I know it's not quite 'on' to laugh at such situations, but I love how they appealed against this old guy's execution on health and age grounds. You can imagine his lawyer...
- "You can't put this frail elderly man in that electric chair. It might kill him!"
Heh.

Proof that guns do, after all make you look, cool
I'm against the death penalty in principle, really I am; but I've no sympathy for this guy whatsoever. It seem just.
it's not really much of a punishment though, if they had waited a little longer he'd have died anyway
Pushing a blind bloke in a wheelchair to his demise is just plain sick.
What they should've done is sneak up on him and wire his chair to the mains. That way he wouldnt have had time to think about it.
What I mean to say is, I think the death penalty is wrong, but then again, a great many wrong things are being done all the time. I can't bring myself to get worked up about all of them.
Weirdly this kind of get-out-clause always seems to work when it's some kind of war criminal or ex-head of state.
Yeah, but it's generally a get-out clause that they're too ill to face trial. I can't remember a head of state being too ill to be done in. As it goes, convicted heads of state aren't very often convicted these days, let alone sentenced to death.
Mores the pity...
Aye long gone are the days of dragging the head of state out his palace and shooting him in the street...
And the 'too old'/'too senile' clause also seems to work for mega-rich businessmen. Then they get better.
Mine's a guinness.
Only vaguely on topic, but there are some genius execution articles on the "The Day Today" DVD.
The best one is the Elvis Fan who decides to go out like the King; eating cheeseburgers on a specially constructed Electric Toilet.
Ah, The Day Today. Have you heard the news item with Peter O'HanraO'hanrahan reporting from the Twin Towers yet?
