Title: Graphic Novel Subs
Post by: Bad Andy on 15 January, 2006, 04:52:13 PM
Not sure about anyone else, but I intend to get the all the planned Case Files for the foreseeable future. There are also other lines that I intend to collect in their entirity (Dante for example).

With this in mind, wouldn't it be a good plan for Rebellion to do a subs system for the trades. That way Rebellion will know they've got X amount of guaranteed income for its trade lines and allow it to plan ahead with some confidence and, in return, the subs can get a discount (15% to make it more worthwhile than the online shops) and they get the collections as near as dammit they come out, saving fruitless trips to Forbidden Planets around the country.

Subs could be asked what lines they want to subscribe to -
Dredd Case Files
Dredd Recent Collections
Sinister Dexter
Dante
Rogue Trooper
Cabs
Slaine
ABC Warriors
Robo Hunter
Sub ?10 one-offs
Sub ?15 one offs

I'd probably sign up for both Dredds S/D, Dante, ABC Warriors, Robo Hunter and the Sub ?10 one-offs, yet I might not buy all these seperately if you catch my drift.

Obviously it could end up being expensive, but if people are going to buy them anyway...

What does anyone else think?

I think that's a bloody excellent idea Andy! Where do I sign?

Pete.

I'd sub to the Case Files.  Bloody hard to get hold of the first one - Forbidden Planet sold out, other local comic shops and Waterstones didn't have it, 4-6 week estimated delivery time on Amazon... and I live in Manchester, not short of big specialist shops.

I too would cerainly the subscribe to the Case Files. I've been in FP every other day this year to see if it's in yet.

I think a subscription to the GN's would be a great idea. Of course we'd have to be warned of the prices and frequency, maybe some sort of email/go ahead with order scheme?

I'm getting sick of Amazon et al just not having things in stock. Still waiting for the new ones that were supposed to come out in December to arrive and I've seen them in Borders!

yours insatiably,

Floyd

Certainly for Case Files.... I'd probably sign up for other series too, but with the irregularness of which series come out when it might be problematic.

I think, unless you want to drive the subs team mad, you'd have to restrict such a subscription. I suppose you could do something like:

Dredd Case Fles (because they're bi-monthly).
Non-Case Fles standard TPBs.
Euro TPBs.
All TPBs.

Even that's kind of pushing it, but anything more complex would be nuts.

IMO, the Case Files would be the project to which this was best suited. Reprinting such a wealth of Dredd material is a pretty major task, and I wonder whether knowing you have a committed, subscribed audience would make it easier to carry on.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the Peanuts archive editions being published by Fantagraphics have a sub scheme? A possible model to consider?

I believe you are right and if I knew the CaseFiles were guaranteed every other month I'd plonk down my subscription wang right in front of Thargs face.

The Casefiles are the ones easy to subscribe to, but you could always have a Rebellion book club where they e-mail you the list of forthcoming books and you return your order. That way there's a list of advance orders and you get the books you want mailed to you as soon as they are available.

Another good idea. Certqainly Big Finish send out a list of whats available, what's going to be available, and prices for their products when you order from them.

Considering the droid J-Ol has been active while this thread was around but not commented, it seems that this idea is unlikely.

Shame that.

Don't blame him for keeping his head down... if this thread was an email in my work's inbox I'd definitely be leaving it 'til later.
WHAT? MORE WORK? Implement an extra whole new scheme? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This thread was started four days ago. Jonathan's current workload is immense. Putting two and two together, I'd suggest that either he's not seen this, or he's not had time to consider it.

Also, if a number of people wrote to Rebellion directly about this, rather than just posting here, that would give the idea more weight (although said people would have to put their money where their, erm, biro is).

TBH - all the books are available to order via this website, and they appear on the front-page when they're buyable... for us lot that come on this site daily, it really isn't that tricky to get exactly the books we want delivered as soon as Rebellion get them ready.

Odds --

Indeed. However, I still reckon the sheer laziness of just whacking a couple of titles on a sub and not having to bother doing anything else until they arrive is quite seductive, especially when coupled with knowing that you're going to get the books pretty much as they come out.

You're right... I'd sign up if the system were there - but it is sheer laziness to not use the current set up!

Whoa whoa whoa.

Wasn't blaming him at all!

It was meant that as J-Ol is so helpful usually (especially when it comes to trade paperbacks) a wee nod might have indicated that Rebellion were thinking the same way and there was possibly something in the pipeline.

Personally I don't know who he (or I come to think about it) spends so much time here.

And never mind the 'sheer laziness' aspect. Companies should always be making it easier for customers to spend money. My original suggestion was also to help the business know it has a regular income stream rather than provide subbers with tpbs the second they're off the printer.

Good look with your workload. If you need any help reading those GNs, I'm sure you'll have loads of volunteers here
