New Dredd figure - you thoughts...

No.... YOU thoughts!
...well the wont buy it because it looks crap seems to be winning...
looks crap. Use an Ezquerra reference for Dredd figures, you can't lose.
You missed the "I have absolutely no interest in buying a glorified Star Wars figure, as I am still bitter about my mum giving all my real ones away ten years ago" option.
I'm depressed by the number of "I'll buy it though it doesn't look that great" votes.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???
They are idiots.
So. More people will buy it even though they don't like it than people will buy it because they like it!!
I'll not be buying one simply because it's shit looking. The Reaction figures were far better.
I`ll buy the set, twice.
The curse of the collector strikes again.
They are idiots.
Yeah, you're right. I mean, where the fuck do these people get off having an opinion different than yours?
Wankers.
Erm... you mean the opinion consisting of "I don't like it, but I'll buy it anyway"?
Erm... you mean the opinion consisting of "I don't like it, but I'll buy it anyway"?
Given that there are only 4 options this one could mean:
I know that this is a prototype and the finished product will be better.
I love the idea of having a Judge Dredd action figure so I don't mind if it doesn't look perfect.
If I buy a Dredd action figure then the company might be more likely to make other characters and not just fold like ReAction figures did.
It still looks better than the Mega Heroes figures and I bought those.
I'm a collector and I buy all the Dredd merchandise that I can afford.
There are probably more interpretations but I need to go and pick up Freya from nursery so I can't type any more.
Cheers,
Wake
Of course I do.
It's their opinion- if someone wants to buy it then good luck to them, doesn't make them an idiot.
Not particularly impressed with it - the upper body & head are alright, but what can be seen of the lower body & waist/hip articulation just looks a bit ropey.
I can kinda see Rac's point here, because since it appeared it has been fairly heavily slated - which must be disheartening for the 2K crew & the folks who worked on it (assuming they even bother to read our ramblings!) That said, I don't think boarders have any obligation to say nice things about it if they really dislike it - though as always online, a dose of moderation goes a long way, especially as it's so easy to just blurt out "Christ, that's shit" ;-)
That aside, though, the "I don't like it, but I'll buy it" attitude strikes me as a bit weird. I can understand wanting to support a 2K venture - hell, I suppose I've done my bit with buying all the trades! - but I don't think I could bring myself to buy something I didn't like (though the Bison TPB came awfy close... ;-) )
Well, the Reaction Figure Dredd gets an A for effort, in my opinion, but there's still room for improvement. The scan of the new figure is so fuzzy, it's hard to make a definative opinion. That said, the new Dredd figure's chin appears to be closer to the comic books, as drawn by, Bolland, Esqerra, Robinson, than the reaction one, so thats a plus. Also anything that ushers in a new line of 2000ad related figures is alright by me and maybe we'll eventually see the fabled Law Master bike and you can bring that on, double quick!
>Yeah, you're right. I mean, where the fuck do these people get off having an opinion different than yours?
Wankers.
Well, it's my opinion that they're idiots. It's not a case of whether the opinion is different or not. I am criticising their bad aesthetic taste which just happens to be idiotic, in my opinion. ; )
As most people will attest the figure, from a licensed company, is shit. Let's here it for democracy.
Nice attitude there...
Most people, by the way..? If by that you mean a couple of dozen opinionated nerds on a comic forum on the internet, then yes, most people.
If you mean the majority of folk, normal folk, who buy the comic every week, then I suspect you're talking total fucking shite.
As I said it's my opinion, if dickheads want to buy something they don't actually like, good luck to 'em. I think they're idiots and since this poll has been cast HERE, yes HERE -not the venue of normal people in your opinion, are you one of them?- amongst the couple of dozen nerds, your words not mine, then it looks like we'll be the ones who will have our opinion collated and heard and maybe listened to.
My $0.02 -
folks can go spend their hard earned on whatever they want (within reason) I guess, but the more people who are prepared to still go buy poor merchandise despite their better judgement, just for the sake of being a completist, kinda makes me think that the manufacturers are then gonna be less and less inclined to produce anything decent. If the crap sells regardless - why bother? No incentive to raise their game therefore deliver the proper goods anytime soon.
exactly.
top looks excelent, but the legs and joints are bit off.
but if it is to be able to sit upomn a lawmaster.
then all is forgiven. if its not. then it needs work.
likely i get it anyway,i like good qulaity merchandise of dredd generally.
though i think if others could take termight replicas lead on standards, this debate would be null and void.
I was also thinking that this might just be a prototype for the "Dredd with lawmaster" version, which is going to require an odd hip joint in order to get him on a lawmaster. I have a Ghost Rider figure from the same company, Toybiz, that's at least ten years old and has a similar ball-and-socket hip joint so he can fit on his bike. Who's to say the rest of the lineup won't have more traditional hip joints?
I find it highly amusing that after years of people complaining about the lack of quality merchandise, i.e, action figures, Rebellion commission some, only for people to complain again!
I'm sure that Rebellion has fully quality passed this product and fully endorses it, so shouldn't we at least trust them on this?
As stated before, I presume this figure has been aimed at the casual action figure collector as much as the 2000ad reader and not at the whinging internet minority, who it appears are impossible to please, whatever effort is made! A case of, fucked if you do, fucked if you don't!
I'll also reiterate again, a fuzzy scan, does not a finished product make!
Tharg, my advise. Don't listen to these cynics and have a plentiful supply of these figures to insert in there retentive arses, on release!
I do find it amusing that having an opinion different to someone elses is considered to be idiotic... but somehow, grown, and in some cases middle-aged men, bemoaning the shape of the hips on a toy action figure is not...
::"middle-aged men, bemoaning the shape of the hips on a toy action figure"
Oh fuck, you're right.

I got bought the Re:Action Dredd by my brother on a birthday, and whilst we were out for a birthday nosh, some family friends had a rare old time getting him to strut his funky stuff on the dance floor (ie table), as they took one look at him (had no idea who Judge Dredd was) and decided he was some kind of gay clubber with his tight leather, somewhat camp YMCA get up.
I was only sorry I didn't have an Alpha to go with him.
:Who the hell's gonna mess with us?
:Ooh, hark at you!
etc.
---
Uhm - yeah - so as long as the new figure can be mistaken for a butch gay uniform fetishist, it's all good.

Your poor brother.
I'm buying it because it looks pretty snazzy. Plus it will make a good art reference.
At first I didn't like it so much, based on the first photo I saw.
Then I saw the more recent photo on the other thread (Yeah, I could post there, but this ones closer to hand) and it doesn't look that bad.
In fact it looks quite good, so ultimately price will dictate whether or not I buy it.
Anyone know how much it will be?
As a side note, all the Dredd toys I have ever seen are so much more accurate than the old Toadborg toy from Bucky o Hare.
Should range from £11 to £15 hopefully.
I can't find the second set of pics, can someone point them out?
I actually thought the ReAction figures were very good. They were certainly a lot closer to what I'd expect, even as a prototype the only pic I've seen looks rather ropey, ignore the joints, the physique isn't too good. Now would I have bought them at the time? I doubt it as thats expensive. Now I probably will buy it but as it's just going to stay in it's box along with my other 2000ad stuff it needs to be half decent as it's not going to get 'played-with', unlike something like a dvd boxset I could get with the same money.
For fucks sake. You all need to go and have a cup of tea or a wank or something and calm down. It's only a toy. And it looks shit. Why did they model his chin on an uncooked loaf? Why is the eagle on his shoulder lying down? Why are his elbow pads 3 times bigger than his head? I'll probably buy one though, if only out of loyalty to 2000ad. Am I a wanker for doing that? No. I'm just a 35 year old Judge Dredd fan who never got the 2000ad merchandise he wanted when he was 14.
Why hasn't someone domne a range inspied directly by the art, classic Dredds by Bolland, McCarthy, Ezquera et all. Imagine a chunky big-booted McCarthy Dredd!
I always thought they would be first choice for model Dredds instead of the second-division artists.
Yuck.
Fair go for trying, but when you see some of the amazing figures that other characters get, that just looks a bit wanky. I don't think I could have that blu-tacked on top of my monitor/around my pc......
Whats with the hips? He-man and Gi-Joe had already been created with a better pelvic area and thats from the 80's.
