Title: Cape Wrath
Post by: pauljholden on 04 July, 2007, 10:47:26 PM
Just saw this advertised on Ch 4 - any idea if it'll be any good?
Cape Wrath Website

Eerie, tense, engaging and chilling - welcome to Meadowlands.

The Brogans move to a seemingly idyllic suburb to escape something sinister in their collective past. They meet Brenda, their hyperactive and highly strung neighbour who speaks of almost nothing but the beauty of her daughter Jezebel.

They meet Jack (of all trades) Donnelly, the local handyman who feeds off people's fear of him. They meet Bernard Wintersgill, a police detective who ensures the residents remain lawful and dispenses justice as he sees fit. Keeping an eye on them all is the seemingly impenetrable 'handler' Samantha.

The Brogans very quickly realise that beyond mother Evelyn's melancholy, daughter Zoe's cold, predatory behaviour and son Mark's refusal to speak, they are not the only ones living with the repercussions of dire decisions made in the past.

Everyone in Meadowlands has something to hide and it's only a matter of time before their secrets resurface to ruin them.

Anyone watch this. You could tell it was trying to do drama like the yanks do but failing quite badly. Drip feed info on the characters and base them in a weird setting seems to have been what they were aiming for.

well i liked it.

David Morrisey is a fantastic actor and a favourite of mine (going right back to "My Summer" with Billy and Ickie)

If i had a criticism it's that the plot moved a bit too quickly for my liking - i like slow-burners that draw you into the story and the characters - but i'll definitely be tuning in again as (i guess) each characters 'crime' is eventually revealed one-by-one

thinky

p.s. the daughter zoe (who is 25 playing a 17 year old) is a complete babe. fact.

I agree about the Americanised styling of the whole thing. All that was missing from the start was the HBO logo.

I was actually surprised when they spoke with English accents (apart form the sex/fear guy- what the hell was that accent!?) as I thought it was going to be another American show.

I'll probably watch the next one just to see how it goes but so far I reckon it was just ok

let's see what develops

And yeah- the daughter, fine thing

I read somewhere it's already been on American TV under the name Meadowlands so it's been made with an eye across the pond...
I quite enjoyed it, but it could do with more Prisoner or Stepford Wives and less Hollyoaks. I'll be watching next week I think.
I love that guy who played Ian Curtis in 24 hour party people(the mysterious beardo with the knives).
The handyman had the strangest accent I've heard in some time, I couldn't tell whether he was from Hackney, Trinidad or Jerusalem :)
