So what are you playing at the moment?
The Black Mirror & Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green
Trauma Centre: Under the Knife for the Nintendo DS, and The Warriors on the PS2.
Trauma Centre is a quirky little surgery game that puts you in the shoes of a young doctor and asks you to perform various operations. It's got a fun little story about genetically-engineered viruses being released by medical terrorists and plenty of sweaty-palmed surgical action - but it is *bastard* difficult at points.
The Warriors is another Rockstar title, based around the film of the same name. It's more Manhunt than Grand Theft Auto, and while it has some fun moments, the gameplay itself is fairly rough & repetitive, and the controls & camera are a bit shoddy.
I'm *really* looking forward to getting my hands on Mario Kart DS, which looks to be the best version of the series so far, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, a bizarre, comedy lawyer-sim.
Nintendogs is bizarrely compeling on the DS.
Nintendogs and Yoshi Touch and Go on the DS. These are fun and strnage and not normal games.
Dawn of War on the PC.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 on PS2

Scratch "bizarrely" and drop in "utterly" - and that reminds me, I must wash & walk my dogs in a wee while...
Slips --
If you like Touch & Go, track down a copy of Kirby: Canvas Curse. It takes what was great about T&G and turns it into a proper game - one of the best DS games of the year, and that's up against some bloody stiff competition.
Amstor: I hope you mean your game dogs, and not that you're so addicted to the game that you've forgotten about your own flesh and blood cainines
Heh, no I do mean the Nintendogs - Pertwee & Baker, my chocolate lab & German Shepherd :-)
Im looking forward to this one.
Res.Evil4
Well, if you had a GameCube, you could have been playing it for months now...
/me pimps the 'Cube ;-)
Pheh. Good things come to those who wait.
;)
Currently waitng with baited breath on a review copy of Res 4.
Playing Spartan Total Warrior again, as for the second time, my youngest wiped my save file...
I'm giving Resi 4 a go on the PS2 at the moment, and it's not actually that bad a conversion. Graphics look a bit flatter, and the textures aren't as detailed, but it's okay. More extra content once you finish it, too, as well as a vastly enlarged Operation Ada game. Cold Fear covered much the same ground as this though, and it's been out on PS2 for months now, so it should be pretty cheap second-hand.
Gunstar Super Heroes (although it's called Gunstar Fighting Heroes in the UK) is a great remake of the Megadrive classic for the Gameboy Advance, although it ends all too soon with only seven levels.
Liberty City Stories on PSP is a bit 'flat' though. It just doesn't grab you as much as it should, and is really nothing more than an impressive curiousity for the hardened GTA fanboy.
Looking forward also to ;Prince of Persia 3
- The Worriers
- Battyfront II
Prince of persia is not impeded by its terrific soundtrack as I bet the other two fill all the regiminges of what good games are al abaht.
Hm. After the disappointing Prince of Persia: Warrior Within - what a mess, after such a wonderful first game - I'm not going to rush out to pick up The Two Thrones.
The Warriors is worth a look, especially if you like the movie, but I'd advise renting first. As I mentioned earlier, the controls & camera are ropey, and there are other technical issues - loooong loading times, primarily - that I found very irritating.
IMO, Rockstar are stagnating at the moment, and The Warriors hasn't done anything to chang my mind. They seem to be aiming for atmosphere over gameplay, and I'm finding that less satisfying with each new title.
As always, your mileage may vary.
well I've let my Nintendogs die(well I dont know if they're actually dead, I just haven't touched the thing for more than a month) and I'm really enjoying Spartan Total Warrior on my Cube which is strange as I'm not a fan of the Dynasty Warriors games. Supprisingly not much I'm waiting for I think my next must have is going to be Zelda and thats not out till next year :(

They'll be covered in fleas, thirsty & hungry and they'll have to be reacquainted with your voice, but they shouldn't be dead - oh, and they may have run away, but they'll come back if you play for a bit :-)
If you're looking for a 'Cube title to tide you over, try Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Super Mario Strikers or Battalion Wars. They're all pretty damn good games, and they'll see you through for a bit. It's always worth raiding the second-hand baskets as well, because there are plenty of interesting, low-key titles for the GameCube
haven't heard of Battalion wars is that what the Cube version of Advance Wars is called now?
Good thing about the Cube, the few third party titles that do get released are usually $20 or $30 cheaper than the ps2 or Xbox versions down here, best saving so far - Ultimate Spiderman for Cube $49.95 for Xbox or PS2 its $89.95. DAmn didn't know Gunstar Heroes was out on the Advance, must find, the original is only my favorite 2D game of all time.

REcently I've been playing FEAR, Quake 4 and Battlefront 2 for PC, all are quite lovely!
Asked for Call of Duty 2 from Mrs Pete for Chrimbo but I WANT IT NOW!!!
Pete.
Been playing Resi 4 on PS2 a lot.
Also been playing my brother's copy of Smackdown vs Raw 2006, which is shite (Yukes have ruined it). I've convinced him to return it on Friday in order to get Soul Calibur 3. (Although that looks somewhat shark-jumpy to me).
Hey, Slips,
I was wondering what that Dawn of War is like?
Whats it like?
Has it come down in price yet?
Cheers
Carl.
Mostly been playing Burnout Legends on the PSP with a bit of Taito Legends on the XBOX.
I want to play GTA: Liberty City Stories but I really don't want to upgrade my firmware to do so. Think of the homebrew...
World of Warcraft - still (coming up to a year now - currently on the 'farm the Molten Core for epic armour' level :D)
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
Steve
Bear: is the Gunstar Heroes game you were talking about the proper sequel or the update? I'm considering getting a GBA or DS just for that.
Ello, newbie here.
I've been playing:
Matrix Path of Neo: Looks a bit rough but the combat is pure genius. Makes you feel like a super hero which is what it should do. Rest of the game is patchy tho.
Gun: Decent cowboy GTA alike with a really nice atmosphere and some pretty good shooting.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: Great multi player its like Ghostbuster meets Gauntlet:)
Toberts
I'm playing:
Prince of persia: Sands of time
Advance wars 2
Fire emblem (GBA version)
Neverwinter nights (also trying to make my own crappy module using the cool editor)
Warioware inc. Still.
And Nethack. Always.
Pro Evo 5 whenever I get a chance.

Which version of Warioware? Touched? The 'Cube version? Twisted?
Unbelievably, I bought Ultimate Spiderman on a whimthe other week. I don't know what I was thinking about, to be honest...
reviews are there for a reason Matt....
Just finished The Black Mirror, and I'm now playing - Post Mortem, Jack the Ripper, Midnight Nowhere and Simon the Sorcerer 2. Also just about to start In Memoriam.
Joolz
Christ I hate that Ultimate Spider-Man game with a passion. Stupid chases all over the shop, and the chases were the worst thing about the previous games.
Buy one of the earlier games on the cheap. Much more entertaining. Until you have to fight Doctor Octopus.
Thing is- I hardly *ever* buy games. last game I bought was The Getaway and before that, Vice City.
I just saw it in the supermarket and thought "why not?"
Of course, now I know why not...
;)
"Why not?"
Because there's a shitload of cheapo games doing the rounds on the second-hand market, and I, for one, am always kicking myself when I see games for which I paid over thirty quid - near their launch date - going for about a fiver in the local Blockbuster's ex-rental bin. Most of these games cost roughly the same to put together and market as a U2 album, so why one costs 15 quid and the other 35, I'm not sure - but I'm buggered if I buy a forty quid game on impulse these days. I'm better off just waiting a year till the sequel comes out, then buying the earlier version for next to nothing.
Yer cheeky wee bollocks!
At least *I* don't get scared and jump out of my skin like a big girl when *I'm* playing games. ;p
Still playing Total War: Rome and Mafia...
I,ve been playing alot of demos lately. The latest ones ia have are Darwinia. It's pretty hard to describe ,but it's a virtual world populated by little green beings, who are reincarnated when they die. The stuff that they learned is fed back in to the system and they come back adjusted accordingly. It's pretty interesting in that perspective. In the demo, you gotta lead them across four islands that are infested with red viruses which can destroy them. You have to make soldier units to fight virus's and officer units to lead the green ones which are your population. There's also engineer units whcih can retreive data floating around the landscape that can be used as upgrades. They alsso fix biulding & including the link up satelite dishs that can transport your darwinians to different islands. On the last iisland in the demo, there is a spaceship which needs refeueling, by fixing and manning the fuel cells on each island. End of demo. Therest of the game does sound very interesting.
Another demo, I liked was 'Total Overdose' it's a frankenstein's monster of game taking ideas from other games like Max payne ( bullet time dodging.) , Tony Hawk Skateboarding, (Stunts without the skateboard.) any of the better fighting games that involved combos and borrowong heavily from GTA. ( Except the cars don't accerlerate as fast.) Still it's a grat demo and interwstingf game involving one ex-cop dude whos looking for the killer of of his father. It's set in Mexico & the music is very Mexican as well.
Shockingly haven't been seen playing 2D beat em' ups much (last one I tried was Hyper Street Fighter on the X Box. It's actually seems fairly well suited to 2D beat em ups.)
Finished a copy of D Vs D I got for a fiver new (for a fiver a mediocre game semed a good deal - far too disjointed and plain though). Smash Bros Melee is a foul eater of time and when I've time I'm playing Advance Wars DS and SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters Clash. The latter is seriously addictive.
After a whole year im still playing Halo 2 online. Im hooked and its taken over my life. Kill me now! Pro Evo 5 gets a look in but its poo compared to 4 i reckon!
"Pro Evo 5 gets a look in but its poo compared to 4 i reckon!"
Im quickly comin roun to your way of thinkin. I thought I just had to get used to it but think it might not be as good.
Noooo, I said I wanted it for my birthday. Admittedly I've still got 1! Played 2 which was nice, never seen 3 or 4. You just assume the next one's going to be an improvement, but no, it's just another release to keep up with FIFA 2120.
So should I see if it's been bought yet and get 4 instead?
If youve never played 4 then you wouldnt know the difference so id buy the newest title but i hammered 4 and just feel that online it just doesnt cut the mustard!
If youve never played 4 then you wouldnt know the difference so id buy the newest title but i hammered 4 and just feel that online 5 just doesnt cut the mustard!
That's true I guess. Never even played 3 so should be a step up regardless. Wouldn't be playing online really so that shouldn't make a difference. PS2 I'll be getting it for incidentally.
Other than that, I'm impatiently awaiting Race Driver 3, despite the glaring omission of the BTCC once again.
Oh, finished God of War too. Not too shabby at all, although it shoved me back to easy level without me noticing at one point, which pissed me off somewhat. Makes the fighting much easier, all because I died loads of times in a particularly tricky underwater trap thing!
peatsbeats-what's your Gamertag? I'm Kircough. I still play lots of HALO 2 online. I'll have to paste you sometime...
Is no-one playing Civilization IV? Or Hearts of Iron II?
Good old fashioned turn-based (or a slow as near-as) strategy. That's where it's at!
I'm still waiting to be allowed to buy either of these. Too much work on.
I want to get 'Half Life 2' on the Xbox. I'm not fussed about buying the Xbox 360 anymore because 'Oblivion' and 'Final Fantasy XI' have been delayed till next year. 'GTA' on the PSP has surprised me that someone thought it was a curiousity. I thought that game was meant to be good! Surprisingly, there's little AAA titles coming out the Christmas.
Heh...Kircough is NEVER around when I'm on...he must fear my skllz (is that how the kdz sp34k these days?)
Had a go on StarWars Battlewhatsits 2 earlier - twas VERY good...not brave enought to try the multiplayer online yet though...
GTA on the PSP has surprised me that someone thought it was a curiousity. I thought that game was meant to be good!
Well, much of what I've heard so far has been fairly lukewarm. Load times are reported to be a killer, and it seems to be a console game shunted onto a handheld system, with all the problems of differing styles of play that entails. Add to that the - IMO - quickly-growing-stale gameplay, and it's perhaps not quite the killer app the PSP needs.
"Is no-one playing Civilization IV? Or Hearts of Iron II? "
Playing Civ IV at the moment mixed with Football Manager 2006 and The Movies.
Civilization's as good as always though the maps feel smaller this time round - especially when I've got the Spanish or Russians as neighbours. They both seem to hate me with a passion no matter which civilization I play as. Unfortunately it seems to have a memory leak and things can get veerrry slow towards end-game and when your neighbours keep popping up with friendly demands.
They've helpfully included an in-game clock and alarm this time though so you can see exactly how many hours you've been telling yourself "just one more turn".
Anyone played Star Wars Galaxies since it was completely changed? Tried downloading the demo a couple of times to see how many Jedi wanabees are running around now but it keeps freezing with 20mins left.
"you can see exactly how many hours you've been telling yourself "just one more turn"."
I had that problem last night playing CivIII. I found myself on a large island and wanted to make sure that I filled it up as quickly as possible. I built cities until my girlfriend banged on the door.
Load times on GTA LCS are not intrusive, not for me anyway.
WoD -- How do you play? On the go, or at home?
mostly at home, on the couch, while the better half is watching something on housing or the like - sometimes on the plane, etc.
Playing Civ years ago... "Well that's the sun coming up, better get some sleep... nah time for another go"
Similar thing with Alpha Centuri (IIRC), just having one go while away with work at 9:30 at night...next thing it's gone 3...
King Kong is quite fun, if undemanding. It's sort of a walk through the movie's plot, with additional action sequences where you fight the various human and monster inhabitants of Skull Island.
Looks lush, too.
I just bought Shadowrun for the SNES yesterday and am lookin forward to battering in at the weekend. I lurve my SNES.
