Title: Who for Australians
Post by: KingPhone on 07 August, 2006, 12:35:15 PM
Here is a thread for other antipodeans who are watching Dr Who now and anyone else who wants to discuss new Who as we see it down in the land of Laura Bingle.

Wasn't that Girl in the Fireplace good? The plot was very Future Shockish.  The twist was a bit cheesy, but all up good stuff. Mme de P was alright (albeit not very french sounding).

I haven't seen the latest episode yet, but my father recordered it.

It did look like one of the sillier episodes to me.

I though the last three ( First three.) episodes were good.

Espiecally the reunion with Sarah and K-Nine. Pity he didn't make it though.

It would be good if some of the older Docters ( the ones that are still alive.) could make cameos also.

Girl in the Fireplace is the best one we've had so far this year i didn't really like New Earth that much just didn't reaLLY gel with me its probably my least fav of the new Who's so far(both 1st and what we've seen of 2nd season).
Madame pompi was certainly one fine looking lady but i didn't really get the Doctors attraction to her(I've never seen him gush so much over other historical hotties).  Liked the clockwork robots they certainly would'vre given me the willies when i was a littleley.
Cybermen next week tell me your not excited!!!!

...so does the Doctor start fancying Madame Pompi when she was a little girl? does that make him a pedophile???...

Thryll - In Dalek in the first new season there is an Old Cyberman head in a display case but this will be the first full appearance for them in the new Who.
Arrisarris - Ewwwww, never even thought of it that way, bad bad Dr Pedo ;)
Drunk Doctor was quite a hoot too.

Cybermen next week, yahoo! Although, due to the evil of Youtube, I've seen the first episode already.
I can see why any sensible person would find Mme P appealing, but it was a bit odd the doctor being all spellbound by her...thought he was supposed to be above that kind of thing.
Drunk doctor was indeed very funny.  The Sarah Jane Smioth episode was great. My son loved K9's saying "we are in a car" repeatedly until Mickey got the point.

I watched this last night and it was lot better than I though it would be.

Those robots  with their masks had me thinking of the movie 'V for Vendetta' I think it was called.

Lately the episodes of Dr Who are starting offer more insight about Dr Who himself.

Loved last weeks, dont care that they're not original Cybermen.  The scene at the end with them all clunking along was awsome, really got across how f/off big and heavy they are, bullets bouncing off them was good and expected.
Cant wait till this weeks, like how they haven't been previewing next weeks episode just to keep the cliff hanger working.
MOre more more!!!!!

I liked 'The idiot's lantern' but the anachronism grated with me. They go to all this trouble with old clothes, houses and cars, make The Wire look very much like the sort of thing you'd see on TV back than and then the son says

"You just don't get it"

which is very post 1980s. It rings very false.  The whole sub-plot with the fascist-pig father getting his comeuppance was pretty overdrawn. I felt quite sorry for him by the end - he's just a working guy in a strange situation, next thing he's got David Tennant poncing around his house and Billy Piper insulting his little flags and getting all pedantic on him.

(pauses for breath) anyway, otherwise it was pretty  good

DOH, had to go out to dinner saturday so this is the first new Who I've missed.  I'm sure I've got a mate somewhere with it on DVD or some such.
this week we've got "The Satan Pit"
