/slow golf clap.

Careful there, people will think you've got some kind of motor control problem.

If you're looking for decent free fonts for use in small press titles, Blambot have a bunch of good ones (http://www.blambot.com) which they'll let you use.

Hurrah!  Cheers, Pete.

Not that I've been looking for that Catwoman font for *that* long, mind.

Anime Ace seems to be the most popular (and probably the best) for small press lettering.

Verbotten for small press: Comics Sans, just using a regular sans serif font for dialogue, going overboard and using too many "novelty" fonts on one page.

Anime Ace is fine if all you want is upper-case, but useless if the writer has pointed out words in the script that need highlighting or emphasis.
AA is also pretty boring, as every bugger seems to be using it these days, but not fiddling with it to get any effects or owt, which to me says that most lettering is viewed as a sort of "I get this out of the way and I can start printing"-type task, which shouldn't really be the case.  Experimentation is the name of the game - if you're stuck doing the job, you may as well excercise a bit of creative thinking with the tools you've got, rather than forcing yourself to go through the motions to produce the usual 'so-so' and never getting any enjoyment out of it.
It's only small press, after all - it's not like it'll amount to anything.

/hopes no-one notices Comic Sans is about all he ever uses

I've been using 'Digital Strip' for a while.  No lower case, but I quite like it.

I got 'slow golf clap'.  I even smiled...

I've been using 'Digital Strip' for a while

But what were you using for everything before that? Hmmm?

Verbotten for small press: Comics Sans

I use digital strip for regular lettering as well. The use of bold to add emphasis in the words is nice.

Well, I've used WhizBang! for years, it's steep ($38) but has upper/lowercase/bold/italic/bold+italic and international characters.

I think I purchased it originally 7 or 8 years ago so it's averaged out about $5 per year :)

Heh- I look at my early lettering and cringe about it more than the artwork!

That's a nice font.  Are you allowed to use it for whatever you like, or are there restrictions on it?  Could you use it professionally (proper comic work), for example?

From the site:
"WhizBang provides a great simulation of comics lettering that can meet the needs of amateur, semi-professional and commercial comics publishers alike"

So, while there's no actual terms and conditions on the site certainly I'd be very surprised if you couldn't use it professionally (it might be a little 'generic' for most peoples tastes - but conversely that's exactly why I like it).

Have used Digital Strip, Zudjuice and Mighty Zeo with some reasonable results.

Getting to grips with (amongst other things) Font Lab 4 at the moment.

If you have any kind of artistic inclination and a Wacom tablet it's worth tracking it down on *insert file share site here*

Increase resolution, or save the image file to your comp.

Must remember to watch that inking video before it disappears. Tonight, definitely...

You'll be pleased to know that it's not going to disappear.

re: cut off of images - I'll try and resolve that for future strips, in the meantime you can drag the image to your address bar and it should display the image on its own (at least that works on mine)
