Title: who areyou????
Post by: mogzilla on 02 August, 2007, 01:41:05 PM
Since i got my icon, iwas wondering how you chose yours and why?

I chose hellboy mainly 'cos i love the books and the character is A BIT like me,in the fact he's a manual worker, loves his job but would rather be at home doing fun stuff and my favourite word of all time is "crap".

is art a spiky haired smoking cool dude? is peter really a wolf? is trout a...perhaps not! anyway over to you lot. Enlighten me!!

Ha! My fishiness is a mystery only solved by buying me alcohol.
But it's a common misconception that my icon is me. It's not even a trout.

It's the great of the judges - Deputy Chief Judge Fish!
Hail him, for he is mighty.

I'm a fat, bald, jaundiced Satan worshiper.

Either that or it was the Dredd story running when I joined up.

Or its in reference to an old teenage nickname.

It's also my e-mail.

I can never remember which ones true.

Mine's El Superbeasto from Rob Zombie's Spookshow International comics. Was just the best thing I had saved on my pc at the time that would fit into a dinky box and not look too shat. And I really really really like Rob Zombie.

It is my name. As simple as that.   There is no shortage of  2000ad characters that i could have chosen as an icon . Theres an awful lot of Judge Dredd names and icons here.  Thats to be expected.

Post by: WoD on 02 August, 2007, 05:15:00 PM
WoD - abbreviated from my surname from days of yore when you could only put 3 initials in arcade macines...and it just stuck and became my nickname from then on.

The icon is Gorath from Jon and Gorath, a comic strip that I do with Bolt-01, and was drawn up by Bolt-01 for me.  [J&G can be seen in several comics including the 'Lost Property' books and you could have a look for them at the FutureQuake webpage, where you could also purchase FutureQuake, MangaQuake and Something Wicked...if you wanted...and now I'll stop the pimping!]

Cover of my second favourite album, and one of my favourite pieces of artwork ever.

Of course, you need to own the abum on vinyl to really appreciate just how lovely it is. Frankly, you could frame the damn thing ...

However, the implication that I am a sad old goth is entirely fair.

That has just ruined it for me.I have never tried to enlarge this icon to try and see what it is.   To me it looks like  Tharg as Santa Claus [or Tharger Christmas ] with the red yellow and green. That probably sounds ridiculous.

I drew my ICON using Paint.

Weel, it 's better than the self-portait I did before it, if anybody remembers.

This portrait however.

It's what I beleive I look like.

Though, my hair isn't that dark ( As problems with the black lines bleeding.) and I have this recurring chin beard and five oclock shadow in real life.

The name Thryllseekyr is just my way of paying tribute to the Magazine.

BTW, I didn't know Bad Andy was really Simon Pegg. Though I guess the photo of Simon Pegg should of made that obivious.

My one is easy.
It's the Commando Dagger insignia you stitch on your arm after you finish the 30 miler and get the coveted green beret. I didn't think a green beret would look right on a small icon.

Post by: Funt Solo on 04 August, 2007, 08:54:07 PM
My icon is off a Megazine cover (I think) - it's Jack Point's t-shirt - used because The Simping Detective is one of the top three dredd-world spin-off characters ever.  (Name started life as 'fate amenable to change', from Excession by Iain M Banks, then became 'funt amenable to change' after Sin Dex got good again, and one of the people here suggested that it should be funt solo - and lo!)

The 30 miler is the final Commando Test.
Before this you do a 9 mile speed march, an endurance course (water tunnels, long smelly tunnels, pete's pool=stinky bog, 4 mile race back to Lympstone and then on the range for a shoot), Tarzan Assault Course (arial stuff starts with a death slide and ends by climbing a 30ft wall).
All this is done in the final week after all the other training.
The 30 miler is a run over the moors in as fast a time as your section can manage and it has to be done within 8 hours or quicker.
By the way all these are done whilst wearing fighting order with added kit on the 30 miler including a (military) radio + spare batteries, food, safety kit, spare kit, dossbags, etc...
All in all it is a great week of fun.........not to be missed.
At the end of this Yomp you get your Green Beret and you all stand around for your course photo. The people who fail are not wearing them. By the way I am in the front row!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I chose mine because it's a reasonable picture of me.  Since I have no corporeal existence, I might as well look good.

At one hundred and fifty one years of age, I'm definitely too old for cartoon icons.

Just commenting on the Cosh's Icon now enlarged.

The person in the photo shrunken down to icon size always had always given me the impression of a dangerous desperate person.

I once though this picture may have been a enraged sporting fan than the sportmans this turns out to be. As that person is revealed to be raising his arms in triumph. The facial expression has me thinking otherwise.

I also know that a Cosh is sand bag weapon used to knock people unconsious.

My picture was the only Zenith one I could find (if I have got it to work), because I couldn't be bothered to get another.  My haircut is curretnly quite similar to his haircut in books 2 and 3, so they would have been ideal choiuces, but alas.

My comes from the fact I had forgotten what the password, or even name of my account, from a few years back, so I made a new one.  The Steve Coogan sitcom 'Saxondale' had just happened to have begun the night before.

King Trout I quite like Vladimir Karpets, but only for his name.

Ah yes. The sub-editor's favourite cyclist.

Karpets floored by drug revelations!

Karpets laid six times in steamy night of passion!

Did you know there's another old pro called Pascal Lino? What a night it would be if they went out on the tiles together.

ThryllSeeker: I once thought this picture may have been a enraged sporting fan than the sportmans this turns out to be. As that person is revealed to be raising his arms in triumph. The facial expression has me thinking otherwise.

To be fair, that photo is of Pantani's victory on Alpe d'Huez in 1997. He's just ridden that bike up 13.8 kilometres of mountain with an average gradient of 8.1%. After already riding about 100km to get to the bottom. And he's done it in 37 and a half minutes, so he probably was a bit desperate by then!

"I found a copy of "The Nephilim " at the car boot last sunday."

And that is my very favourite-est album of all time, as I think we have established in many interminable music threads over the years on this board.

Unfairly confined to the ghetto of "Gothic" categorization, 'The Nephilim' is, I will say again, one of the most underrated albums in the entire rock genre.

Put this album on without the prejudice of a genre stereotype, and I guarantee that from the pounding, hypnotic opening drums, to the epic, mesmerizing album closer of 'Last Exit', you won't regret hearing this.

With one important exception! Rip the bugger to iTunes (or media management software of choice) and then discard the track 'Shiva' ...

This track is a hang-over from the early days of CDs, when record companies used to stick "bonus" tracks onto CD albums to make them more appealing than the vinyl/tape equivalents. Shiva is a B-side that, on its own, is neither particularly good or bad.

However, its position on the album borders on an act of vandalism ... the album hammers through three fast pacers, and then shouldpause for breath with the splendidly mournful (and inappropriately titled) 'Celebrate', before powering into 'Love Under Will'. The inclusion of Shiva before 'Celebrate' puts two slow-tempo tracks one after the other and all but breaks the back of the album.

Rant over. Back to the crypt for me ...

Cheers

I havent taken in all of that post yet i have cleaned the record so i will have a listen after a gap of  a number of years.I have no prejudices of genre stereotypes in music and never have done as it misses the point of being a music lover. The sleeve especially the calligraphy inside the gatefold is beautiful and the sleeve has a 4ad records look to it.

COSH, it would also be easy to assume he trying to get away from the car that looks like it's chasing him.

In retropsect, I thought he really was a extra from 'Romper-Stomper'

He's got that look of menace which was very atypical among the main characters in that film.
