Post by: Tweak72 on 13 April, 2006, 03:01:24 AM
Ok i have just bought the trade of this (I think) brilliant story (even though i kinda knew what happens i was blown away by the what the story was told) and looking at the spine i can see part of the house of M logo meaning (suprise suprise) there are other trades in the series that when you put them on your book shelf you will have a "oo the spines all mak a pretty picture" so i ask the question

Having bought the first 7 issues of House of M, and heard some of the feedback from other people who've read it, I can say that the response has been quite muted, and not that many comics readers were all that impressed.

With regards to the tie-in stories, some were better than others. The ones I enjoyed were the Spider-Man one (tho by no means essential to the House of M mini) and the Hulk one, which I actually thought was better than the main story. With Mutants dominating the World, Banner essentially sets up a safe haven for the humans in Australia, which he is able to do by literally threatening Magneto and his cronies with The Hulk. The one that ties in mostly to the main mini is the Fantastic Four one, which depicts Doom's attempts to overthrow Magneto. If you loved the main series, then this is probably the one to go for.

Banner essentially sets up a safe haven for the humans in Australia,

What, all five billion? Why Australia?

mind you, the way our PM is going, it may take Banner to get anyone in the country at all

Right... don't quote me on this but it something to do with the fact that Banner was already in Aus, living amongst some Aborigines, who had helped him in his control of the Hulk. When the Mutant/Human war begins to threaten the peace he's found, he steps forward and takes over the country, declaring it independant from Magneto's worldwide Mutant rule.

Don't know how many humans head/are there but it is at a time when there has been years of Mutant rule and persecution of the human race (this is sort of an alternate timeline, remember).

I forgot that in fiction aboriginals are about eighty percent of the population of Australia.  As for being independent of Magneto's worldwide Mutant rule; as if! We can't even get rid of the Queen properly!
sorry about that, just grizzling here. I'll get back to work now.

yours wishing he had time to read House of M

Ah... but it was an alternate reality Australia, so normal rules don't apply!  ;)

I agree that the Hulk tie-in was probably the best House of M bit, apart from the main story itself. Apparently I'm one of those in a minority of folk who liked Bendis's tale. I'd say the emotional wringer that Spider-Man goes through in the main story is even more pwerful if you read his tie-in mini, but it wasn't essential.

However, if there are more trades to come in the series, might they not comprise some of the follow-up stories? There are a whole bunch of minis showing what happened to mutants in the post HoM world. These have all been pretty good, especially the David Hine ones (Son of M + the 198), which still have 1 issue to go each. Generation M was decent, too, but again not essential. They all haev the advantage of being set in the superhero Marvel world but not at all being about superheroics. Politics and urban grit, yes. Punch ups, no.

The follow ups will be under the Decimation banner.

To be honest you could easily go without reading any of the back up stories, as they've had no bearing on anything that wasn't also covered in the main story.

For me the one's that fleshed out the world better are a good read, but I don't know how they'll be released in trade. The best 2 are the Captain America, Black Panther and the Pulse (Hawkeye) Issues.

Personally I thought Iron Man was the biggest waste of money
And the Wolverine Story was just a Wolverine Story, could have been any world, just a slight tweak of characters.
