Just to say Life on mars is being repeated on BBC4 should anyone have missed it over the last couple of years.
Link: It's 1973, almost dinner time...
could someone explain what this is all about and why its so great. i dont watch telly, but i get dvds if i hear about something that might be my thing. i only became aware of it at the end when everyone was going crazy about the last ep.
A detective called Sam Tyler is transported back in time to the 1970s where he is accepted as being on transfer from another force.
He has no idea whether he is going mad, or is actually back in the 1970s.
If you like the first episode, you'll probably like the series. His boss, Gene Hunt is the standout star of.
That said, I'm not sure if it appeals to people who didn't grow up in the 70s, as it does play on nostalgia up to a point.

its a bit like the Sweeney.
Well I was born in 1978, so didn't really "grow up in the 70's", but sure saw enough 70's cop shows in the 80's to have fun watching Life on Mars.
someone recentluy asked, in a group situation, "oh what happened in the end i missed it", to my confusion someone else claimed to have seen it knowledgeably explained;
NON SPOILERS ( I THINK )
" oh he was in a coma and woke up "
i think they were watching a different one to me.
so is it any good? Is it good if, like me, you actually remember the 70s?
Yes, it's good - it has a great atmosphere, although if you strip away the nostalgia and the mystery of why he's there, there's not much to it, Gene Hunt gets a bit cartoonish in the second series, and Annie gets short shrift as well.
It didn't really hurt that it was running around the same time as Torchwood though, anything looked good to that pile of shit.

Ace show - well worth watching. One of the only two terrestrial shows I watched last year (or was that this year? I forget).
So was the first episode last night? If so bugger!
Shut it you slag ! sorry guv . And stop calling me guv !
Yeah - watched it last night. Very intriguing.
Can't wait for next Monday for the second episode.
Floyd, ABC is playing on Sunday nights I think they're up to the 5 episode or so, might be a bit hard to catch up on. As someone who grew up in the 80's and not 70's I like it a lot so you should like too.
Oh and dont forget New Who starts this thursday(on at same time as Lost, bastards)and is on Saturdays as well.
