Title: The Hunt for Lenny Z ?
Post by: Marbles on 15 February, 2006, 08:53:28 PM
OK very very bored at work right now so I came up with this crazy idea...

Here's a fun(?) idea for a one-off Meg."Where's Lenny Z?"

Basically its one long story threading through the pages of a number of different strips, say for instance :-

Dredd Intro (Wagner) - kicks off chasing some Perp who claims that the Lenster is alive & well but refuses to spill the beans, anyway he escapes to the Cursed Earth...
Koburn (Rennie) -... where Koburn has to track him down & return him to MC-1...
Simp (Spur) - ...where he escapes to the criminal underworld & the Simp tries to catch him...
Anderson (Grant) - ..and somehow Anderson gets dragged in to the whole thing..
Dredd Conclusion (Rennie) - Rennie gets the thankless task of tieing up the whole mess. Obviously Lenny Z never actually appears & gives everyone the slip at the end, thus not cheesing off Diggle/Jock but still having fun with a much-missed character.

Obviously you need a stronger overall story to make it hang together but it would be fun, no ? I'm obviously conflating 2 seperate ideas (1) a 'story arc' over a number of different Meg stories (2) the Lenny Z bit. You could throw in cameos/walk-bys by other characters eg. Aimee Nixon.

I like the idea of an arc throughout 1 Meg.
Dunno if it would ever be Lenny Z, but the idea seems good to me.

Those writers mentioned, wadda ya think?  Would you be up for doing it?

Hive Mind again. Been pondering this idea myself and was going to post it later. I thought it'd be a nice idea for the anniversary issue.

Its got to be better that 'all the zoo-ad people at a party' that normally gets huckled out every anniversary issue.

Who is Annie Versarie anyway? and what are her issues?

Quite a cool idea.

Some other people pointed out that it was odd that in Anderson, the entire city was rioting out of control during the Half-Life fandango, but no mention was made of it in Dredd.

Be interesting if some event filtered through all the stories, to see how each character coped with it.  Easy to say - it might not be so interesting in practise.

Then there's the "Whatever happened to..?" and the old PJ Maybe "Wot I did during Necrplis" stories.

What did other characters do during tumultuous events of the past in MC-1?

I hate crossovers, on the whole, but a crossover that runs through one issue of a themed meg does sound appealing.

I like the idea of seeing how various characters cope with the same situation, as suggested by Funt.

Should the entire issues art duties be handled by one person, or changed with each "chapter"/strip?

I reckon diff artists on each strip would be best.  (Variety, spice of life.)

Plus if it were to include characters like Koburn or Point I don't think I'd want to see them without their respective artists.

An alternative idea is "Wheres Lenny Z", in which each double page spread is filled with highly detailed long shots of people going about humourous tasks in a variety of crazy environments (e.g, the meg, the cursed earth, the land of Lennys etc) and you have to spend hours studying the pictures trying to find not only lenny, but also his glasses which he has clumbsily lost on every page...

Ha!  Commission Mike McMahon for one of those double-page spreads.  I'm sure he'd love it.  *evil chuckle
