Post by: mogzilla on 10 July, 2007, 09:59:05 PM
anyone seen the new animated hellboy film "blood and iron"? i was wondering which you prefer the sword of storms or this one? i have to say i prefer the new one though sword had the heads sequence in it,blood and iron captures that hellboy feel, spooky.

Yeah, Blood and Iron is the best of the two. That's not to say the first hasn't got it's moments. SoS is better on further viewings. I watched it with the commentary recently, and it's quite entertaining.

Blood & Iron seemed like the more solid offering to me as well, though they both have their charm. I'm looking forwards to them making more of these.

Of course, I would have prefered a more Mignolaesque style...

2000Ad and Crisis artist Duncan Fegredo is doing a blinding job on the Hellboy comic books right now. It's somehow both sufficiently like Mignolas artwork and at the same time sufficiently not like mignolas artwork to work.

couldn't agree more, thinking about it kev walker has a slight mignola stylism to his art and as to the animation, did you see the spawn animated series? that style and mood would have been perfect for the "proper" hellboy. One slight quibble over the animated style,my hellboy figure fell over and nearly killed my dog,his legs are too damn skinny and fragile.good old araldite rapide!

Over on BPRD Guy Davis does an awesome job as well - despite having an art style that's superficially about as far from Mignolas as you can get.

"couldn't agree more, thinking about it kev walker has a slight mignola stylism to his art"

Mr Walker has actually done a Hellboy short that looked rather fab. I need to make the effort to get back into a comic shop if Duncan Fegredo is doing some Hellboys, however, since that sounds entirely awesome.

Cheers!

jim!don't leave it there! what was it ? AAAANNNDDDD,i only just realised the other day mignola did the cover to the dredd/batman crossover "vendetta(i think)in gotham" the one where dredd goes and picks a fight with bats to stop him being killed.
