Inspired by the recent thread with the varied and strange renditions of Dr Zoidberg, here's a thread for boarders here to display their talent (or lack thereof ;-) )
Pick a 2000AD character, then try and draw him, her or it and post the results. Bonus points for anyone who manages a decent rendition from memory, and extra bonus points and shameless sycophancy for any pro artists who chip in.
Let's start things rolling with The World's Worst Deadlock (TM):
Bah! You're far too harsh on yourself. I'll have a go in a bit, so I'll out-do you for badness. ;)
As always with things like this, any submissions by Timson will be deemed as 'cheating'.
MONGROL SMUSH!
Assuming correct use of web-fu, Lobster Random:
Inspired by another thread.
I laughed. Very, very hard :-)
Nice Lob, Grant - and a great Mongrol, Byron. Keep 'em coming!
Hope this works. Drawing I did for a Comics shop in Germany when I was there last week.

Bugger, again.

Cheers and lovely Amstor. HTML does my head in.

Left handed. Let's face it, it's the only way I can get to play without being accused of either cheating or showing off...

Sorry, I don't know how that happend.
It's like multiple versions of yourself from different realities all collided on the same web page at the same time. Or something.
so many uses of the term "molly dooka" but I'm still confused
CRISIS ON INFINITE MESSAGEBOARDS!
Who will live? Who will die? Will Messageboard 2 merge with Messageboard 1 to retcon Richie Clatt out of existence?
This is a work in progress since Woolly(?) posted the 'Judge Death' thread, don't have enough time in the day to finish it...
Here's Johnny Alpha and his parralel dimesion "sister" Jenny.
Love the Judge Death, Larf!
Here (web-fu permitting) is a sketch of our supreme Chief Judge Hershey. I excuse this cack-handed abomination on the grounds that it's the first pic I've ever drawn entirely with my new graphics tablet, and I still don't understand the brushes on Pshop.
I think Thryllseekyr draws well for a Molly Dooka...
"Molly Dooka"
I had to look it up!
I only noticed last night that Bart Simspon is also..one of those wrong-handed people
First of all, I had pressed the submitt button than decided to type so more words as the computer was sending my message. Must have confused it abit.
Sort of like taking a time-exposure photo with the shutter left open.
Looks like film if you if look at them fast enough.
A 'Molly Dooka' is Left-hand person. I think it is largly Australian slang. It sounds that way. As I had said before, I am Left-handed. Nothing wrong with that except that when I write pen on paper. My hand has a natural tendency to smudge where I have already written and most english speaking people learn to write (regardless of which hand we use to write with.) from left to right and down. Same way, we read. For us lefties, reading and writing perhaps should have been the other way round. Anyway I am forced to operate the mouse with my off hand ( My Right hand.) and it's just that much harder to draw circles and lines.
Some of my closer friends from school have considered me to be best aritst in our small group. Not that I had continued doing art as one of my majors at High School. I just had basic knack for drawing the basic human form and copying pictures of monsters and scantily clad women out of magazines. Though I have done a cartooning, screenprinting, and airbrushing course as out of school subjects. Right now it's been ages since I have sat down and had a serious go at drawing, sketching, painting. Apart from the occasional drawing I attempt to do using Microsoft paint with my off hand.
I have to say there are some seriuosly great artists on this forum. It stands to reason as the internet is a bigger pond for me. I have world wide competition here and perhaps sometimes some of better known artists from this publication itself. I am alittle intimidated. I cant' draw Dredd or Slaine or Nemeiss as well as I would like. I gotta teach the hand what it use to know, as I am alittle rusty. It's something I wanna get back into.
I will attempt at submitting something to thisa thread by way of contribution. It's gona take me a while though.
Besides, I am having trouble uploading stuff at the moment.
The Warlock...
- Steve
Let me fix that numpty link for you...
Curses! Too slow to be condescending!
Nice Warlock.
And his little-known twin brother :)
Cheers for fixing the link.
- Steve
Heh, thanks
Not sure what went wrong with the link in the first place...
Cheers,
Steve
Very nice - and I like the mottled skin effect on the base of the neck. Great stuff from everyone, and enough to spur me on try and come up with something a little better than Dufflock in the first post... ;-)
Nemesis looks like he should be holding a pint for some reason. May be it's wishful thinking on my part...
Must be the weather influencing my drawing...
Maybe this should be a regular thing, do one character a month or something?
Cheer,
Steve
I like the character a month idea! or even per week?
Anyone willing to post mine if I send them the original? I have poor web fu...
sure, send away
Pffft! You had to do this when I have no way of uploading files to the internet *grumble grumble*
haha mail it to me!- i think you can clcik on my name to get to my hotmail
I wish I had figured out how to do this before. ( I may even redraw my sig picture this way.) Though there might be few among you that would knwo that in terms of free hand drawing this is strictly cheating.
Anyway, I want everybody to take notice of the neat lines and colour rather than the fact that it only looks superficially like Judge Dredd.
It's what I would referr to as a 'SouthParkish Dredd.'
Cheating slightly, but here's some of Bolt-01's pencils that I inked:
It's what I would referr to as a 'SouthParkish Dredd.'
And whilst trawling my Photobucket account to find that South Park Dredd, I found this languishing; Biro-Rogue.

Apologies for this, it was on my photobucket.
I've got a sketch I did at lunch today to scan tonight.
Bolt-01
Nice. But shouldn't it be "Bi-Rogue"?
These have been rotting on my hard-drive for a while...
Hmmm. Lets try that again...
...and again...
..aaand again!
Yeah I know, it's fan-bloody-tasic isn't it?
Pretty good .Wooly, although your first Dredd appears to be wearing a fetching pair of Y-fronts.
'Pretty good .Wooly, although your first Dredd appears to be wearing a fetching pair of Y-fronts...'
Heh. Not noticed that!
Cheers tho :)
Hey Woolly they're really cool!
Love the perspective on Dredd.
Is the guy in the last pic called "Ahmed"?
Ahmed the Meat-head? Yeah, that could work!
Cheers for the kind words, its appreciated.
Everything ive seen here is ace, so hats off to you all!
Just one thing, *please* all stop putting your work down! Its great!!
The Ezquerra-style dotted line is a nice touch, Byron.
I don't seem to have drawn many 2000ad characters, oddly, apart from Rogue Trooper, Johnny Alpha and Synnamon (don't ask). Should probably rectify that, being an unemployed bum and all - but in this heat, who can be bothered?
I'm not a very good tooth fan, I suppose. Love the perspective on Wolly's Dredd - forced perspective is always a bugger to get right, but when it works, it works well.
I'm confused, is this a 'post pictures of 2k characters you've drawn' thread, or a 'draw a 2k character and post it here' thread?
(And yes, they are different).
It's hot, my brain is fusing with my skull, the mice are dancing a jig across my toes and the small flesh eating pixie has decided he would like to boil my gonads in cotton and shorts...
...add to this we have the Jimbo of Darkness confusing me and distracting my grey cells...
"I'm confused, is this a 'post pictures of 2k characters you've drawn' thread, or a 'draw a 2k character and post it here' thread?"
explain yourself oh confusing armoured droid (bet you're hot in there)
Fuck here comes that one eyed anteater again, 'oy, fuck off leave the foreskin alone...
There is only one Carlsborg and he shall brook no pretenders!
LOL!
If only I was THAT mad.
This is just a temporary hitch due to an overheated arse on a leather chair, in an over heated office with only an air cooler, two plastic bottle of volvic and a cute Dranthian Pool Rider* for company.
* fuck! Mirage!
I am quite envious of the Nemesis it has baroque appeal to it. And Matt Timson thinks its good but made no reference to mine.
I think my work contrast with his in a totally opposed way. I was beginning to think you were complimenting me on my Pineapples, to which I resolved this but I thought mine had a beautiful finish.
Wooly's shadow work is better than mine and for all he says that he's not bothered about Siku's Art, his work in one or two places look very much a Siku line. Not saying he is unoriginal but I think I see technical similarities.
Always love seeing your work Coyle, But I think it could get BETTER;)because its potential is screaming out it can make several great pictures.
"Always love seeing your work Coyle, But I think it could get BETTER;)because its potential is screaming out it can make several great pictures."
It's certainly 'screaming', I'll give you that much...
Well, I've posted a picture I had already drawn, so here is a pic I drew, from memory, at lunch today.
A reminder to any writers out there that Zarjaz are looking for scripts and I'd like to draw a Mean Arena one.
This took all of ten mins and has not been tweaked at all. What would be the point.

Bolt-01
help please how do i get drawings into my message
Lots of cool pics here.
And Bolt, Zarjaz seems to take a long time to respond, but where can I find Mean Arena to read and maybe riff on?

Hah! Well I was going for most prententious rather than malicious but I had to go to work and I've just read it back now.
It's both of niether.A bit ungracious really, bebe.
Heh, and as for most pretentious...there's no way of topping that. I'm buying any sweat top or vest with one of those battalian logos on though. They're F*&%in' greart!
Er..Blow Your Whistle. Der derdedederdedihderderdeh.
Cheer up, CE- I didn't like anyone else's either. OK- Superking's Death was pretty good...
Garamin, I've posted the link to the profile for the series, but to my hooror, this series has never had a proper Reprint!
This series is due an EE in my opinion, as there is some great work there.
Bolt-01
Link: Mean Arena profile page
Mind you, 288 strip pages is a lot of EE space.
Bolt-01
This one took me awhile to do.
I'm rather pleased with it.
love the Slaine!
What I meant, dear Larf, was that I originally thought (wrongly, I now assume) we were supposed to scribble or sketch a character specifically for the purposes of this thread. If we're just posting any old pics we've done of 2k characters, then that's a totally different ball game, and I've lotsa old stuff I could post.
Flip-r - I use Photobucket (link below). Get an account, load a pic into your album, then copy the URL it gives you below the pic (the top box). Paste that into the 'Optional Image URL' box when you post a message here. Hey presto!
(But it does mean you can only post one pic per post, unless someone knows how to do more...)
Link: Here ya go...
Don't get wound up about it Jimbo, just post anything and let 'the rules' be damned!!
Jimbo, if you use the html tag option on the photobucket you can place the code anywhere in the text you enter here. example:

Then you can write some more and post another pic:

if you like. Apologies for the pics used, they were just the first things I'd got the code for to hand.
Bolt-01
Aaaah, so *thats* how you do it!
Cheers Bolt, i'll remember that.
Jimbo --
When I started the thread, I'd had it in mind that it would be pics that people drew just for the thread, but it's been cool to see all the pieces that boarders have, whether they were drawn earlier or not.
However, I really like the idea someone had further upthread of turning this into a regular thing, with a single character for everyone to try their hand at. If everyone?s up for it, I?ll start another thread with that idea later tonight, once I?ve had a chance to think of a decent (or not so decent!) prize?
Ah now I see what you mean Dark Rust bucket.
Good idea, I like that.
:-)

I'm enjoying it, I've got two pics to scan for tonight.
Bolt-01
Top idea, Amstor!
Might have a few prizes to give away myself if it takes off....
Larf - Dark Rust bucket? I'll have you know I was built by the premier technicians of the late 21st century.
Any inefficencies or cruddy bits are purely the result of economic cutbacks by devious accountants (and evil wimmin, probably - I was created by Pat Mills, after all).
Bolt - Thanks very much, wanted to know how to do that for ages!
Amstor - Themed art threads sounds like a brilliant idea! Can't wait for the Caballistics one, or the Ukko one, or the ABC warriors one, or the....etc,etc
Dark Jimbo I owe you one.
No problem - and 'cos I'm feeling so nice, here's a link that actually works! (I hope...)

here's some out of my sketch book

Here is one of Slaine, I did.
Nice Dredd, flip-r, and I like the Slaine, LRC. It's got a bit of a McMahon vibe, but I love that chunky take on Slaine - it's a refreshing change from the hypermuscled version that appeared in later Slaine strips. Cool stuff!
Nice pics there folks. Some lovely stuff.

See I've got to have a bash at Bad Co, next. Sounds fun.
Bolt-01
Done this evening! Huzzah!

(Cheers again to Bolt for teaching me this!)
You're welcome, and that is a mighty fine Slaine.
Bolt-01
I'm not game enough to do a full Slaine yet!
( Sorry, but does size matter?)
On the subject of Slaine I was wondering if anybody has what I believe to be the Glen Fabry drawn picture of Slaine leaning up against the severed head of a titan or giant with Ukko standing up on top of it. It's in colour also. I remember seeing this while leafing through some British made magazine called 'Computer + Video games' sold in Australia in a Newsagency.
It the centrefold poster ( but not that type of picture or magazine either.) and was part of the promotional thing going towards thet old text adventure game based on Slaine.
Excellent picture, though I have never had the opportunity to see it again. I doubt very much that I would still have it if I had actualley purchased the magazine back then.
Oops, almost forgot the picture.
I have that very mag somewhere - i'll scan em in when i get a spare moment
Thrillseekyr:
That shot reminds me of the Discworld animation style. Nice.
Bolt-01
Bolt-01
Surly you mean the Discworld Cartoon mini-series.
Pity, they only stopped at two books.
I was never really satified with quality of the animation. Though, I too now notice a simliarity between that and my recent world here.
I will get better though, if I keep practicing.
I oughra try doing some free hand sketching and scan them onto computer.
I not sure whom might have animated it, but I do prefer the Josh Kirby book covers.
I'ts also apity that Photobucket has shrunk my last two pictures.
The size does them no justice.
For all my drawing I dont seem to draw tooth stuff, so here is a basic scribble I found.
First time trying to post art on this forum so apologies if I fuck this up...........!
Bugger, should read directions better.......

">
Ok Ok, this time I got it......
third times the charm.
'I'ts also apity that Photobucket has shrunk my last two pictures.'
Photobucket was doing that to my pictures about a month ago, then stopped doing it.
No idea why it happened, or why it stopped, so maybe trying again later will sort it?
Not much help, i know!
-Wul
It depends on the size of the image & what your current Photobucket max image size is. AFAIK, it used to be 200k but it has since gone up to something like 1Mb. I always had a bugger of a time getting the spreads for the TPB reviews down to a decent size, so I'm glad the max size limit has been increased.
Have a fiddle with the Photobucket options and see what you can find...
Just wanted to say I love Flip's large-handed Death, Bolt's Nick Stone, Wooly's Slaine and Nerd's Dredd. Well done peeps.
As I am crap at drawing I asked the fiancee if she would draw something.... having never read a full prog in her life... I did allow her a reference book!
Now to get her to do Bad Company . . .
Oh and to read a full prog!
Here's my Russian Rogue. Have to admit, much as I like Simon Frasers work- i'm a big fan of John Burns'...
Some more of the same from me.
Done in Illustrator as part of an attempt to wean myself off using cross-hatching as means of covering up bad drawing!
Heh! Great stuff, all - though I'm particularly fond of the Burns-esque Dante.
Here's the second one I have drawn enlarged, but you might also notice that it didn't load completely from the black border cutting into it at the top.
I'm not putting anymore up until the server change over has been resolved.
Sorry for necroposting, but im dead chuffed with this!
Hey Wooly, that's grand that is, you ever tried 'strip' work?
Bolt-01 always lookin'
'Goorlam the ogre was starting to regret going to MacRoth Piercing to get his nipple done.' ;)
That's a great pic, Wooly. As always, I have huge respect for people who can do painterery type stuff.
Bah! You never show me ANY respect, Wilson!
;)
very nice! reminds me a bit of early dermot power maybe
but youve got your own , instantly recognisable style
Cheers dudes.
Johnny - Dermot Power is one of my biggest influences, so to be compared to him (albeit in style as opposed to quality!) is praise indeed!
Thankyou!!
Cool Death, Phuz!
Looks a bit
Sorry man...
:)
Excellent!
Bottle, glassssss, glassssss, bottle

In Slaine's time, Dwarf flying was a noble pastime until somebody invented kites.
That's great a Slaine painting by the way, Woolley. Very outstanding work.
You sure your not a 2000AD artist?
Seeing as this thread is still alive and kicking. Then it would be nessessary for me to submit some Art-Rage rendered painting of Balor the Fomorian leader also featured in the Slaine. These re-interpretations are more based on the stuff I have seen on Celtic mytholodgy in general rather than what I have seen in the sagas of Slaine.
Link: BALORLOOKING
Here's another formorian that I have done. I rather proud of my work , though it's stil alittle too cartooness for my likeing.
I did these just about two weeks ago, on another website ( A Slaine and Judge Dredd fansite.) requesting formorian pictures.
You may notice the other name I signed under on these pictures as I used that name on their forums as well.
Here's a more simple drawing of the head and shoulders of Slaine. Done simply in Paint.
Take it or leave it.
With drawing Slaine you walk the very thin line between actualley drawing a historically correct Celtic man of status and nobility rather than a just guy wearing makeup and gold jewelry with wildly extravagant hair.
This picture also has the two sided effect of being a guy with spikey hair or a balded headed man hitting the ceiling.
Link: Now with eyes painted
Sorry about the gap. I guess that was my fault.
The auto scroller was out of control this morning.
Heh, reminds me of latter-day Mike McMahon!
