed it in the Dredd Files but it's got that kind of drunken what the drokk Christmas Office Party vibe to it that should be seen be everyone)

I was considering adding 'To Thing With Love' which although featuring Christmas styled action wasn't in a Christmas Prog and also wasn't set during Christmas. It is sweet however.

Another thing which could be added would be some of the New Year's stories which have also featured during the years such as 22nd Century Futsie, New Year is Cancelled etc. There is more but I couldn't be bothered to look them up.

Anyway that's my suggestion. What does everyone think. Which stories would you like to see included?

Ho Ho Ho!

The Des O Connor story isnt set at christmas either, and To Thing with Love is one of my top ten Dredds, so go with it!

Bloody hell - that Millar Christmas is Cancelled tale... I think it may be one I've successfully deleted from memory... hurrah!

Dont forget to include the Daily Star Christmas tales

A goodish idea, Dredd 85.
There are quite a few Dredd stories that could be usefully ee'd. The ones that haven't been reprinted elswhere for a start.
Also themes would be good; funny Dredd stories, stories about cits and so on

A splendidly tip top suggestion, though I'd like a variety of Christmas stories, not just Dredd. Haven't we had a festive Tharg, Santa-dressed Sin Dex, Bauble bedecked Bradly, and that lovely Slaine where he discovered the true meaning of Christmas and Ukko dressed up as the little baby Jesus.
