this is sounding better and better.

I want warp drive now Scotty !
I cannae do that captain ! She is overheating and she cannae teke nae maurer !
They also have their Sulu, it's the guy who played Harold in Harold and Kumar (which I happily have not seen)
But this is all shaping up very nicely, now we just need the right Kirk and McCoy.....
Is there anyone out there wooden enough to play Kirk?
Heres a radical thought, why not hire a Scotsman to play Scotty instead of some actor doing an offensively bad comedy accent. Or failing that Groundskeeper Willy.
Hoots Mon, ra dylathium christuls cannae tak any merr captan!
Yeah, and get a Vulcan for Spock - I've had it up to here with american actors playing aliens - where are the proper alien races, eh?. Proper Vulcan's can't even get into the actors union. Those alienists.
-pj
Yer man Sylar is playing Spock.
Erm... Wasnt Doohan Canadian?
Too right. Greenface might have been acceptable in the 60's, but we've moved on. There are so few good leading roles for alien actors these days, it's a shame to fill them with humes in paint and CGI monstrosities. As long as aliens aren't allowed play themselves, crass stereotypes will persist. Jar Jar alone set back the cause of alien acceptance in Holywood by decades.
Aren't these actors a bit old to be playing Kirk and chums in the academy (if it is the academy years).
These guys are about the age Shatner was when he was making the first series.
Anyways, Simon Pegg in anything is good news. He's turning into a right wee hollywood star.
No chance of a Spaced special anytime soon then.
Course Leanord Nimoy has since distanced himself from the whole 'Alienist' issue - and is pretty ashamed of that 'greenface' period of his life. The book 'I AM NOT SPOCK' really was a searing indictment of that time in Hollywood where aliens were really only considered good enough for background artists roles.
The other problem though, really unmentioned in Nimoy's book was that Aliens were always cast as negative in light of the glowingly perfect humans, unless, of course, the alien was subservient to the human as Spock was.
I think it's a period we can all agree was just wrong, and it's surprising that it's still seen as a stigma to be an alien in Hollywood.
Never mind - there will always be a role for the alien as the hero's sidekick, with their funny alien way of talking and their special alien way of helping the hero relax and look cool.
It's the only explanation for Chris Tucker's entire career.
Eric Bana as the villain... sounds good!
Just the slight problem that Simon Pegg never plays anything other than Simon Pegg. This could be his first acting role.
Not sure I agree with you - sure, there's a certain Peggyness to each of his roles, but Pegg played noticbly types of character in each of his roles (Pegg in spaced is NOT the same Pegg in Hot Fuzz)
- pj
He played a yank in Band of Brothers.
And Pegg/Angel in Hot Fuzz is a brilliantly realised character - simultaneously loathesome and yet utterly sympathetic. It's a better suggestion that the last one I heard, the Doctor off of SG: Atlantis.
So... your suggestions for Kirk & McCoy....
Kirk is an actor I've never heard of.
Link: Here you go.
I always liked the suggestion of Gary Sinise for McCoy, but since it seems they're aiming for such a younger cast, I doubt that's gonna happen.
They seem to be going for geek friendly casting, what with Simon Pegg and Sylar doing Spock. Panderers! :)
I've got a hardcore Trekkie mate who has washed his hands of this film affair, but he loves Spaced. Maybe this news might change his mind a bit?
I had heard James McAvoy was going to be Scotty.
I had heard that James McAvoy was doing it as well. It was printed in an Irish newspaper that he had signed on. Pity. He would've been great. Did a couple of days on atonement with him last year, great actor and really nice guy.
What was that noise? It sounded like a name being dropped!
And very heavily too :-) They cut me lines from the film so I may as well get something out of it! (apart from the long spent money of course!)
Also... what Enterprise designs are they going for... traditional original series or rebooted Enterprise series.
It ticked me off when they re did the design for Enterprise so I'm all for the 60's version.
I want bright red banisters and flashing lights with no point!
"It ticked me off when they re-did the design for Enterprise so I'm all for the 60's version."
I'm no big Trek fan, but I remember the episode of one of the spin-offs, where the aged Scotty was taken to a 'hologram' version of the old enterprise deck. Persoanlly I felt a bit embarresssed for him, and was surprised the crew didn't snicker.
Surely what trekkies should hope for is something which is a re-design but captures the spirit of the original, and perhaps even blurs your view of the original one with this.
There is the potential for Scotty to have put on a fake accent once his career got going and he's actually from Gloucester! ;)
Slightly off the topic.
I watched TNGNemesis tonight and I thought Data could have done with some serious botoxing.
Perhaps they will go for model ships instead of CGI and keep the string showing, for nostalgia sake of course..........and a Blue alien with a pink tongue and red lips.........
V
Bring back that rock that appeared in every episode.
If that creepy alien doesn't show up at the end of the credits someone is going to die.
Wee Hughie, anyone?
Yeah, Simon Pegg did an okay Scots accent in that.
The whole film needed botox! Paper thin knock-off of Wrath Of Khan, that it was.
I'm getting more optimistic about this "prequel" flick as time goes on, especially as TNG seems to of dated worse than TOS-in my eyes at least.
Did you notice they used exactly the same footage from First Contact where the disc runs aground?
They just altered the material on their Cinema 4D things. snnf.
I don't look forward to the prequel unless its TOS training academy!(jke)
Did you notice they used exactly the same footage from First Contact where the disc runs aground?
Really? Assuming you mean Generations, it was different ship, a different bridge and a different bridge crew, and it was in space rather than a pine forest, and it was crashing into another ship. That's rather a lot of work to alter.
Oh, BTW I'm not saying it wasn't shit. It was. Better than Insurrection, which was putrid beyond imagining, but still shit.
Oh sweet cheeses, not again, italics OFF.
Oh come on. It must 've been a piece of piss to replace the cgi with different maps.
i know what you mean, krombasher, but when you have to alter everything, isn't it simpler to just start from scratch?
Italics really off this time...
Nope, that didn't work...
Arrgh!
Yay!
