Title: JEKyLL
Post by: LARF on 17 June, 2007, 09:32:11 AM
Can't believe there's not a post on this yet?

Did anyone watch it last night or watch the Rankin programme on bbc4 afterwards? I never realised that Dr Jekyll was based on a real Dr Jekyll, absolutely fascinating.

Furthermore the transformation from Jekyll to Hyde and the way they made him look so different yet the same was excellent.

I meant to watch it, but fell asleep on the couch.
Is there a repeat?

"I never realised that Dr Jekyll was based on a real Dr Jekyll, absolutely fascinating. "

Only within the context of the story (i.e. their both fictitious or is that what you meant?)

It was a great take on the Jekyll and Hide story I thought. I was a bit disappoinited that his form didn't change (at least not in a noticeable way) but in hindsight I think it could work out better this way as the characters and us viewers are sometimes surprised.

A nice start. Let's hope they keep it up.

I really enjoyed it, it felt like it exists in the same universe as 'Ultraviolet' - thought Nesbitts performance was really awful until he turned into Hyde then I kinda appreciated the wooden feel of Jackman.

Normally I find Nesbitt the most irritating actor evah. I just can't stand his "cheeky chappy" approach to every character. He ruined Rebus for me.

BUT...

I thought this was really suprisingly good. Maybe it's the patented Dr X Godzilla theory in action, but I was engrossed and thought it a really good re-invention.

I'm glad Mrs X taped (well, Sky+ 'd) it. It wouldn't have happened if Prison Break and 24 hadn't finished, but it really was worth it.

Arse, did this start last week and I've missed an episode?  I've just 'discovered' it's on.

Darn.

Yep, you missed it.
So did I, but I, uh, caught the repeat on Mininova.

yeah i like it. the book was based on a real guy but not in the sense of changing in to a monster, it was some rich guy that at night went to all the seedy and dark places and lived two lives, the nice and presentable rich aristrocat (jekylle) and the nasty dirty dark side (hyde)

Happened to catch the last couple of minutes of this tonight.  I sure hope for anyone who's been watching it that it wasn't the last episode!

No, I think theirs more to come. (Although how many more I'm not sure as British series tend to be quite short don't they?  Doctor Who and Torchwood seemed to be an exception but even those series were a lot shorter than most American series.)

I'm definitely enjoying this. I like how they include mystery into the story too, rather than just the usual werewolf-"How can I stop him" storyline you usually get with this type of show.

So... is he a clone?  Seems a decent theory, but I hope not as the cloning thing has been overdone a bit in recent years.  They said Jekyll 'died without issue', but I'm sure Hyde got up to plenty of the old rumpy pumpy in his time what with all that whoring and debauchery. Could this guy be a descendant of Hyde instead?  Or is that too simple?  As long as he doesn't have a portable transporter which sent him forward to...no wait. That's a different show. ;)

Sorry. Maybe I should have posted a spoiler warning. (Shame there isn't an edit option... as far as I can see. Never mind.)

I'm pretty sure it's six episodes long, so two more to go. I thought that too last night, that he's a descendant of Hyde and not Jekyll.
I'm really enjoying this series, I wasn't going to bother as I can't stand James Nesbitt, but he's been ok in this. This is the sort of thing the beeb should be putting on, not Holby Binmen or Kay "back of a fag packet, starring my daughter" Mellor shite.
