Title: Need a comics supplier? (A shameless pimping)
Post by: Trout on 12 January, 2006, 05:41:26 AM
This is the worst bit of pimping I've ever done on the board!
However, I'm not posting pictures of anyone in their pants, so I hope I'll be forgiven.

I've been asked to help my comics supplier gain new customers. In return, I'll be given a bit (but not a huge amount) of credit for extra comics, which is very nice of him.

But I do want to help the guy, who I like. It's also a service I would genuinely recommend. I received my comics by post every month with the minimum of hassle and, in the year I've been doing it, just a couple of small errors, which were quickly addressed.

It's a far cry from the shop I used to go to, which involved a drive to Glasgow (round trip of more than 100 miles), high prices and a fucking shoddy service with no end of gaps.
The damn things were quite often mangled, too, by being stuffed in a filing cabinet.

So if you're keen, sendmail me. You'd be asked to order a standing order worth at least ?10, and keep it for three months.

I now await my burning!

Another disgruntled Forbidden Planet customer, eh?  There do seem to be a lot of them these days, don't there?  The chap in Belfast who runs a dingy little comics shop in the arse of nowhere reckons his repeat customer list grows everytime the big publishers run multi-part crossover stories, as FP misses out half the regular orders, then replaces the books with random titles.  They also somehow managed to lose a comic somewhere in the foot and a half of counter space between the till and the carrier bag when I last visited.  Emphasis on the word 'last', I should point out.
It's contrary to the normal modern business model when the consumer seeks out the smaller retailers, surely?

I will never forgive you for not showing a picture of someone in pants, O trout.

Does this person deliver to Melbourne?

I suspect I know both the suppliers Trout speaks of.

Shoddy service is not from FP but from a guy who looks like the comic dudes in spaced. He really is a complete arse.

As for the good guys I haven't dealt with them myself but if anyone wants to try them drop me a line and we can cut out the middle man, thus robbing Trout of his penny pinching ways!*

*Joke! Honest, please put the trident down...

H'mm. Intriguing.

I don't generally spend ?10 a month on ongoing comics so unfortunately it's no use. However, as I live in Glasgow, I'd be interested to know who or where this supplier is, as I would certainly be willing to give him the benefit of some of my irregular custom.

I live in Australia, the south-east of in fact. 2000AD use to be more commonly sold in nearly every newsagancy/Secondhand comicbook store/the emporiums that get in all kinds comic books, graphic novels, foreign publications, action figures/busts  & similar paraphenalia. That was  nearly just over ten ago.

Now days, it can't be brought anywhere. No where in my local town and perhaps in only a few of the small hard to get to places in the city closest to my town or places that I haven't been able to find at all.

I had to ask at a newagnacy housed in one of the major shopping centres between here & there about getting 2000AD in more me each week. They said they would, but haven't been really reliable either.

The major comic book stores in the city have alienated me also. They say one thing & do the other or get very vague & treat you like a idiot when you ask about the availability of anything.

I am now working on getting in what I want straight through mail order.
