Title: More Slaine to come!
Post by: ThryllSeekyr on 06 March, 2006, 12:08:39 AM
I found it advertised on the Amazon.Com.Uk website.

Yup. I'd noticed that. Don't know how accurate the release date is, and since I'm still waiting for the first book...

They also show the cover for this:

...and list this (which can't be more dull or pointless than the Dredd Vs Death "Making Of", surely?):

I'm quite interested in Hunting Party; along with OZ its the only Mega-Epic I haven't read.

I've never even heard of it. How's that happened?

Because it's not really a mega-epic.

It is a collection of linked stories, each of which could be told on it's own (to a greater extent than The Cursed Earth or The Judge Child, which both had an over-riding quest element that The Hunting Party is lacking).

If I remember, it's an extended Hotdog Run running from 1033-1049(?) that encapsulates:

The Hunting Party
Lost In Americana
Fog On The Eerie
Dance Of The Spider Queen
Camp Demento
Shark Country
Trail of the Man-Eaters

Also 'The Pack' which sets the story up, and reintroduced the dune sharks from 'the tenth planet'. Ignore the strapline on the cover - no kev walker art here, though there's some early henry flint (not his best) and some gorgeous jason brashill fully painted art, as well as iirc trevor haisine, sean phillips, calum watt, and david bircham(?). A bit hit and miss, much like the story itself. I'd rate it as one of my least favourite epics, just above 'city of the damned', and cant help wishing they'd chosen something else to be collected.
still buying it though.

Yup, not a great epic by any means but I do seem to recall...

SPOILER WARNING

...quite a tense and exciting Quantum Leap style story arc where Dredd and co. go back to America minutes before the Great Atom War, exciting stuff!

I'm looking forward to reading that bit again.

Pete.

I was looking at the new Slaine Graphic novel ( The first one!) that has been advertised as being published and on sale from that site since the tenth of January.

It's now been pushed back till the 30th of this month.

That was what one of the online bookshop have told me ( BookTopia!), so I checked and they were right. It was the 30th of this month.

I was wondering if anybody here had ordered that from Amazon and already received theirs.

Hello All

Yes there has been a delay on Slaine and I can only apologise for this. However, it arrived at the distributors yesterday and will be in shops this week. Which is nice.

Whilst I can't imagine buying The Invasions, at least not until all three volumes were available but even then I'd hesitate, it's appreciated that we get these head ups.

The first volume arrived with me this morning. It feels nice and weighty, and the print quality is excellent?on a par with the best Dark Horse hardbacks. A few covers are included as extras, with a subtle Celtic border surround, which works very nicely.

I wouldn't describe The Hunting Party as an epic at all. However all of the stories within it were fun.
