Title: Peculiar Sketches...
Post by: pauljholden on 20 December, 2005, 03:28:20 AM
You know the oddest sketch I have my little tiny collection of sketches?

David Lloyd's drawing of Dredd punching V in the face.

Also a Frank Quitely drawing of Flex Mentallo squeezing out a little guff.

Top that.

An adaptation of Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea series, apparantly.
Odd choice, I suppose, but the preview image available on their website looks nice.

I recently bought a page of the second series of Shakara off Rufus.

There's a rough pen sketch by Henry showing three figures morphing/falling through space(?) on the reverse.

I'll post it up if you're interested..

Realised I won't be around for the next couple of weeks after tonight-

You know damn right we're interested.

If I had access to a scanner I'd post the one's I got at Dreddcon and elsewhere over the last couple of years. Oddest? Judge Duck. He's a duck. He's also the law. Thanks for that one Mr. Fabry?

My favourite? Too many to say but the first one I ever got was from Jock. I wondered what his version of Tharg would look like. With no reference material to hand, and never having drawn him it was a tough request. Q - What would Jocks version of Dredd look like? A - Zarjaz!

Most jaw droppingly brilliant - The pencil, ink, and paint wash portrait of Ravne from Dom Reardon. I always thought he was good. Seeing that confirmed that he's great.

Biggest missed opportunity - Talking to Gary whilst Ian Gibson and Carlos Ezquerra set up their pads. Carlos sketched for Gary and instead of queing up for one from Carlos I asked for a sketch from Ian. In the 30 seconds it took him to draw Sam Slade the Carlos queue had grown beyond belief. Buggery buggery bugger. I loved the Slade but Ian was so quick I could have got it anytime.

Quitely sketches are often weird, I think.

I have one of a bearded man with painful piles hanging out of his arse, and another of a woman with enormous tits.

Both are great, though.

Oddly enough I drew the very same thing recently for a boarder who helped me with recent PC problems.
