I've actually got off my lazy arse and booked my flights so I'll be going to the Expo, are any other boarders going ?
Cheers
Mark
I'm there, dude.
er, i'm all booked up, but like, in four days any amount of shit can happen.
however, i suggest you bring some of your nice art work mr skull-ring... oh yes, a mcmahon prehaps? and we MUGG you for it.
If i make it i'm easy to spot, usually have a troll or two following me around snikkering & making snide remarks.
I'm there. Check out the FQP (and friends) table - and buy our various wares...
Both myself and Mini-bolt will be in attendance. Should be a great weekend.
Bolt-01
Looking less and less likely that I will able to make even one day :(
Too much flat crap to sort out in the one weekend herself is around this month...
Hi Bou, I'm afraid I won't be bringing the McMahon page with me, sorry. As an extra precaution I have confirmed that Mr. Dayglo will also be attending so there's no risk he'll be robbing my place whilst I'm away :-)
Mr Usher & Bolt-01 (and of course Mini-Bolt), it would be cool to meet up, if even for a quick chat. I'll be hanging out with Jon and Steve Turner (Jon is bringing his kids too). The most likely place to find me/us will be a Rufus's stall (I assume that he'll be selling artwork). Just look for the shaven headed short arse wearing a lot of skull ring (strangely enough).
Cheers
Mark
"shaven headed short arse wearing a lot of skull ring..."
Hmm. That certainly narrows it down. So, it's the skull ring that's the most salient clue, then?
;-)
Mark's not a short arse either. Although I won't be seeing him, as i'll be robbing his gaff instead... ;-) R
be there be square.
I will be being square that weekend :)
nngnh...
I'll be there. The usual look - badly shaven comics artist who's stupidly tall with looong curly hair.
Probably be seen bothering Bolt and Byron (again).
Oh yeah, I'm in MQ with a story by WoD and there should be an article in Redeye 5 on some art terrorist thing I did that I encouraged other people to do. I'm not proud.
I can't decide if I should shave off my beard before I go or not.
Don't you want people to recognise you from your Anderson appearance?
Also, the more of your case that you can cover up the better (even with a tidly little pencil-thin thing that you sport on your bonce). I don't suppose you'd consider wearing a burkha, would you...?
i can't decide wether to go or not.
My burkas in the wash and the demons will need feeding.
Not much point in going if Bou's not going to be there...I say we all stay at home and mope, if that be the case.
Hoping to be there on the Sat with chq book ready to get some decent artwork... and hopefully won't have to sell a kidney on the way back to pay for it......
I'm bringing a folio of art to the expo. If anyone wants to see stuff (by Senors Flint, Ezquerra, Robinson,Gibbons,Dillon,Hairsine,Leach etc)drop me an email so we can arrange to meet!
Rufus D.
Rufus, drop by the FQ stand will you? always nice to say hi.
Bolt-01
I wont be attending the con but it's my firm intention to break into one of your houses and rdecorate in your absence.
Could you do mine? I've been meaning to redecorate for some time...
Well, it's only down the road, it'd be rude not to...
I'll have to wait an' see what the pub overlord has in store for the weekend though.
Count me as a 'hopefully'
xTGx
I'm going with other the two other British based Nexus writers (one scot and one greek).
Hopefully, I'll actually be able to find some of you guys this time (unlike Bristol).*
*Except Bolt that is, who very kindly lent me the first 40issues of crisis.
Will
No worries. Was nice to get them back at Dreddcon.
Drop by the FQ table, say hi and buy some quality comics.
Bolt-01
Or buy some of ours, even.
First 40 issues of Crisis - surely no-one deserves that kind of punishment (other than The New Adventures of Hitler and Straitgate, which were actually rather good).
I quite liked Bible John. A commendable experiment in telling a story through the hippy hogwash that is psychic geograpy, but interesting to read at the time.
Lucky that you say that, really...
I shall be there on Saturday, if only to bug JonO101 then get him drunk.
"No worries. Was nice to get them back at Dreddcon.

Bolt-01"
You bet.
Will
well despite the rather frenzied attack by thrill suckers this week, i AM heading off to brighton in a bit.
If anyones mean to me i shall vomit on them & then at least i can jump off the pier which will be a pleasant change from jumping off the mountain cliffs.
i'm the one whos aged 50 years since last any of you saw me.
s'gonna be a Beautiful flight down tho, look at those skys !
"well despite the rather frenzied attack by thrill suckers this week, i AM heading off to brighton in a bit."
Yay!
I'd best be off myself in a little while.
"at least i can jump off the pier which will be a pleasant change from jumping off the mountain cliffs."
Wasn't there some kind of tradition about jumping off the end of Brighton pier?
i wouldnt do any gung ho dare type things around me, especially if ive had a half pint, i laugh in the face of danger & stupid OTT stunts, and a swim in the filthy polluted scum seas of engerlandshire is the last thing my stomach needs.
very sickly Bou.
p.s who of you makes a good nurse? please pack xtra sick bags.
I wouldn't jump off a pier if I were you - very dangerous drags as a result of the water crashing around the actual wooden supports.
As for being sick, I'd hang around Molcher, as he's a sickly child once again, and one can only assume that he's beginning to acquire a taste for it...
Ummm, anyone know what time it opens on Sunday?
Will Cooling: First customer of the weekend.
Bolt-01
It was a good weekend...even if I'll never be able to look at a Flash comic ever again - thanks Mr Ewing!
Or Green Lantern, or batman for that matter.
Bolt-01
'luckily' I missed the BatMan, but unluckliy my now warped brain can sketch a suitable image all on it's own...
Did Rebellion have a good presence at the con?
--Grant
If by 'good' you actually mean 'none', then yes, they had an excellent presence ...
none at all...was commented on by a lot of people and not people from this board...it was a shame though...
Ummm, oh dear.
AHEM!
I beleive I was there unless I'd slipped into an alternate dimension.
Also, our distributor Turnaround had a huge stack of GNs and some great promotional posters.
I dunno, you guys must have spent all your time in the badly lit Pavillion Cafe or ogling the Dalek.
I thank you.
Rebellions no-show.
One of the companys Dez Skinn said couldn't afford to come down?...
Was kind of suprised to see the only big time company was Marvel UK/Panini.
Well, you didn't come and say hello, so how do we know if you're there?!
The selection of GNs was very nice indeed but, to be fair, if there's not a stand that says 'Rebellion' or '2000AD' then as far as expo-goers are concerned, you didn't have a 'presence'.
Before you dismiss us on this, please bear in mind this isn't 'those pesky messageboarders' mumbling and complaining as usual, this is what non-mesgboard expo-goers and various pros were openly saying to us, unprompted and with increasing volume. So, I'm sorry Jon, you may well have been there but if people can't see a Rebellion or 2000AD stand then that creates the impression that you weren't.
I don't want to end up getting berrated in the Damage Report or branded as an ungrateful troublemaker for this, but I'm afraid as far as the majority of people attending Brighton were concerned - 2000AD weren't there.
Yo !
rebellion presence
yes i bought GNs from turnaround, but had no idea they were representing 2000ad, or in fact that those gorgeous posters were for sale or i'd have bought 2.
i will back LMS up here, as i had creator/ droid types even asking me why rebellion werent represented & whats going on etc ... yes they also read this board more than the hive think, & take on board the comments herein, but lets face it they have professional issues to consider so are unlikely to get wadeing in.
general Bou-type burble
BIG BIg thankyou to the boys & girls who rescued poorly me from the demons & stopped me getting straight onto the next coach/plane/train home. By saturday night i'd managed to eat something & felt human enough to enjoy the rest of the w/e.
big hugs to all, what a lovely bunch comix people are !
i may not have got many sketches this time, or seen ANY talks, or met all the droids i latterly realise were there, BUT have a huge stack of quality comics, new contacts, some well funky projects ticking along & a head full of CraaaaZy creative ideas... But mostly, enough good vibes off great people to survive the thrill-suckered winter.
xx
hurry up and have a con in Melbourne, so I can have a chance to borrow 40 issues of Crisis off someone
Melbourne, shmelbourne, I'm telling you, Jonathan, Atlanta's Dragon*Con has a gigantic exhibitor's hall. Dark Horse was there two months ago and was selling graphic novels like hotcakes. Come on down in 2006!
--Grant
[sarcasm]
New comic title idea: "Turnaround AD".
[/sarcasm]
I did see your name in the Expo book Jonathon, but you never made yourself known to us. We'd like to meet you and say hi.
Bolt-01
Obviously I would have liked to have met more fans and got their feedback, so apologies if it seems I was aloof. I did make sure that I lingered by our Turnaround display fairly regularly and I was on a panel at 1pm Sunday where I gave an update on what we are doing. Anyhew, any questions concerning GNs etc can always also be put to me here.
I saw Jonathan, he was wearing a dawn of the dead t-shirt.
he also needs an icon!
That was me!
Jonathan,
Are there any plans to reprint the Judge Dredd stories from the annuals and the Sci-Fi Specials in the Complete Dredd Case Files? That wonderful McMahon Cursed Earth story with that "Chickenhead" mutie really needs to be seen again!
--Grant
Hi Grant
At the moment that all depends on space. The Case Files are massive books anyway but where the page count permits it I have been inserting the odd extra. Obviously all kinds of bonus material has been considered. Case Files 01 has got slightly more than 02 in that we have some of the Walter The Wobot strips and the first Dredd story, which wasn't originally published in 2000AD. Also there are some covers. In Case Files 02 space was much more limited, so the extra material only runs to a covers gallery.
All The Best
Jon
Hi Jon, I've got original art from those 81-82 Annuals you know if you ever need them scanned.
2000AD really does need a PROFESSIONAL presence at these things.
Not one fella hanging off the end of "Turnaround"s table. No offence to you.
We (artists, writers, former droids etc) all thought it was another non show by Rebellion.
Which to be honest ,has pretty much been the case at the last few Bristol Cons, were Rebellion's Rep at the time told me he couldn't 'be fackin bothered' setting up shop. Which left fans wondering what was going on, and a few stray artists to save the day (stand up Boo,Dom.Jock,Fraz etc) and sketch for people at a completely undecorated table.
Not really the Galaxy's Greatest Advertisement is it?
Where were the banners? The free prog in every bag? Stickers, Postcards? Ads in the Con book? 2000ad signing events?
Come on.....
You know all the artists and writers will help.
We do, For free at Dreddcon.
Rufus , nailing his proclamation to Tharg's door....
Thumbs up to all the Droids who were at the expo though...as always, top peeps, friendly too.
Hi All
I don't post much at all so now's the time as a none poster. I went to Brighton on Sunday and didn't see anything from rebellion at all. Very strange. I'm so sure that just a poster up with a bloke dressed up as Dredd would be better then what we had.I had to go out of the show to a local comic shop(a bloody good shop as it is) to buy 2000ad novels that I wanted.Back at the show.John Burns was sitting all on his own with no pr behind him.I spoke to him for about 20mins fantastic time spent but he could have been busier if 2000ad had been there for pr.It?s not like this was some shoddy comic day. This was a good comic convention
Come on 2000ad.I'm a big fan of your and seeing that you say your the best,I thought not being there was piss poor.
Garry
favourite line of the weekend 'hulk will suck own cock!'
haha
This thread's making me doubt the existance of Tharg.
*sniff*
'I had to go out of the show to a local comic shop(a bloody good shop as it is) to buy 2000ad novels that I wanted.'
to be fair - ALL the rebellion / 2000AD trades were for sale at the stand jonathan mentioned. fantastic they looked too.
good to see everyone!
jock
The 'annual' style GNs looked the 'real dogs'.
maybe theres a secret war with thrill suckers in outer.. er... the horsehead nebula wotsit.
prehaps he was wearing some cloak of magical invisibility whereby he spys omnipresent, preparing rigellian hotshots for all those who diss his empire & scowling, invisibily at the other publishers with shit-hot shiney glossy stands. He appears to have snuck a couple of free progs in my goodie bag tho, so he clearly does exist...somehow, somewhere.
So you were the chap in the Dawn of the Dead t-shirt? That drew a lot of envious comments from a wide range of people.
we shoulda mugged him for it. and those posters, i WANT the langley one.
That drew a lot of envious comments from a wide range of people.I got the same when I wore mine at a Fantomas gig earlier in the year. No idea why. I just ordered it online. It *is* a great shirt, though. :)
Yeah I have that shirt as well and i've never had any envious comments towards it.
It is a cool shirt though
Jonathon, I did see you then. Should have said 'Hi' though.
We 'are' a FutureShock Fanzine afterall.
Bolt-01
Just to say I had a great time hanging out with Jock, Boo, Dom, Andy, that guy who writes X-Men Unlimited who's name I forget (sorry), Frazer, Si, Jon, Al and all the other guys who let me get drunk and loud :)
Have to say it has whetted my appetite for Cons, it being my first one other than Dreddcon. I expect I may even stay overnight at somepoint!
So, when is the next one guys?
if you were hanging out with them i probably talked to you, who were you?
I was the bearded guy with dark hair. Blue shirt, black coat.
Did you come to the curry house with us?
no, i was at the table where you all congregated on your return.
Garamin...do you have a hint of the Al Ewings about your look by any chance?
There were three huge new and professionally produced 2000AD posters at the Turnaround stall plus most of our stock. Also there were two free progs in the goody bags. Certainly were in the one I got anyway. Also there was a full page, colour 2000AD ad in the convention booklet which I was in. Also I was on a panel on Sunday. Sorry if anyone felt missed out, will make more of a point of doing the rounds more next year.
Jon
"do you have a hint of the Al Ewings about your look by any chance?"
I guess you could say that, but shorter hair and no glasses.
Also no ability to draw rude pictures of superheroes.
Not the man I'm thinking of then...
Were you the guy who was talking about putting his book online, or the one with ginger hair?
Putting my book online.
Ah right, now I've placed you. My missus was sat next to Dom and I was sat next to her ...
Ah right.
Where did you two go?
I went to the loo then out to get cash, then got lost and forgot which restaurant we were in.
By the time I returned you had gone.
We had an early night as we'd been selling all day and had another long day of selling ahead (plus the missus wasn't feeling too well)
Great curry though, and was nice to chat to Dom about Serenity!
Hi everyone. I am recovering from a gardening accident at the moment (no, really!), so I can't spend much time on the net at the moment. I am actually having to dictate this message to a third party... I will return to the message board later in the week, when I can see again. Have got some great convention pics to share as well!
Gardening Incident...pull the other one!! Mrs HoU's been beating on you...
Heyyyy!!! My eye's better now. I've got a bunch of convenion pics to start posting on a new thread. Just wondering if anyone's got a hint on how to post TWO or more pictures at once, as I've not done that before.
Does anyone have a piccy of me...I'm the one who was running the blooming table!!!!!!!!
What? You mean... you didn't take your camera with you, Mark? Sorry mate, I was probably collecting sketches with my nephew most of the time you were at the table. Ooops.
Grrr..that'll teach me...
note to self...do NOT let people stash bags behind table...grrrrr
use the html code <img src=image url>
It's the second one under the thumb, with the word 'tag' next to it.
Max
"thumb" ??
why who are those devilishly handsome gentlemen !
I think that photograph could run as a caption competition for at least a year...
Byron & Rac are clearly in love.
Certainly was a 'Kodak Moment'.
Why do all their hands disappear behind each others arses except Byron, who not only has someone doing that for him but has also tried to do it on himself...
