Title: Who the hell are they?
Post by: Leigh S on 26 March, 2006, 04:36:47 PM
Every Comics International for what seems like an age has an Ad for "Tales of Midnight" corgi figure, or some other offshoot of this alledged comic, that I've never seen in a comic shop.

Similarly, every Memorabilia show at the NEC has a huge stand (in the case of yesterdays event stnads plural) for them advertising their toy/cartoon series or what have you - I wonder how they are bankrolling

The comic looks like a bad 90's komix for adyultz thing, but thats perhaps a bit harsh,as i said - since they dont seem to exist outside of a number of expensive adverts and promotions, its hard to actually criticise them!

Anyone more familiar with the background to this mystery care to fill me in?

Heh. They had a HUGE stand opposite us at the Brighton con too.
No bloody idea who or what they are though.

I saw them in New York - my guess (and it is a guess) is the creator is a master at self promotion and managed to sell the whole thing as a concept to Corgi who've been doing non-stop promotion of it for what seems like forever. At some point the bean counters are gonna realise that it's not bringing in any revenue...

(it's a little like the Brand-X from Grant Morrisons Marvel Boy in the late 90s)

Has anyone ever read one of these? They seem to be everywhere but I dont know anyone who has read one let alone spent money on one.

Although Bear's beaten me to it, that's a pretty fucking blatant rip off of Diabolik.

Considering that no one's heard of this comic, this made me laugh...

" Based on characters featured in TALES OF MIDNIGHT ... the highly acclaimed comic book with a global fanbase from San Francisco to Singapore"

This was featured on the cover of a trade magazine we had at work, I work for a label company, the mag was mainly for the greetings card industry.
I wondered what the hell it was too.

Is this the longest self-pimp in history?

With this level of horrendous marketing wank, I agree:  the nights have ... just got darker.
