I can't make it.
Picture looks good.
I am now confimred to be going to this. Hey, it's a day out.
If anyone wants to come, please do, it'll be fun.
Also, I may be staying over Saturday night, sa chance for some beers.
Plus, anyone has any comics they want me to sell, just say. I don't want a %'age, but I would take any return postage out of sales (if any).
Shee-ite. I might be able to go but then I might be in Ireland. Have to double check that.
I'll certainly come along if possible (think it should be). Probably more likely as a visitor but maybe as an exhibitor. Beautiful little place too.
I might cycle out if it's a nice day.
The Goth is a great wee venue,my pal regularly plays there in a band (Yard of Ale)... But I come from the toon nearby, and I would advise caution about leaving anything of value lying about, either inside or particularly outside the venue,if you see what I mean...

I'm glad someone mentioned the reputation of Prestonpans, aka 'The Pans', aka 'The Town That Dreaded Sunset'.
I just about choked on my cornflakes when someone described it here as "a beautiful little place."
The last time a friend and I were driving through the place, our journey was temporarily interrupted by the locals attacking the gypsies in the vehicles in front of us.
Ahh...change of holiday plans for me then...
I was planning to spend the night there, I may just make sure I'm out by sunset.
I'll also watch The Hills Have Eyes for some basic survival tips.
Well, it has been 30 years since I was there. 'Twas a beautiful little place then. Has it really changed so much? And will the shop still have the bumper book of space comics?
Chris
I don't want to put anyone off - I'm vaguely thinking about going too - but if you're going along expecting Moniaive-on-sea, then you'll be in for a big shock.
As my fellow Edinburgher Proudhuff suggested, some caution may be advised in some parts of the town.
Still dont know if I can make it. If not let me know how you all survive, erm, get on.
Well, it sounds pretty like many run down slightly deprived coastal places to me. I was at the delightful Seaton Carew on Tuesday, paddling in the shadow of a nuclear powerplant.
Hartlepool has its problems too, but it still made for a nice day out.
I'm going with no real expectations, just fancied a day out really.
There was a brave young man named Paul Von Scott,
who braved the stick the fist and the shot,
He ventured to places that others would not dare,
And he did it with a smile, a wink and no care,
What happended to him - tis too early to tell,
But soon we shall hear of his one day in hell...
As sang by the minstrels of old...

They've got a very strange idea of what a goth is:

(First person who tries to educate me on visigoths gets sneered at.)
Attempting to kill the italics and the bold.
I wont try to educate you about Visigoths, but the Gothenburg - or Goth - model is a system of management imported from Scandinavia in the late 19th Century where the bar is run as a non-profit enterprise with any excess monies being put back into the local community. There's another one in Armadale and, I believe, a couple in Fife.
In other words, you generally get them in right shitholes.
"In other words, you generally get them in right shitholes."
I'm going to Whitburn Gala day this weekend, Cheers for reminding me. :)
I'm going to Whitburn Gala day this weekend,
Not one I've ever sampled, but I was back through for Bathgate Gala day a few weeks ago. 1 murder, 2 serious stabbings and a rape: a quiet one this year.
the guy with the bell appears to be wearing a fairly standard issue flouncy Goth shirt, not sure what he was thinking with the ballet shoes mind...
Oh - Gothenburg - cheers, I didn't know anything about that.
So far, then, we've got:
Gothenburg: 19th Century Scandinavian Co-Op.
Visigoth / Ostrogoths: Germanic peoples and kickers of Roman arse.
Goths: black clothes, white make-up, fields of the nephilim.
Any more?
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoth
Which is welsh for 'The only Goth in the Village'
:)
I wouldn't want to put anyone off, The guy who runs the Goth has been doing a great job in turning around the venue, foods very good, regular gigs, banning the crazies etc, so I'd say yes go to this it should be an experience, just you know watch yer back at the bus stop and say 'Turnent? barstards! ' if asked anything and mind and stand up at the end of the night in the Legion.
Mind you Mussleburgh can be worse...
Hi, allow me to introduce myself....I'm the chav who lives in Prestonpans and who is organising the mart.
If you are in any doubt as to what sort of town "The Pans" is, take a look at these photos I took of some neds getting drunk in ma hoose - you might know them better as Malcy Duff and Nulsh.
It was a riot. There was (organic) polenta and mung beans everywhere.
Come on guys, let's make it happen...

"Chav"?? Is that like a ned?
;)
I'm 99% definitely attending this, depending on work.
I'd also like to come, but the wife will tell me not to.
Wish me luck!

If you go look out for the bandaged cow...
The things you have to ram raid when there are no cash machines, Dixons branches or comic-con attendees in the area!

It was absolutely brilliant!! It went so well in fact that we are holding it again on Saturday 22nd *JULY* ;-)
Anyone else thought it was last weekend? Can anyone take a few flyers or pass the word around.
Really hope you take/share a table.

bah, i'd vaguely consider the giant distance down there, but I'm a going elsewhere that weekend & will by busy scowling at anyone who resembles the Satantist & wondering how he knew where to stalk me.
We implanted you with a tracking device at the Bristol festival.
Can I just remind all the EIN'ers and FQ'ers and anyone else, that I will try and sell their comics on my stall if they send some to me.
Cheers
Paul
Dont worry Bou, I'm now so skint I'll have to put the stalking on hold for a while.
Spent all my money down in London at the weekend enjoyin watching football and gigs. Still dont know if I'll make the mart though.
Cheers Paul. Mail on its way

Bah - I'm in Loch Ness when this is on.
Well, near Loch Ness.
PVS = Can I try and convince Colin to send you a few issues of Zarjaz to sell? I'm still bissing from the *fantastic* art on the Rogue Trooper thing.
I'll trake any small press that get to me in time. I'd reccomend 5-10 copies max, it's not a big event.
I must go to Scotland one of these days.......where's a good place to start?
A pleasant way to see almost all sides of Glasgow...

Brilliant - the website listed at the bottom of the wikpedia page belongs to one of my mates. If you look closely, you'll see me in a few pictures and referred to in texts (normally as Jabba).
The recent Pirate subcrawl does rather scupper plans I was making for one on 19th September this year though. I guess I'll have to think of some other form of fancy dress. Maybe something simple like Green and White hooped shirts would prvide a simple theme and endear us to every citizen of Glasgow...

Anyone heading through from Glasgow? The chances of me actually finding my own way there are slim to none.
If anyone wants directions, send me a note of your postcode and I'll email you with a route and map.

Train from Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley. Train from Edinburgh Waverley to Prestonpans station.
OR
First stage as above, then bus from St. Andrews Square station (2 minutes walk from Edinburgh Waverley) to Prestonpans.
Glaswegians...
Well, dricing up tomorrow morning, it's on from 11-3 apparently, so if you want to drop by for a chat or look at some comics, please do.
I'm happy to go for a drink afterwards also (although non-alchoholic for me)
I'll be selling Solar Wind, Onnivistascope, Futurqake, Mangaquake and Something Wicked.
Cheers
Paul
By road
Just minutes from the A199/A1 (Wallyford junction) or take the coastal route (B1348). Free parking is available directly opposite The Goth
By bus
Buses 26 (Lothian) & 129 & 66 (First) stop outside the Goth. Buses 110 and 124 nearby.
By train
Prestonpans train station is normally only a 14 minute journey from Edinburgh on the Edinburgh-North Berwick line. However?.on 22nd July the Edinburgh/North Berwick service will be replaced by a shuttle bus operating from Newcraighall.
Leave the station by Platform 1 and walk down Station Road, turning left on Preston Road then right down West Loan. You will be able to see the Firth of Forth as you are heading down the hill. The ruins of Preston Tower are to your right. When you reach the High Street take a left and keep walking until you reach the Goth.

Sorry Paul, not been following this thread - would have sent you some too! :(
Sorry Mike, if you know anyone who can drop some off on Saturday, I'd still sell them. Though I appreciate that's unlikely.
Have fun over the weekend Paul.

Enjoy!
I'm missing out, as expected, although it's not my wife's fault. :-)

Thought I might be able to go, but this ****ing essay's not finished yet.
No bugger from the board came! Met lots of people I'd met before, lartgely through moniaive, and it was nice to meet Starscape Chris and his wife, Zee-zee (I was too embarressed to ask if this was her real name).
Met John McShane, who I've talked to a few times at these things but never realised who he was. He's the man who published bogie man and started toxic comic, and I sold him my copies. That can't be right.
It was VERY small, but fun enough, and they hope to do more with it in October I think. Possibly some signings, that would be good.
Sold more comics than I thought I would (which is never much at small events), walked along the delightful special brew can strewn 'beach' and had a nice meal in the gothenburg.
Knackered, but it was a nice day out.
Well, we really enjoyed it. The photos can be seen here on the website everyone who helped to make the day such a success gets a mention.
We will be looking for lots more help, ideas & collaboration for the next one on 21st October.
