So I was stuck on a broken-down bus this morning and thinking, as you do in such situations, what nifty new methods could the galaxy's greatest employ to promote itself to the unthrilled masses?
Podcasting could be a good'un, I reckon. An interview with a droid, a rundown of forthcoming thrills from Tharg and a plug for any forthcoming events, all wrapped up in a monthly programme. I can't guess how much hassle this would be to set up, but if people are being interviewed for the Meg anyway it could be as easy as just switching on an extra recorder.
Or how about doing something similar, but with video? Now, I freely admit that I have no idea how difficult it would be to have a computer-animated Tharg plugging upcoming thrills and previewing artwork, but since Rebellion have already done Dredd and Rogue they might be able to customise chunks of existing code rather than doing everything from scratch. This strikes me as the sort of thing Rebellion could excel at (we are talking about a sci-fi comic backed by a games developer, after all) plus I don't think anyone else is doing anything like it yet. Of course, there's probably a very good reason for that, but there you go.
So, yeah. Anyone know what it'd take to arrange something like this, or have any more prog-plugging ideas?
Good idea, Thursday.
I'm sure that The Mighty One would love to have some fantastic advertising stunts like this, but is probably limited by both budget and the fact that the Nerve Centre is run by a very small number of loyal droids.
I think they should create a '2k street-team', a network of loyal and enthusiastic Squaxx who are happy to do various things for free. This could include putting flyers and posters in record shops, gig venues, video game shops etc. all around the country, in exchange for the odd free GN or something.
Anything other than that costs ???.

That's not a bad plan. Any idea how many volunteers you'd need for it to be viable?
Heh. Now I have an image of the skies above Oxford being illuminated by the Tharg Signal, calling his team to action...
"Spread the word!"
Why not a downloadable flyer that boarders can print off then display in their car/place of work/stately manor?
How about a viral marketing campaign? All Tharg needs to do is genetically engineer some kind of harmless-yet amusing superbug which makes victims break out into rashes of tooth's emblem. It'd be a winner!
bumper stickers!!!
That's a good idea, Max. My suggestions:
Mean Machine, plus the tag "Ahm goin' up to 4th (gear) on ya!"
A close-up of Johnny Alpha with the tag "Boned anyone lately?"
:-)
Any others?
If you can read this, you're under arrest, creep!
My other car is an H-Wagon.
Juve on board.
Honk if you read 2000ad!
Or for the truck driver, a sexy sillouette (sp?) of Durham Red/Judge Anderson on the mudflaps.
(Sorry for the unintended chuckle factor on the last one there :o)
Heh, mudflaps...
Another possiblity (albeit a bit antisocial) would be adhesive speech bubbles with classic lines from characters in the Galaxy's Greatest. These could then be stuck onto various other adverts / posters, casuing much hilarity for us and perpelexity and general bewilderment among non-scrots.
I picture posters with little old ladies yelling "legshot!" and such.
Can we have a set of these run off, please?
I was actually thinking this morning....
My eldest son is 3 (4 next month). He already knows who Simpsons, Batman, Spiderman, and Superman are- and doesn't collect or read ANY of the comics, I have a few Batman, but he's never seen any of them.
So I got to thinking, how does he know who these 4 are, but NOT know who Dredd is?
The answer is due to merchandising, and tv kids cartoons (mainky mercahndising). He's got Simpsons, Batman, Spiderman, and Superman Pajamas, socks, underwear, lights, toys ... you name it. He KNOWS who they are- and their names will forever be engraved in his mind. If Tharg wanted to boost sales, maybe he should start merchandising to the younger Earthlets- catch em whilst they're young, and build a fan base from toddler and up.
I KNOW that Oliver will be wanting to read the aforementioned comics as soon as he's old enough, but so far he's never asked to read tooth!
'this is like totally the left of the car'
and the accompanying
's'right'
I think subscribers should be given a coupon which enables them to have a free issue of 2000AD sent to someone else. A few of the magazines I subscribe to do this
How about do what Playstation have done in the US and just spraypaint all over the major cities? ;)
an original strip by differnt artists in email attachment, with a link to the subs dept may be an idea.
i used to get several decent ones each month.for everything form credit cards to GP tickets. something you like you tend to forward.
I like the car stickers idea. Juve on board particularly.
In a similar thing to UKD, my kids all know who Dredd is, and I've introduced Micro-Bolt Tom to the ABC Warriors, after he was mourning the end of Power Rangers Dino Thunder.
Even Nano-Bolt Isobelle knows who Dredd is, but she prefers Dinosaurs. I'll wait till she's older to let her read XTNCT.

Dinosty?
hmmm, I'll see when I get there in my re-read. I can't remember much about that now.
