What do people reckon? Past his prime or just right?
Piccy:
Yeah, I do need to learn how to do that....
He's aged alright, but I dont think itll take away form it provided they dont have some young slip of a girl lusting after him or something
To post an image:
For Ford and Indy to have a remotely plausible physical age, the movie really has to be set in the 1960's - if they can come up with an interesting Cold-War setting, I may give them the benefit of the doubt (although George is way past his last warning on that account). If they try to pull a Terminator III and just buff-up Ford and get on with a 1940's setting, I may have to gouge out my eyes and puncture my eardrums to avoid being contaminated by this equine corpse flagellation. Indy III was as tired an exercise as SW III (or VI if you prefer), and look what happened when they went to the well a fourth time on that franchise...
That has cheered up my Friday no end.
Cheers.
Grinning like an idiot Tulkas.
Hadn't realized they'd actually gotten started on this movie, I thought it was still in development hell waiting for a decent script or something. A nice surprise to see they've made some headway and that picture didn't immediately convince me it's a terrible idea so that's not a bad first impression.
Well as far as I know it's set in the 50s, so maybe they'll get a happy medium out of it in terms of his age. (late 50s maybe?)
Let's hope this is the film where he loses his eye, an arm and a leg.
I have no hopes whatsoever, but the idea of a fun, adventurous romp in itself sounds good to me.
Glad there's no Sean, that was fine, but it would spoil the movie to make him part of a dad and son double act. But I'm not surprised George couldn't work that out.
...just as an experiment ive tried posting the pix myself, i took the info from the properties on the previous picture posted above, but i seem to have created a link, should i have done this from the original web page picture???...
...aha, its done both this time when i put in the same info in both boxes, so what happens when i just put the info in the bottom box???...

I recall reading that bundle of yumminess... er... brilliant actress Cate Blanchett is involved in this as well.
I hope they are doing proper stunts and not just flooding it with useless CGI spectacle.
Having said that I quite fancy seeing Indy crack his whip at a few dinosaurs - that would fit in with the vibe.
In other news, they are doing a TV series pilot for FLASH GORDON. But apparently ditching the rocket ships and warping to other worlds. Er... wouldn't that be
a) like missing out on half the idea of Flash
b) just make it Stargate SG-1 then?
Setting it in the 60s wouldn't seem right to me, it's just a bit too contemporary and not romantic enough. 1950s Cold War setting sounds about right (though the main thing is that it happens in a world where things haven't changed much.
To be honest I just want to hear him say: "It's not the mileage honey, it's the years"
Really like Indy and just seeing this brings it all back..
That shirt looks a bit too clean and just what is that on his knee???
Not sute when it's set but how you gonna get the germans into a 50's/60's senario.
Hitler clone?
I want to see lots of CGI.. can't get enough of it.
The new Flash Gordon thing sounds appalling - the only way to do justice to something as (wonderfully) aged as Flash is to do it straight, rocket ships and lion men and witch queens intact.
Otherwise, just call it something else and save on the copyright costs.
Don't forget Flash's American-made muscle-car, which he drives through the stargate each week into ever more exciting adventures!
No, sadly I'm not joking.
My favourite ever Hollywood tale is this, from Harrison's youth:
"As a kid, Harrison was very shy, sensing that he was different, not like the other kids. At school in suburban Des Plaines, just north-west of Chicago, he was bullied continually for not fitting in, not craving popularity or success. Each day, the hard kids would take the future Indiana Jones to the edge of the road where the playground sloped down, beat him up and roll him down the hill. He would never fight back. Though furious inside (an anger he would keep for years), he kept up a Gandhi-like policy of non-violence, enraging his tormentors even more."
You can just imaging young Harrison in class looking up at the clock, dreading when the bell rings and they roll him down the hill again. That's how he got that million-dollar cynical world-weary expression - he's thinking "Why are they rolling me down a hill?"
Link: "Why are they rolling me down a hill?"
How come he's wearing the same clothes for the last twenty years?
in real life or in the film? coz he seems to do that in real life.
i wonder if he'll still be the adventurer in the film or whether it'll be one of those crappy coming out of retirement things. wonder if his age'll play a part in the story. maybe they'll bring back one of the old love intrestd back.
How come he's wearing the same clothes for the last twenty years?
because he's an action film hero.
Some facts from Wikipedia:
On December 29, 2006, George Lucas confirmed that he, Spielberg and Koepp finished the script, and that Indiana Jones 4 would commence filming in 2007. The film will be set in 1957and will address Ford's age.
Filming began on June 18, 2007. The film will be shot in several locations globally including Los Angeles. An extensive chase scene uses New Haven, Connecticut as a backdrop, including portions shot downtown and in Branford and Saybrook colleges of Yale University. The chase, with Indiana Jones riding a motorcycle, will also use Yale Commons dining hall and Old Campus, and will be shot between June 28-July 07. Some shooting will take place by a waterfall.
The more I think about it, the Cold War would be the perfect background for the film since it provides the best baddies since the Nazis, there could be a good occult angle if they were hording Nazi artifacts (when will Indy be free of the Nazis?) and there's plenty of scope for globetrotting, mystery and espionage along the way with potentially world-threatening consequences.
In fairness, 1957 would be nearly 20 years on from Last Crusade, decades that included the hard years of Second World War (which Indy was surely involved in), so I suppose that date isn't too implausible for a saggier Ford (although he was getting on a bit in Crusade too). And the location shooting sounds promising... no Brody (sob) or Sala though, sigh.
Hmm, 1957.... Sputnik, Kerouac, Harold Macmillan, Eisnonhower, Civil Rights Movement and... FORTRAN!
Spielberg's put a clip up:
Link: Looks like they're having fun
That hot-rod looks very 1950's. I guess thats when its set.
That Indy website has a section on the YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES.
I only ever saw about 4 of them and they were all absolutely cracking (one in the trenches, one with a big field gun, one where he meets Albert Schweitzer and one where he gets stuck on a mountainside with his dad... actually, maybe the last one wasn't cracking but still entertaining enough).
Hive mind, if they came out on DVD (as they surely will with a new film out soon), will they be worth buying?
The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles is the single most lavish television drama I've ever seen, pretty much a new location each episode, historical detail and dozens of historical figures. Ironically, it's kind of the opposite of what George Lucas did with the Star Wars prequels - they actually leave the studio and go on location for each episode, usually a different country or city each episode. Oddly enough though it seemed to leak out on TV on Sunday afternoons when everyone's at the garden centre with no fanfare.
Wikipedia says it will be released as 22 DVDs from Christmas with 100 documentaries.
"Wikipedia says it will be released as 22 DVDs from Christmas with 100 documentaries."
George Lucas, stick it up your arse.
I liked what I saw of the young Indy stuff. A bit silly that he just happens to bump into so many famous people, but it was very interesting stuff.
It's nice setting the character in a more real world setting too, i.e. without the fantasy. Don't get me wrong, I love the fantasy of the films, love it in fact. Ironically that's why I like the real world setting of the series, as it makes the fantasy of the films all the more interesting somehow.
Does that make sense?
Yeah though it's a bit odd bumping into historic figures every week it's odder to literally save the world every week from an occult threat. Young Indianna Jones is unusual in actually being more serious and thought-provoking than the the movie it was a spin-off of. It would rather cheapen the franchise to try and come up with something for the 'prequel' that is in danger of outshining what happens in the first film.
Could be wrong here (and plainly too lazy to check my facts), but I think most of Young Indy is available in 'TV Movie' format (ie. two-parters linked into one 'film') on DVD already? Came out about the same time as the (excellent) Boxed Set of the movies.
Speaking of Young Indy, it's interesting to compare the newer pics with Harrison as he appeared in one epsiode of that series, playing a 50-year old Indy...
whose soldiers is in that clip? U.S?
I've just noticed Lucas has a characature of the Harrison in full "why are they rolling me down a hill?" mode on his t-shirt.
And that brief shot we see...it doesn't seem to matter how much time has passed, when Ford does that face it's as if he were never away. I'd virtually pay the ticket money just to see him put the hat on.
it kind of ruins the majic for me kknowing there is more than one hat

LIES!!!
"whose soldiers is in that clip? U.S?"
They are Russian agents dressed as US Marines.
Some new stills of Indiana Jones up: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/34908
Including Shia LaBeouf as Jones Jr. (Or Jones III I suppose)
Also, is it wrong that I laugh at many of the stupid names that people keep posting in the aintitcool talkback on this particular topic, such as Indiana Jones And The Damn Kids Get Off My Lawn, or Indiana Jones And The Child-Proof Viagra Bottle? Does that make me a bad person? I still love the films......
Shia LaBeouf...
I can't stand that guy... and for no real reason.. If it wasn't for the totty in Transformers I wouldn't have watched it.
He may just spoil this movie for me.
As for Ford, he looks just the same.
I admit I wasn't fond of "The Beef", he was an annoying little bollocks in I,Robot and Constantine, but I thought he was actually quite good in Transformers. So I have some hope for him in Indy IV, but having said that, in Transformers he was playing self-deprecating and geeky, which worked for him. If he goes back to being cocky again, it might not work.
Looks good!
Cool! That pic's got me all excited!
No, not in the cock way, about the movie, you filthy minded so and sos!
My boy (just turned 5) got the box set of the first 3 movies for his Birthday...and we've let him watch the first two...though, they are a bit scary. Can't wait for this new one now he's in to the films.
Ahhh WoD- is that to the greatest pleasure in life?
The sheer delight of introducing your childern to things like this is complete magic.
I know...that and playing Mario with him on the DS...great fun. Of course, watching him play (well train at this age) mini-rugby is brilliant too...he nearly flattened one of the coaches the other day...brilliant tackle...I was so proud!!
He's got good taste my boy.
Captions gentlemen please...
"I'm sure my teeth went down here somewhere..."
"I remember when this was all tombs..."
"Help me up son, my knees have locked."
"Thats a funny looking lightsabre dad"

Ooops there goes my colostomy bag...
Tenuous link here, but I've been deliberately not inflicting my Star Wars obsession on my own wee boy (1.5 years), but he seems to glom onto it through some osmotic process. He caught sight of Empire on the telly (I wasn't even in the house, honest) and was apparently captivated by Threepio (never confused!). The following week and Return was on (and I was here too), and same thing - following Goldenrod all over the screen. He calls my soft-toy Yoda by name, but that probably is my fault.
My biggest thrill so far was last week, when he specifically asked for his dinosaur book ('daddy, nine-o-sar bik, pliss"), and did a convincing roar for the T-Rex page. Such pride!
I'm with you TordelBack!
My youngest could identify almost all the jedis in the movies by name when he was 3 or 4!
Sigh Another cave with a 1000 foot drop below.
I am not getting paid enough for this shit.
Poster!
The new poster's up:
http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=21636
I want it on my wall right now!
A pox on you Lordship, just one minute too soon!
just one minute too soon!
Story of my life..!
Ba-da-bing!
I like the fact it's actually painted in the traditional manner, and very nice it is too...but it does look pretty much like it could be from any of the Indiana Jones films.
It looks good, but I always prefer this one...
That's a lovely evocative image and, as previous posters have mentioned, it's refreshing to see "proper" movie poster art making a come back, in contrast to the frankly awful photo shop shit that caters for movie art these days-step forward the Star Wars prequels DVD box art. Of course, if the films had been any better, I would have felt even more cheated.
('daddy, nine-o-sar bik, pliss"),
You're raising your son as a South African?
Cheers
Jim
You're raising your son as a South African?
What can I say, Van Owen made a big impression on me. Also, when I lift him up over my head, I'm sure I can hear someone saying "Always was a strong lad".
These young guns man they are incredible with todays media.
A friends kid, at two, can do most of the Star Wars lego stuff on XBOX and has a very teenage frustration to areas of difficulty.
I mean, his parents are like, " Where did all the articulation come from?"
so it's way old Indie and the Fonze....
A friends kid, at two, can do most of the Star Wars lego stuff on XBOX
Jeebus, I haven't even tried our lad on the X-Box yet - great idea for an evening's entertainment! He'd probably love it, seeing as can operate the multi-remote TV system to find Spongebob (who he calls "Bubby"), reset all the timer switches in the house to 3am, and do strange eldritch things with my laptop's function keys that take me several baffled minutes to remedy each time.
Feel yourself lucky for about a year now my son has been switching on my PC and logging in, deleting files, altering paramiters and the like. Sometimes I have to get my Bro in law to correct problems that arise. His latest is checking my emails and logging onto messenger, all at the grand old age of 3. I'm just waiting for the porn sites to be locked into my PC, or at least thats what I will tell the missus.
Little B****rd.
V
That's nothing! When my son was 20-week fetus, he hacked into NORAD through my Bluetooth phone and started up their Nuclear War protocols. Happily, his precocious mastery of noughts and crosses bamboozled their computers, and enabled Matthew Broderick to get the girl despite being an obvious nerd. So that was nice.
You think that's something? Just the other day one of my sperm was recruited by the Star League to fight against Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada. Did all with no help other than some kind of alien buddy, no less.
Now I am picturing the Death Star as an egg and the X wings as sperm, defying the latex clad bad guy that wanted to stop them shooting down that hole.
I will never be able to watch Star Wars again...
Now I am picturing the Death Star as an egg and the X wings as sperm
There is something I don't like about the new picture....
I do preferr the 'Temple of Doom' poster/picture.
Just compare facial expressions. There is something old and harsh in his facial expression shjown in the Crytal Skull picture that wasn't there in the original one.
There is a lot of harshness about this picture.
I'm also talking about the backdrop and some of the detail in the foreground as well.
Not really Harrison Ford's fault, but something the painter could have avoided.
BTW.....
For those you that have children that are real young and have found access to your PC.
Why don't you lock the study room?
Thryll, haven't got a study especailly as I have another one on the way very soon.

While alot of you may think that I am just being commonly weird from bring this.
I 'm just wanted to make note of the concept for thsi movie poster this old 2000AD prog cover.
As lot of Slaine fans may know the Dragons ( Picture on that Prog cover.) from Slaine's world are well known their Crystal skulls.
I just thought really. As I now know that bother thosoe two pictures look ridiculous side by side like that.
But if you take into consideration the stories behind both them and also take thsoe things in both pictures out of the context that was intende for them. You have two giant crystal skulls with a man in the foreground.
Thsi is my point!!!!
Regards THat Idaina Jones poster. I'm pretty sure that the Crystal skull in the background is not to scale and I can see that Indy is clearly not scared of it. As it is mostly, perhaps just another harmless artifact.
He's not looking at it. It may just be that he is applying the old rule about not looking at Artifacts. Remember, what happened in first film. ( I just thought of that now.)
Anyway, I always thought that Slaine's 'Tomb of Terror' had a Speilbergian vibe to it.
Link: Now this picture shows it!!!
"There is something old and harsh in his facial expression"
Could this be because Jones is now much older?
Darth Vaders facial image hovers over posters of starwars but this doesn't mean he is 100ft tall compared to other characters.
The poster is just signifying the film title.
V
Have to confess I've never really gotten the love for Indiana Jones. The first one's alright but, rather like Back to the Future and Rocky, it's one of those things everybody else of my age seems to love but I'm just not fussed about.
Having said that, I'll probably see this and - as long as the character's aged - Ford still looks like the man for the role.
Hmm, worrying developments as Frank Marshall hints that there are
aliens involved. Ah well. Still,
Cate Blanchett as a Soviet agent... mmmmm.Link: Snakeoids... whyd it have to be snakeoids?
Its good to see Karen Allen back in it as Marion Ravenwood. Always wondered what happened to her character in the other films.
V
Always wondered what happened to her character in the other films.
Film singular. Temple was set sometime between their orignal 'romance', and their fiery reunion in Raiders. But me too. As recall, they were still an item post-Raiders in the original Marvel comics series.

And, given that cast in this new movie, I reckon we can figure that they had a son together.
Of course, I knew that the crystal Skull in the poster's background isn't that big. But I was referring more to the symbolism.
Anywa, what ever happend to Short-Round.
It might have been cool to see the now matured and fully grown character return or even just cameo.
I hated that kid.
The trailer's released this Thursday.
Meanwhile, this pic has got me quite excited (not in the cock- excited about the movie).
Yes, looking forward to Thursday. I saw the poster up in the cinema for the first time the other day, and was all a-quiver.
very sexy...
Now that gets me excited in the cock.
Don't mince words Rac, tell us what you really think..... :)
Wow...
Is she some kind of sex-communist?
Her name is Irina Spalko.
Sounds a lot like Spank-o.....
Looks a bit like...
Cate Blanchett as Lulu for Nikolai Dante film? perfect!
my son is 11. this will be his first indy movie.
i am looking forward to sharing with him 1-3 after watching this.your first indy movie needs to be a big screen experience.
bit like a bond movie really.
i put my hand up and say. CANT WAIT!
er... better watch all three first before watch this one!
There's a fairly good quality bootleg of the trailer up at Aintitcool, and I won't lie, this looks old-school deadly! The music, the stunts, the HAT!
Link: You're never too old
WOw! I love the reactions of the drivers in the lorry when Indy Jones jump in. :) :)
That looks like the warehouse from the end of Raiders. I'm pretty sure it's goig to feature aliens. There was a crate thet was labelled 'Roswell'.
Och, it's like 1999 all over again - hairs on the back of me neck! Don't screw this up, Stevie-boy, or it's back to Beijing with you.
I need to go home and watch the others, right NOW!
Dammit!
I can't see any video at work!
