Title: WW3?
Post by: thrillpowerseeker on 14 July, 2006, 02:48:02 AM
Watching the news channels today I had that 'walked over my grave' shudder as I witnessed events in Israel/Lebanon unfold..could this be the start of the 3rd Big One?..No doubt Israel could defeat Lebanon in a one on one but what happens if Syria, Egypt and Jordan decide it's time to end it one way or another?..Our forces are over stretched around the world as it is, even if we could summon up the political will to aid the Israeli's..I've just got a bad feeling about this one, let's hope the Generals of any of the opposing forces decide it's a good idea to make a 'Last Stand' at Megiddo.

It won't be world war 3, I mean this isn't the first time the Israelis have fought Lebanon/Syria nad it won't be the last. But yeah it looks pretty damn scary at the mo, the Israelis look to have completely lost their marbles.

WW3 will only begin if the US invades Iran -which it won't- Iran is the line in the sand and the oil nexus between the US, Russia, China etc.

I think Taiwan or North Korea is more likely to be the cataylst for WW3 than Iran.

'WW3 will only begin if the US invades Iran'

They were quick to make accusations that the Israeli soldiers had been taken or were to be taken to Iran, and that Iran funds Hezbollah.

Sounds like how we got from Afganistan to Iraq.

The end of the world isn't something I've taken too seriously since the Cold War ended and I lost my virginity. Both events kind of took the edge off.

Just to be pedantic but the next World War might not be WW3 - depending on who you talk to it could be WW4 or WW5 (its all in the piece I wrote i TEIN #2 ;) way thins are shaping up I wonder if waiting until next yar for TEIN #4 might have been tempting fate).

there is nothing to fear, once they have recovered the soldiers they will pull out.
A number of major Muslim nations such as Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia do not look on Hezbollah as being a legitimate government entity. so won't come to their aid.

And North Koria won't spark a world war, they have 0 allies. They can't even get their missiles to last longer than 25 seconds.

So calm down and drink some tea and eat some biscuits

Regarding North Korea it strikes me that surely the worst thing that could happen to The Great Leader is if the South Koreans say "Okay, you win, come on over and we'll re-unite". The entire regime is dependent on the conditioning and ignorance of the population's ignorance. As soon as they start meeting people who are used to democracy, affluence and freedom of thought the first thing to go would be the regime.

Surely worth a try guys?

my best info (courtesy of an old Lonely Planet guide. Mock if you wish, but they didn't predict nonexistent WMDs) is that South Korea can't afford reunification and that their politicians all say they want it but hope it doesn't happen in their lifetime
