I'm after letters for issue 2 of omnivistascope*, so if you have something to say, why not e-mail me? Though if it's a crap letter I might just use a rolled up copy of issue 2 to beat you to death. But with its extra pages and high quality strips you'll enjoy every moment. And not in a wrong way.
Cheers
Paul
*As seen in the Megazine and Troutmaster Weekly as well as on Anglian Television.
is this question crap?
Wot question?
I thought it was a request.
Sorry Max, I'm looking for coherant and articulate letters responding and referring to Omnivistascope issue 1. Such letters may be humorous, serious, questioning (but not merely questions), in character, angry or offer me money.
However, you are confusing this request with Professor Brabblepap's request for questions for issue 1. If he were to answer your question (and he hasn't responded, I'm told he's in a meeting) I suspect he would say it was indeed a poor question.
I may well oblige, Paul, having enjoyed the first issue quite a lot.
As I've said elsewhere, I'm about to give away a PDF of Omnivistascope 1, a SF comic (as seen in the small press megazine feature). All I'm asking for is people to send me their addresses, which won't be kept or used for marketing and they can have a free disk of SF goodness. I might even be able to throw in some other stuff (no guarentees!).
I need to post it as the files are way to big to ever e-mail.
I think it'll be of interest to some readers of 2000AD, it's varied SF stuff and the second issue is due out in May (it's an annual comic.
Thanks for your interest
Paul

Will Quisling will be continueing?
Yes.
(he says looking at a stack of un-inked pages..)
Sorry- took me a while to work out who were BSSK.
Handed over the lettered artwork to Paul last week(?).
Quisling Stage Two will feature in OVS II ;)
And it's with the printers, their address - lap of the gods.
But yes, we do have Quisling Stage 2, thanks Olly!
And thanks for all the letters, they filled a page!
It's a pretty darn good issue I think!
Cheers
Paul
I bet you still reckon there's something not right about it, though. Or you'll get the copies back from the printers and notice a single typo on page eleven and get mad and maybe punch yourself in the groin, like Steve Martin in that film, before he went strange and started remaking franchise characters (that were syn-on-a-mous (sp?) with the original performer) without any jokes - but if he'd punched himself in the groin a few times in that Bilko film, it might not have been funny, but at least we'd all have thought "he's been punished enough" and went away sated, if not completely fulfilled.
Good luck with it - I, and even my dad, thouroughly enjoyed the first outing (not impressed by small press stuff in general, though possibly just anything I was involved with), and it looked fantastic.
Ah, don't. I won't feel calm till I have them back on time, in my hand and they are all okay.
You're right though, there is always something. I couldn't read Issue 1 properly for 3 months as every mistake (there were about 3 or 4 typos, thankfully mostly minor) jumped up at me like it was the pop up typo edition.
Glad you (and your dad) liked it though, and 2 is definitely a step up.
Cheers
Paul
Like Matt I've tried not to spoil it for myself and read too much of the content that's been posted up in the group files.
There's a marked rise in overall quality from what I have seen though.
Shame Quisling brings it down a peg ;p
I'd love to get my hands on a copy but I'm far away, any thoughts on international distribution to Aussie newsagents? =)
Pfft, no thought on any distribution, it's just too difficult unless you flog yourself to death for almost no reward or you have some serious money to spend. Don't get me started!
OVS 2, or Omnivistascope Model 2 if you don't read aloud, is due out next week. I may get copies Monday, but at the latest Wednesday (he said, with usual caveats about fate).
It'll be on sale on our stall at bristol, but for anyone else interested and who won't be attending, I'll do it for a Brucie Bargain of ?4, plus ?1 post to anywhere in the world except the Amazon basin, for people from the 2000AD message board. If you want issue 1 as well, that'll be another ?4, but I'll pay the post (he said nervously).
It'll then revert back to its ?6 price come June.
It's a 76 page perfect bound SF comic with facets of terror, action and humour. It's got some great art by some of the best underground mole artists you'll ever see, and hopefully the stories are the sort of thing you won't get anywhere else.
The last one got rave reviews, so be sure to buy one before my lock-up gets burned down. Payment details are on the Solarwind website (see link).
Yes, this has been a plug.

oooh.
That Alphonse Mucha style cover is lovely.
Oooh, too.
That is bloomin' great.
OVS model 1 was the best small press title of last year, so I have high hopes for this issue.
Bolt-01
Well I HAVE looked and it's all looking rather lovely - sparklier, sharper, smarter than OVS1 in every way - and OVS1 is no slouch! Buy it now! Erm...well, in week or two, anyway...
Your willing to post O/S? Hooray! However I do not have access to a credit card BUT I am happy to post real notes ( amongst a heap of paper! )
1 pound = 40000 $Aus......so errr.....
I dunno, how much would you want if I mailed Aus notes....$30 sound fair? For issues 1 & 2.
"Your willing to post O/S? Hooray!"
I'd hand deliver it if I could.
I can't really take foriegn currency though, soz.
It is a lovely cover, isn't it? I feel sorry for whoever gets to do number three as it's a tough act to follow. Being a bit of an arrogant sod, I just assumed that this issue wouldn't look as good as the last- but I'm happy to say that I think it kicks the crap out of mine.
There. I've said it- publicly, no less.
;)
Is that the body of Christ, she is holding?
Carlsborg-Barkhaloner.
The cover is a thing of beauty. I don't know who Alphonse Mucha is; I thought it looked Art Nouveau. Who did it?
The Body of Christ is flat. I'd put money on it that thing she's holding is spherical.
Mr Bart Diaz drew the cover- and I believe the lady is holding a unit of currency that she's about to put in the OVS machine that's reflected in her visor.
At least, I hope that's what it is- otherwise I've missed the point entirely...
Ah, I see! So she's putting a coin in the jukebox, and with her pointy finger she's about to make her selection?
I didn't realise the workings of the Omnivistascope were so mundane! I feel stupid now. I thought she was holding some sort of glowing marble or portable energy unit to bring the apparatus to life! So it was just a coin? Ah well.
:-)
Hah! tHat puts paid to your " spherical" theory Ush!
:)
Well you know, maybe future coins are a bit like... um... marbles?
Cheers all.
Been looking *alot* at general Victoriana, Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau (yes, Mucha), gig posters by Alton Kelley & Stanley Mouse, 'Hapshash and the Coloured Coat' and Japanese artist Tadanori Yokoo.
Sphere or disc, it amounts to the same thing ;)
I wanted the OVS token to look something like a rice paper flying saucer- IIRC from my childhood a uniquely bitter sweet experience.
Carlsborg- Body of Christ completely passed me by- interesting analogy.
I used to hate those- they tasted like polystyrene filled with talcum powder. Who thinks this stuff up?
UFO shaped, taste of polystyrene, only one 'thing' could come up with that.
Having said that though, I like em.
Oliver's cover is very nice, and all the ladies at the library think too.
"that puts paid to your " spherical" theory"
Spherical theory = "balls!"
;)
gee whizz Bart, that cover is really stunning, munchas swirly designy stuff rocks. beautiful. i think i'm going to need yet another job to afford all these shiney happy comics.
only a week to go tra la la !
Just to say the omnivistascopes were delivered today, they look great, if you like comics and SF, please buy one :p
Cheers
Paul
Paul...can I have one in the post for Friday please...I need it by Friday...pretty please...
And regarding the covers for #1 and #2...they BOTH ROCK...nice one.
There's a shit load of books I want to buy at bristol: but i have to say this one is far and away the one I'm most looking forward to.
Anyone who wants one, e-mail me with your address and at least some sort of reasonable promise of payment and I'll get them in the post to arrive by the time everyone else has them at bristol.
As for looking forward to it, I've been looking forward to it more then most for various reasons, but now it's here I have the same problems I have with the first one, that I'm so close to it, I can't read it with any objectivity at all. 3 months time I'll be able to read it properly, by this time next year it'll be as if someone else wrote it. Of course, you shouldn't have this problem :p
At the risk of this thread getting repetitive-
that is a very nice cover.
I'm just pissed off i don't know how to do italics and bold, or i would've put more emphasis in there.
Okay! I am trying to round up some letters for issue 3, so if anyone has anything to say, good, bad or ugly about omnivistascope, then please send in you thoughts (write them down first as the telepathic fax is on the blink again).
Cheers!
Paul
p.s. Shaping up to be a rather nice issue!
Last chance for letters this week, as I'll be getting very busy putting the comic together (issue 3). Any comments on OVS or SF in general welcome.
Cheers
Paul
